10 Japan becomes the first country to launch an electromagnetic railgun from an offshore vessel

The Japanese Marine Force  has   successfully tested a medium-caliber maritime electromagnetic railgun from  an offshore platform, establishing itself as a leader in  maritime railgun technology . On October 17, the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), in cooperation with the Acquisition Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA), a division of the Japanese Ministry of Defense, successfully tested a medium-caliber maritime electromagnetic railgun from an offshore platform. This is the first time that a country has succeeded in launching a railgun from an offshore platform. Typically, railguns are mounted on ships, but due to Japan’s desire to employ this technology on both land and sea, this testing has become an unprecedented advancement in the field.
