Nepalese officials are bracing for a “traffic jam” at Mount Everest this season due to a surge in the number of climbers eyeing to conquer the world’s tallest peak.

This time, there would be around 400 climbers, who will embark on the journey to scale the 8,848 metre-high Mount Everest from mid-May, according to the Department of Tourism.

3.SC collegium clears 51 names for appointment as HC judges :-

The Supreme Court collegium has recommended 51 names for appointment as judges in 10 high courts in the country.

The collegium has recommended the names for the high courts of Bombay, Punjab and Haryana, Patna, Hyderabad (for the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh), Delhi and Chhattisgarh.

4.Air India plans stricter framework to tackle unruly fliers :-

Air India plans to provide more autonomy to its managers at airports under a stricter framework being prepared to deal with unruly fliers.

Since the incident of Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad assaulting an Air India staffer last month, the national carrier as well as the government have been exploring ways to bolster the existing mechanism to rein in unruly passengers.

5.A new push towards Old City in Mosul :-

Iraqi forces launched a new attack on Islamic State in Mosul’s Old City on Sunday, military officials said, trying to break the stalemate in attempts to seize the militants’ last stronghold.

Mosul, Iraq’s second biggest city, was captured by the Sunni Muslim fighters in 2014, but government forces have retaken much of it during a six-month operation.

6.Last known survivor of 19th century dies at 117 :-

Emma Morano, at 117 the world’s oldest person who is also believed to have been the last surviving person born in the 1800s, died on Saturday at her home in northern Italy, her physician said.

7.BJP releases MCD poll manifesto, promises no new tax if voted to power :-

With an eye on victory in the MCD polls for the third consecutive time, the BJP on Sunday released its ‘Sankalp Patra’ (manifesto), promising not to levy any new municipal tax and work for a Delhi “as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi”.

8.AIMPLB rejects SC suggestion for out-of-court settlement of Ayodhya issue :-

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) today rejected the Supreme Court’s suggestion for an out-of-court settlement of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute and said that only a verdict by the apex court will be acceptable to it.

9.Indian Railways’ draft policy aims at boosting tourism :-

The Indian Railways (IR) plans to introduce dedicated train services for domestic and international tourists, catering to customers at all income levels.

The proposal is part of the draft tourism policy which IR is bringing out for the first time in a bid to increase private partnership in running tourist trains

10.Spike in home attacks, J&K policemen told to stay away for now :-

With militants continuing to target the houses of policemen in the Valley — two more attacks were reported Saturday night — J&K Police have asked their men to stop visiting their homes “for the next few months”, especially in south Kashmir. “Police personnel, especially from south Kashmir, are advised to exercise extreme caution while visiting their homes. They should preferably avoid visiting their homes for the next few months,” states a communication sent to all officers from the J&K DGP’s office Sunday.
