1 PVSM, AVSM, NM Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi takes command of Indian Navy as 26th Chief of Naval Staff

PVSM, AVSM, NM  Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi has assumed command of the Indian Navy as the 26th Chief of the Naval Staff   on April 30, 2024  . He  succeeds Admiral R Hari Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC  , who retires after an illustrious career in the Indian Navy. Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi is an alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa and National Defense Academy – Khadakwasla. He was commissioned into the executive branch of the Indian Navy on July 1, 1985. He is a communications and electronic warfare expert.

Chhattisgarh  ‘s environmental activist and   convenor of  Chhattisgarh Bachao Andolan Alok Shukla  has   been selected for the 2024 Goldman Environment Award . The Goldman Environment Prize,  also known as the Green Nobel  , is awarded annually to grassroots environmental champions around the world. The area is rich in coal and in 2010 the government auctioned two coal blocks to private companies for coal mining. 3 Justice Dinesh Kumar takes charge as presiding officer of SAT

Justice (Retd) Dinesh Kumar  took charge as the Presiding Officer  of  the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT)  on 29 April 2024  . The Government of India appointed Justice Dinesh Kumar for a term of four years. Before assuming charge as the presiding officer of SAT, Justice Dinesh Kumar was the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court. He retired from the post in February 2024. The appointment of a presiding officer to the SAT comes four months after Justice Tarun Agarwal retired in December 2023. Justice (retd) Dinesh Kumar along with Dheeraj Bhatnagar also took charge as technical members of the tribunal. They are appointed for a term of four years or till they attain the age of 67 years, whichever is earlier. Dheeraj Bhatnagar had retired from the post of Principal Chief Income Tax Commissioner of Delhi. The other member of the three-member set is Meera Swarup.

4 Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport will be the world’s largest airport

Dubai , known for its futuristic and innovative approach, has recently  launched a ground-breaking airport project to create  the world’s largest capacity airport upon completion. This was announced  by the Ruler of Dubai  Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum . The government   has approved the design of new passenger terminals at the upcoming Al Maktoum International Airport . Sheikh Mohammed has an ambitious vision to establish an entire city around the airport in Dubai South. This newly established city will serve not only as an airport, but also as the world’s airport, its port, its urban center and a new global hub. The Al Maktoum International Airport project with an estimated cost of AED 128 billion (approximately $34.85 billion or approximately Rs 2.9 lakh crore) is a strategic initiative of Dubai Aviation Corporation.

6 Krishna Ella of Bharat Biotech becomes the new president of IVMA

Bharat Biotech  co-founder  Krishna Ella  was   appointed president of the Indian Vaccine Manufacturers Association (IVMA) for a  two-year term from April 2024 to 2026  . Krishna Ella has assumed this charge replacing Adar C Poonawala. Krishna Ella aims to strengthen collaboration between vaccine manufacturers, researchers as well as policy makers to accelerate vaccine development and improve production. The Indian Vaccine Manufacturers Association (IVMA), is taking various steps aimed at supporting developing countries’ access to affordable vaccines.

7 IAF and Indian Navy induct Rampage missile to enhance strike capabilities

Rampage missiles  that   can dodge  air defense systems have been inducted into the fleet of the Indian Air Force and Navy  . Supersonic or hypersonic Rampage is capable of destroying targets up to 250 kilometers away. Defense sources said the Air Force has equipped Sukhoi-30 MKI and MiG-29, Jaguar fighter aircraft with Rampage missiles. The Navy has also added missiles to its fleet for MiG-29 naval fighter aircraft. The firepower capability of Indian fighter aircraft has further increased with the inclusion of air-to-ground Rampage missiles.  This missile can hit a longer distance than  the Spice-2000 used in the Balakot air strike in 2019.   The Rampage missile, known as  the High-Speed ​​Low Drag-Mark 2 Missile,  has been developed by Israel .

9 IREDA gets prestigious ‘Navratna’ status from the government

According to a recent filing with the government stock exchanges,  the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) , a public sector undertaking, has been granted the prestigious ‘ Navratna ‘ status by the government. This prestigious title takes the total number of Navratna PSEs (Public Sector Undertakings) in India to 17. 13 Deloitte India’s Economic Outlook: FY24 and FY25 GDP Growth Predictions

Deloitte India  has revised  its GDP growth forecasts for FY24 and FY25  with a significant increase in estimates . Consultancy  estimates   strong GDP growth of 7.6-7.8% for FY24 , up from previous estimate of 6.9-7.2%  . Looking to FY25, Deloitte expects GDP to expand by 6.6%, driven by strong economic activity fueled by rising consumption expenditure.

14 Rohit Sharma to captain Indian team for 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup
