1 4th Asian Para Games ends in Hangzhou China; Indian contingent finishes with best-ever 111 medals

 India gave a historic performance in  the 4th Asian Para Games  in Hangzhou , China   and finished  fifth with a total of 111 medalsIndia  won 29 gold, 31 silver and 51 bronze  medals. Earlier, India had given its best performance  in the 3rd Para Asian Games   in   Indonesia in the year 2018  by winning 72 medals. Indian para athletes   won four more medals than the record of 107 medals won by India at the Hangzhou Asian Games held from September 23 to October 8. India won maximum 55 medals out of total 111 in athletics. Badminton players made the second largest contribution with 21 medals, including four gold. Eight medals were won in chess and seven in archery, while shooting won six medals. Host China topped the medal table  by winning a total of 521 medals including 214 gold, 167 silver and 140 bronze medals  . Iran got second place . She won 44 gold, 46 silver and 41 bronze medals for a total of 131 medals. Japan won a total of 150 medals including 42 gold and finished third. South Korea stood fourth by winning a total of 103 medals including 30 gold, 33 silver and 40 bronze medals.

Minister of State for Rural Development, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution  Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti  inaugurated  the popular Saras Mela  showcasing   the best crafts by   rural SHG women in Gurugram . This is the second edition of SARAS Aajeevika Mela held in Gurugram, where over 800 SHG women from across the country are showcasing their handicrafts and handloom products along with regional cuisines. Saras Mela organized by the Ministry of Rural Development  and  National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR)  is an important initiative to support livelihood enhancement support schemes.

3. India remained absent in voting on Jordan’s draft resolution in the United Nations General Assembly

India  on Friday  abstained from voting  on  a draft resolution of Jordan  in  the United Nations General Assembly . The resolution   called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza, on humanitarian grounds. However, there   was no mention of terrorist group Hamas . India’s Deputy Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the  United Nations Yojana Patel  said in the United Nations General Assembly that the terrorist attacks in Israel on October 7 were shocking and condemnable. Demanding the immediate and unconditional release of the hostages, he said terrorism is a wrong ideology and has no borders, nationality or race. He stressed that the world should not accept justification for terrorist activities. He said that we should put aside differences and show unity and adopt a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism.

6 Indian tech experts get place in UN’s AI advisory body

Eminent technology experts  from  India   have been named to  the new  AI advisory body announced by the UN Secretary General . This AI advisory body has been  announced by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres  on 26 October 2023. This institution   will support the efforts of the international community to control Artificial Intelligence . The High Level Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Body on AI announced by the UN Chief includes experts from government, private sector, research firms, civil society and academia. The advisory body includes India’s tech experts  Amandeep Singh Gill,  co-founder of  iSPIRT FoundationSharad Sharma  and  Nazneen Rajni ,  principal researcher at  Hugging Face, India,  as members.

8 Rajasthan launches ‘iStart Talent Connect Portal’ to boost employment opportunities

Government  of Rajasthan  launched “ iStart Talent Connect Portal ”  under iStart Rajasthan  , a flagship initiative of the Government of Rajasthan in collaboration with  Jaipur  based startup  HairFox . The portal  was launched during Bhamashah Techno Hub, Jaipur , Rajasthan. The portal was developed to support job providers and job seekers with a user-friendly platform. The portal will allow companies to hire potential talent and allow them to post job opening details and connect with job seekers. 9 ADB approves US$175 million loan to upgrade roads in Madhya Pradesh

The Asian Development Bank (ADB)  has approved a loan of US$ 175 million  for  the India: Madhya Pradesh Road Network to Enhance Connectivity and Resilience Project ‘. The project aims  to upgrade approximately  500 km of state highways and major district roads in Madhya Pradesh (MP)  to standard two-lane facility  . The project was initially proposed by ADB in September 2023. The project will build better, safer and more climate-resilient roads to connect rural areas to growth centers and industrial corridors in MP. The project will also include climate and disaster-resilient designs, innovative road safety elements and features that will protect the elderly, women, children and And will meet the needs of people with disabilities.

10 UP government sets up URIDA to implement CM Grids scheme

The Urban Development Department of  the Government of Uttar Pradesh  has set up   an  Urban Road Infrastructure Development Agency (URIDA)  , which will be responsible for implementing the Chief Minister Green Road Infrastructure Development Scheme (Urban) (CM Grids Scheme)  on the ground. In October 2023, the UP Cabinet approved the Rs 500 crore  CM Grids scheme to build international standards roads in all cities. URIDA office will be set up in the premises of Directorate of Local Bodies, Lucknow, UP. A General Body and an Executive Committee have also been established under URIDA to monitor the activities of CM Grids (Urban). The General Body will be chaired by the Chief Secretary (CS) and the Additional CS or Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department will be the Vice-Chairman.

 According to  global research firm Statista , India  has  ranked  third  worldwide in   the number of financial technology (Fintech) unicorns ( 17 Fintech unicorns ). The United States  is at the top with 134 fintech unicorns, and  the United Kingdom  is at second place with 27 fintech unicorns. The United States and the United Kingdom continue to dominate the region, ranking first and second in terms of both quantity and overall value, respectively.

12 Election Commission has provided the facility of voting through postal ballot to senior citizens and disabled people.

The Election Commission  has  provided the facility  to senior citizens aged 80 years and above  and  people with 40 percent disability   to vote from home or through postal ballot . The Commission has also given this facility  to absentee voters  as an option. Absentee voters   include persons deployed in essential services, senior citizens above 80 years of age and the disabled. An absentee voter will have to apply to the polling officer to use the postal ballot. This application should reach the concerned officer within five days from the issue of election notification. For postal ballot, two election officers along with a videographer and security personnel will go to the house of the concerned voter and complete the voting process with complete secrecy. The Election Commission has asked the Chief Electoral Officers of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana to provide proper information to the general public regarding postal voting and make proper arrangements.

14 RBI issued rules regarding credit bureau, penalty of Rs 100 per day if complaint is not resolved within 30 days.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)  has   informed  lenders, financial institutions and credit bureaus that they will have to resolve complaints lodged by customers within 30 days  or  face a fine of ₹100 per day  to ensure that Customers can get immediate resolution of their complaints related to their credit information. Additionally, RBI has directed CICs to compensate complainants if they fail to resolve complaints within 30 calendar days, despite receiving updated credit information from the CI within 21 calendar days. This compensation framework attempts to hold CIC accountable for delays in resolving issues related to credit information.

He said the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical events have disrupted supply chains, leading to rising commodity prices and accelerating global inflation. G7 is an intergovernmental forum that includes seven important countries of the world. The G7 accounts for more than half of global network wealth, 30-43 percent of global GDP and 10 percent of the world’s population. India is among the select countries that the G7 has invited to this meeting of trade ministers in Osaka.
