1 Prime Minister Narendra Modi said- Center will soon constitute a committee to consider the demand of Madiga community for classification of Scheduled Caste category.

Prime Minister  Narendra Modi  said that the central government will soon form a committee which   will adopt all possible methods for the empowerment of the Madiga community . He said this   in the context of the Madiga community’s demand for categorizing the Scheduled Castes . The Prime Minister   was speaking at a rally of Madiga Reservation Porata Committee . The Madiga community  is one of the largest components of the Scheduled Castes in the Telugu states  , and demands classification as a Scheduled Caste.

 The song ‘  Abandonment in Millets’ based on Sri Anna  has been nominated for the prestigious Grammy Award for  Music  . The song  features Prime Minister Narendra Modi  and highlights the government’s efforts to promote the benefits of grains and its nutritional value. This song  also mentions the year 2023 being declared as the International Year of Food by the United Nations  . This song has   been composed by singer and lyricist Falguni Shah  and her husband singer  Gaurav . The song also contains excerpts from the speech given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the inauguration of the Global Sri Lankan Conference in New Delhi in March this year. This song was released in June this year. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization had declared 2023 as the International Year of Grain on India’s initiative. Srianna includes many coarse grains including millet, jowar, ragi which are considered beneficial for health.

3 Winter session of Parliament starts from December 4

 As per the announcement of  the Central Government , the winter session of Parliament  will begin from December 4, 2023 . This   will also be  the first plenary session to be held in the new Parliament House .  A five-day special session was held in September 2023 , during which the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha formally announced that they would hold their meetings in the new building. There is no fixed parliamentary calendar in India. By convention (i.e. not provided for by the Constitution),  Parliament meets for three sessions a year  . The longest, the Budget session (First Session) begins in late January and ends by late April or the first week of May. There is a provision for recess in the session so that parliamentary committees can discuss budgetary proposals. The second session is the three-week monsoon session, which usually begins in July and ends in August. The third session is winter session.

4 Three new judges of the Supreme Court appointed

With  the appointment of three new judges   of  the Supreme Court , its judicial strength  has reached the sanctioned strength of 34, which is significant considering the pendency of cases as  the number of pending cases on the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) dashboard  has risen to a high of 80,000. Dilip Chauhan  , Deputy Commissioner in the Office of the Mayor of  New York  in  the US ,  has   praised the decision of the New York office to declare Diwali as a public holiday for schools for the first time. Shri Chouhan said that this decision is the result of years of efforts of the Indian diaspora and the Indian community in America. He also said that the Indian community has worked hard for this. New York City Mayor Eric Adams had declared a holiday for Diwali in June itself.

8 Supreme Court order on firecrackers and pollution

Recently,  the Supreme Court  reinstated  its instructions to reduce  air and noise pollution caused by firecrackers . The court emphasized that its orders are binding on all states and continuous efforts should be made to reduce pollution not only during festivals but throughout the year. It underlined the importance of Diwali celebrations, highlighting that happiness should not compromise the well-being of the environment. 9 QS Asia University Rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds

Recently, the  QS Asia University RankingsAsia 2024  has been released   by  global higher education think-tank Quacquarelli Symonds , in which  India has been included in a comprehensive list of  a total of 856 universities in Asia. , in which 148 universities  have been includedThe QS World University Rankings is released annually by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). This ranking evaluates the performance and quality of universities around the world. The methodology considers indicators such as academic reputation, faculty-student ratio, employer reputation, sustainability, employment outcomes, international research networks, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio. Under this, ranking is provided on the basis of subject, region, student city, business school and sustainability. Peking University (China)  tops  the list  , followed by the University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong) and National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. IIT Bombay  has   retained its top ranking in India and is ranked 40th in Asia. Seven Indian institutions feature in Asia’s top 100, of which five are Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), along with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and Delhi University.

10 REC to provide financial assistance of Rs 10 crore to Alimco for distribution of aids and assistive devices to over 5,000 Divyangjan

REC Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm  of  REC Limited REC Foundation   has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoA) with Artificial Limb Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) . Under this, REC  will provide assistance of Rs 10 crore for a project of  ” Distribution of Aids and Assistive Devices to Persons with Disabilities ” at 25 locations in the country. The project is expected to benefit more than 5,000 people from underprivileged sections of the society. The objective of this project is to empower persons with disabilities, rebuild their self-confidence and improve their functional abilities.

11 Rear Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar takes command of the Eastern Fleet

Rear Admiral Rajesh  Dhankhar   command of the Eastern Fleet, the Sword Arm of the Eastern Naval Command,  from  Rear Admiral Gurcharan Singh  on  10 November 2023 . On this occasion, Change of Guard was organized during a traditional ceremony at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam. Rear Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 July 1990 and is an expert in navigation and administrative direction. Flag Officer Rajesh Dhankar is an alumnus of the prestigious naval academy, the Defense Services Staff College, and has completed his Higher Command Course in Japan.

13. Sun exposure at work is a major factor in skin cancer deaths: Report

A significant and growing burden of non-melanoma skin cancer  is affecting outdoor workers,  with the World Health Organization (WHO)  and the International Labor Organization reporting that  approximately one-third of deaths from non-melanoma skin cancer are caused by exposure to sunlight. I have to work  . solar ultraviolet radiation  has been identified as the third largest work-related risk factor contributing to cancer deaths  globally  . These estimates have been published in the Environment International Journal. In 2019, approximately 1.6 billion people of working age (15 years and older) were exposed to solar ultraviolet radiation while working outdoors. This is 28% of all persons of working age. Tragically, that same year, approximately 19,000 people in 183 countries lost their lives to non-melanoma skin cancer caused by working outside in the sun. Of these, 65% were men.

14 State of Food and Agriculture Report released

Total hidden cost  of  India’s agri-food systems nearly $1.1 trillion  have reached nearly $1.1 trillion, making it the third-largest contributor in the world after China and the United States, according to the   Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The agriculture situation report revealed. The report assessing 154 countries was released on November 6, 2023. Hidden costs in agri-food systems involve a variety of factors, including:

  1. Environmental costs: These include costs associated with greenhouse gas emissions, nitrogen emissions, water use, and land-use change.
  2. Health costs: There are hidden health costs that result from lost productivity due to unhealthy dietary patterns.
  3. Social costs: These costs are associated with poverty and productivity loss associated with undernutrition among agri-food workers.

15 In Archery, Dheeraj Bommadevara secured quota for Paris Olympics by winning silver medal in the Asian Continental Qualifier Tournament in Bangkok.

Dheeraj Boma Devra  won  a silver medal  at  the Asian Continental Qualification Tournament  in  Bangkok  to give  India  its first Paris Olympics quota in archery . Boma Devra was the only Indian in the race after experienced archer  Tarundeep Rai  was eliminated in the last eight and the 22-year-old archer did not disappoint. In this championship, the two countries that reached the finals in men’s and women’s category would get individual quotas.

16 National Education Day: 11 November

National Education Day  is celebrated  on  11 November  on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad  . This day is being celebrated since 2008. The Ministry of Human Resource Development had declared September 11, 2008 as National Education Day to commemorate the birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, remembering his contribution to the field of education in India. Since then, 11 November is celebrated as National Education Day without any holiday.

Every year,  World Science Day for Peace and Development  is  observed on 10 November  to ensure that citizens are well informed about the developments in science. This day was declared in 2001 and is being celebrated by the United Nations since 2002. Goal 17 of the SDGs aims to enhance North-South, South-South and tri-regional cooperation through the development of science and technology.

 Well-known  Telugu film  actor  Chandramohan passed away in Hyderabad  . He was 80 years old and had been ill for some time. Shri Chandramohan worked in more than nine hundred films, out of which he played roles in more than one hundred and fifty films in many languages.
