These medicines are now available in the market for four rare diseases – Tyrosinemia Type-1, Gaucher’s Disease, Wilson’s Disease and Dravet-Lennox Gastaut Syndrome. NITI Aayog’s health member Dr VK Paul said in New Delhi that currently there are eight medicines for these diseases, out of which four are available in the market. The remaining four are in the process of permission. He told that Indian manufacturers are making these medicines. Tyrosinemia type-1 is characterized by jaundice, worsening fever and liver cancer, the drug Nitisinone has been developed for its treatment. Earlier this medicine was imported. Depending on the body weight of the child, Rs 2 crore 20 lakh had to be spent every year on this medicine. Now this expenditure will reduce to Rs 2.5 lakh. The drug Eliglustat has been developed for the treatment of Gaucher’s disease. Due to this disease, the patient’s liver gets enlarged and he starts feeling tired. Wilson’s disease causes RBC hemolysis. Indigenous medicine Triantin has been developed for its treatment. Cannabidiol has been developed for the treatment of Dravet-Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Its solution is given through mouth. Earlier, all the medicines available for these rare diseases had to be imported and the treatment was very expensive. A rare disease is a condition that affects very few people. In any country at a time only six to eight percent of the population suffers from such diseases. According to the Health Ministry, there will be about ten crore such patients in India and about 80 percent of these diseases are genetic.

SEBI has also allowed non-profit organizations to disclose past social impact reports in fund raising documents as per the current rules but they must also disclose information about the number of beneficiaries, cost per beneficiary and administrative expenses. SEBI Board has also given permission to start Small and Medium Real Estate Investment Trusts. Of these, the trust will have a minimum asset value of at least Rs 50 crore compared to the current minimum asset value of Rs 500 crore.
