Inaugurating projects worth over eight thousand crore rupees in Chennai , Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the farmers in Tamil Nadu not only for following water conservation methods but also for record food production throughout history. Shri Modi inaugurated the first phase expansion of Chennai Metro Rail. This phase of the metro rail has been completed at a cost of three thousand seven hundred seventy crore rupees. The Prime Minister flagged off passenger services of Metro Rail from Washermanpet to Wimco Nagar. The nine-decimal-five-km stretch of metro rail will connect North Chennai to the airport and the Central Railway Station. Chennai Beach and AttipattuInaugurated the fourth railway line of 22 km between. This railway line, constructed at a cost of Rs 293 crore forty lakhs, will provide additional tracks for Thiruvallur districts. This will help reduce vehicular congestion at Chennai port. Shri Modi also inaugurated the railway electrification of single line section at Villupuram – Cuddalore – Mayiladuthurai – Thanjavur and Mayiladuthurai-Thiruvarur . Completed at a cost of Rs 423 crore, the electrification of this 228 km route will allow free flow of traffic between Chennai Egmore and Kanyakumari without the need to change the traction. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the expansion, renovation and modernization of the important anicut canal system for irrigation in the delta districts . This will increase the water holding capacity of this canal. In modernization of this canalIt will cost two thousand six hundred and forty crore rupees . Mr. Modi has IIT Also laid the foundation stone of the Discovery Complex in Madras . The complex is proposed near Tayyur near Chennai.
