1.India’s first liquid-mirror telescope in Uttarakhand

Recently the Devasthal Observatory complex owned by Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital in Uttarakhand has launched the International Liquid-Mirror Telescope (ILMT).is established. It has become the world’s first liquid-mirror telescope (LMT) to be authorized for astronomy and the first of its kind to be operational anywhere in the world. Asteroids, supernovas, space debris and all other celestial bodies will be observed using ILMT from an altitude of 2,450 meters in the Himalayas. The first built telescopes either tracked satellites or were deployed for military purposes. ILMT will be the third telescope facility to be built at Devasthal. Devasthal is one of the original places in the world for getting astronomical observations. Devasthal Optical Telescope (DOT) and Devasthal Fast Optical Telescope (DFOT) are the other two telescope facilities at Devasthal. Full scale scientific operation of ILMT will be started in October 2022. It will work with India’s largest operating Devasthal Optical Telescope (DOT). Countries involved in the development of ILMT are India, Belgium,

2.ISRO chairman inaugurates new spacecraft manufacturing facility

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman Dr S Somanath inaugurated the spacecraft manufacturing unit of Anantha Technologies at Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) Aerospace Park . The new state-of-the-art spacecraft manufacturing facility can conduct the assembly and testing of up to four large spacecraft simultaneously. This is a first of its kind facility in India, Since its inception in 1992, Anant Technologies has contributed to the manufacturing of 89 satellites and 69 launch vehicles built/launched by ISRO.

3.Giving a new look to the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, its second phase was started – Tourism Secretary

The Ministry of Tourism has formulated a National Policy with the objective of sustainable development of the tourism sector and inculcating a sense of responsibility among tourists. The Ministry organized a National Summit in association with Joint Environment Program and Responsible Tourism Society of India (RTSOI ) in New Delhi . Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Arvind Singh said that the Ministry of Tourism had launched the Swadesh Darshan scheme with an aim to provide better experience to the tourists and so far 76 projects have been approved. He said that now giving a new look to the Swadesh Darshan scheme, its second phase has been started. The scheme will encourage the adoption of principles of sustainable tourism including environmental, socio-cultural and economic sustainability.

9.MoU signed for establishment of Indian Air Force Heritage Center in Chandigarh

Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, Shri Banwarilal Purohit and Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal V.R. Chowdhary attended the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Union Territory of Chandigarh and the Indian Air Force for the establishment of the Indian Air Force Heritage Center in Chandigarh. Artifacts, simulators and interactive boards to highlight various aspects of the Indian Air Force will be available at this heritage center. The center will also showcase the important role played by the military in various wars and the assistance provided for humanitarian aid and disaster relief. The joint project of the Union Territory of Chandigarh Administration and the Indian Air Force is planned to be completed by October 2022.

11.POSOCO signs MoU with IMD for better power grid management

National Grid Operator POSOCO India Meteorological Department (IMD )signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Under this, both sides have agreed that the weather information provided by the IMD will be used for the purpose of better management and analysis of the Indian power system on behalf of power system operators across India. The MoU was signed by Shri SR Narasimhan, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of POSOCO and Dr. Mrityunjay Mohapatra, Director General (DG) of IMD at NRLDC, POSOCO. Under this MoU, IMD will provide the current weather information at hourly or lesser intervals. It will provide weather forecast of temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction and rainfall for the next 36 hours for the identified stations. Apart from this, it will also provide snow forecast for the route of important transmission lines passing through hilly states and hilly areas. There itself, It will provide meteorological forecasts at the locations of renewable energy plants. Earlier the final MoU between POSOCO and IMD was signed on May 18, 2015. Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO) is a wholly owned Schedule A Enterprise of the Government of India under the Ministry of Power.
