Bank of Baroda (BoB)  has   projected  India’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate to be around 6.75-6.8% for  FY 2024-25  , with a growth  rate of 6.8% for FY24. have put. The IMF raised India’s economic growth forecast for the current financial year to 6.7 percent, which is 40 basis points higher than the agency’s October 2023 estimate. The World Bank has projected growth of 6.3 percent in FY 2024 and 6.4 percent in FY 25, citing the role of strong growth in domestic demand, increased spending on infrastructure along with investment by the private sector. RBI has estimated India’s growth rate to be 7 percent in fiscal year 2024.

2 Amendments in electricity rules, there will be separate electricity connection for charging electric vehicles.

 Consumers can now  get separate electricity connections to charge their electric vehicles . The time period for getting a new electricity connection has also been reduced as per the amended Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules. Under the new rules, the time limit has been reduced from seven days to three days in metropolitan areas, from fifteen days to seven days in other municipal corporation areas and from thirty days to fifteen days in rural areas. According to the power ministry, in cases where consumers complain about meter readings not corresponding to their actual electricity consumption, distribution license holders will now have to install an additional meter within five days from the date of receipt of the complaint.

3 Financial incentives approved for armed forces personnel who won medals in  Asian Games

Defense Minister  Rajnath Singh  has approved financial incentives for armed forces personnel who won medals  in  the 19th Asian Games and 4th Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China  last year  . According to the Defense Ministry, for the Asian and Asian Para Games,  gold medal winners  will be given a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh each, silver medal winners Rs 15 lakh each and bronze medal winners Rs 10 lakh each. These include players who won 80 medals in the Asian Games and seven medals in the Asian Para Games. The ministry has said that this financial incentive, sanctioned for the first time to the armed forces personnel, will motivate them to perform better in the Paris Olympic Games to be held this year.

4 Three new criminal laws will become effective from July 1 this year

The government has said that  the Indian Civil Defense Code 2023, Indian Judicial Code 2023 and Indian Evidence Act 2023  will come into force from July 1st  . The Home Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard. These three bills were passed in Parliament in December last year. These laws will replace the Indian Penal Code 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 and the Indian Evidence Act 1872.

The Philippines   has become the first Asian country  to ratify a convention  to eliminate violence and harassment in the workplace, the International Labor Organization (ILO)  said on Friday  . The Philippines deposited the instrument of ratification of the Violence and Torture Convention 2019 (No. 190) on Tuesday with ILO Deputy Director-General Celeste Drake, the ILO said, making it the 38th country in the world and the first Asian country to ratify Convention No. 190. became.

6 Assam Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registration Act: 1935 repealed

The Assam government has decided to repeal the Assam Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registration Act 1935   in the cabinet meeting  . Assam Tourism Minister  Jayant Malla Barua  said that till now 94 Muslim registrars were registering Muslim marriages and divorces in the state on the basis of this Act. The Assam government will now give a lump sum compensation of Rs 2 lakh to these registrars for their rehabilitation. Shri Barua said that after this, Muslim marriage and divorce cannot be registered through this Act.

7. Attukal Pongal festival celebrated in Kerala

The festival of Attukal Pongal  is being celebrated  in  Thiruvananthapuram  , the capital of  Kerala . On this occasion, a large number of women gather and perform religious rituals. In 2009, women  made it to the Guinness Book of World Records  for the largest religious event in a single day. At that time 25 lakh women participated in this ritual.

8 India’s first Gati Shakti Research Chair established at Indian Institute of Management Shillong.

Union Minister of Shipping, Ports & Waterways and AYUSH,  Shri Sarbananda Sonowal  signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Shipping, Ports & Waterways  and  the Indian Institute of Management (IIM)   for setting up   India’s first ‘Gati Shakti Research Chair’. Took part in the function organized for this. This Chair provides high quality academic research on multimodal logistics with special emphasis on the North-East region: building knowledge on multimodal logistics development strategies and practice in the North-East region, knowledge for logistics capacity building in the region. And will lead as a facilitator of innovation.

9 Giant Anaconda Discovered in the Amazon Rainforest

In February 2024,  scientists  discovered the existence of  a giant  anaconda snake  hidden in the heart of the Amazon rainforest .  It is the world’s largest anaconda snake ever discovered  . It is actually a  Northern Green Anaconda  . This giant anaconda was previously unknown to the scientific community.  It was discovered by renowned TV wildlife presenter, Professor Freek Vonk  , during a daring expedition led by  National Geographic . This snake is 26 feet long and weighs 200 kg. The snake’s head is as big as a human head. The body is as wide as a car tyre. Scientists are claiming that this Northern Green Anaconda is the largest and heaviest snake in the world.

Coast guard ships   of  India, Sri Lanka and Maldives  are participating in the trilateral friendship exercise being held off Male . The 16th edition of this exercise   will run from 22 to 25 February. This year, Bangladesh  is participating as an observer in order to address the increasing challenges in the maritime sector  . From the Indian side,  ICGS Samarth, ICGS Abhinav and ICG Dornier  have reached Male in this biennial exercise. SLNS is participating in Samudra exercise from Sri Lankan side. Indian Coast Guard Additional Director General S Parmesh is in Male for this exercise.

11 A Tunisian court sentenced former President Moncef Marzouqi to eight years in prison.

A Tunisian  court has  found former President Moncef Marzouki  guilty of inciting disorder and sentenced him to   eight years in prison . Mr Marzouki is in France and was not present in court at the hearing, according to media reports. He is the first democratically elected head of state since the Arab Spring revolution in 2011.

12 Women’s IPL League series begins

The second edition  of  the Women’s Premier League Cricket  began. In the first match,  defending champion  Mumbai Indians  defeated   Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium   in  Bengaluru . A total of 22 matches will be played between five teams in this competition. The eliminator match of the league will be played on March 15 and the final match on March 17 in Delhi.
