1. President Draupadi Murmu inaugurates Garden Festival at Rashtrapati Bhavan

President Draupadi Murmu inaugurated the Garden Festival at Rashtrapati Bhavan . This garden will be open for general public from 31st January to 26th March except every Monday . Visitors will be able to see 12 unique species of tulips in bloom at this garden, along with many other attractions . This time this garden will be open for about two months. The Mughal Garden in Rashtrapati Bhavan will now be known as Amrit Udyan . As part of the Amrit Utsav of Independence being celebrated on the occasion of 75 years of independence, the President has declared this garden of Rashtrapati Bhavan as Amrit Udyan .has been named.

2. Beating the Retreat organized at Delhi’s historic Vijay Chowk to conclude Republic Day celebrations

The Beating the Retreat ceremony concluded at the historic Vijay Chowk in New Delhi . It marks the end of the four-day long Republic Day celebrations. President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Draupadi Murmu , Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar , Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and other dignitaries attended the function. Indian tunes based on classical ragas were played at the function. Music bands of the Army, Navy, Air Force and State Police and Central Armed Police Forces played 29 tunes.

3. United Nations General Assembly President Saba Korosi arrives in New Delhi on a three-day visit

President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly Saba Korosi has reached New Delhi on a three-day visit to India . This is his first bilateral visit to any country after assuming office in September last year. During the visit, Mr. Korosi, Foreign Minister Dr. S.K. Will discuss major multilateral and regional issues of mutual interest with Jaishankar .

4. Delhi Metro partners with Airtel Payment Bank for the convenience of passengers

Delhi Metro has partnered with Airtel Payment Bank for the convenience of passengers . Metro smart card top-up (recharge) can now also be done through Airtel Payments Bank. Airtel Payments Bank is the only multi-segment fintech company in the country operating at a large scale with a banking license. This new initiative by Delhi Metro and Airtel Payments Bank is taking digital transaction services to everyone through Digital India.

5. Canada to commercialize world’s first photonic-based quantum computer

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced a new federal investment to build and commercialize the world’s first photonic-based , fault-tolerant quantum computer . Toronto – based Canadian quantum computing company Xanadu Quantum Technologies Inc. has received a C$40 million ($32 million) investment. will help develop quantum computers, which will have the potential to provide world-leading capabilities to help solve complex data problems and could be used in diverse fields such as finance, transportation, environmental modeling and health.

6. M. Yeoh becomes the first Asian to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Actress

Michelle Yeoh became the first Asian to receive a Best Actress Oscar nomination in January 2023 for her film ” The Everything Everywhere All at Once ” . Of Malaysian origin, Michelle Yeoh has also won a Golden Globe Award in the Best Actress category for her performance in the film ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’. He was also nominated for the Gotham Independent Film Awards 2022.

7. Govt to hand over 1,000 sites to private sector under monument scheme

Under the Smarak Mitra scheme announced by the Ministry of Culture in January 2023 , the government will hand over 1,000 monuments to the private sector for their maintenance. The Ministry of Tourism has transferred this scheme to the Ministry of Culture . The government has set a target of handing over 500 sites under the revamped Smarak Mitra scheme by the end of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on 15 August 2023 .

8. The United Nations has projected India’s GDP to be 5.8 percent in 2023.

The United Nations recently projected that India’s gross domestic product (GDP) could contract at 5.8 per cent in FY2023 as high interest rates and a global economic slowdown put pressure on investment and exports. However, the United Nations expects the country’s economic growth to remain “strong” while the outlook for other South Asian countries is “more challenging”.

9. Indian Railways launches ‘Ideal Train Profile’

Indian Railways has introduced ‘ Ideal Train Profile ‘ to maximize capacity utilization and income generation in reserved Mail Express trains by regularly analyzing the movement of demand in each train . This module, developed by the Center for Railway Information System (CRIS) , the in-house software arm of the Railways , is capable of reducing the waiting list by 5 to 6 per cent .

10. Toyota names Koji Sato as new CEO

Akio Toyoda will step down from his role as CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) and will assume the role of the company’s president. Koji Sato , currently president of Lexus and Gazoo Racing , will meanwhile be elevated to become CEO of Toyota.

11. India has been elected as the Vice-Chair of the 12th session of FAO’s Inter-Governmental Technical Working Group (ITWG) on Animal Genetic Resources (AGR) for Food and Agriculture.

India has been appointed as the Vice-Chair in the 12th session of the Inter-Governmental Technical Working Group (ITWG) on Animal Genetic Resources (AGR) held recently.He was selected as and represented the Asia and Pacific region. It was organized in Rome during January 18-20, 2023. Dr. B. N. Tripathi, Deputy Director General (Animal Science) and National Coordinator, ICAR, chaired the session and also acted as the ambassador.United Nations, Food and Agriculture Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for agricultural production, forestry and agriculture. And studies the research topic related to agricultural marketing. World Food Day is celebrated every year on 16 October to mark the anniversary of the establishment of FAO in 1945. It is one of the United Nations food aid organizations based in Rome (Italy). Its partner organizations are the World Food Program and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

12. RBI approves the appointment of Prabdev Singh as the new CEO of JPMorgan Chase

India’s Central Bank has approved JPMorgan Chase & Co to appoint Prabdev Singh as the lender’s chief executive officer in the country . The Reserve Bank of India last week approved a three-year term for Prabdev Singh.

13. India’s women’s under-19 cricket team won the T-Twenty World Cup title

India’s women’s under-19 cricket team has won the T-Twenty World Cup title. India defeated England by 7 wickets in the final in South Africa . In response to the target of 69 runs, India scored 69 runs in 3 wickets in 14 overs. Trisha Gongadi scored 24 and captain Shafali Verma scored 15 runs. Soumya Tiwari scored 24 not out. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI ) has announced a cash prize of Rs 5 crore to the Indian women’s team for winning the ICC Under-19 Women’s Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa .

14. NMDC Limited ropes in world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen as its brand ambassador

Hyderabad based Navaratna mining company PSU – NMDC Limited has signed an MoU to rope in world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen as its brand ambassador. The company said that Nikhat Zareen represents strength, courage, agility and national pride. The company said that by choosing Zareen as its brand ambassador, it is being a part of her journey for the 2024 Olympics. The company is supporting them for their training and preparation for the Olympics.

15. Special mobile app launched for Khelo India Youth Games 2022

Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs has launched a special mobile application for Khelo India Youth Games 2022 . Through this app, participating athletes, coaches, support staff and officials of all participating states can get complete information about the Games. The ministry has said that this is the first time that an app has been created specifically for the Khelo India Youth Games. The app has a login facility through which any athlete can check whether his verified documents have been uploaded or not. This app will ensure more transparency for athletes in the registration process. In addition, it also has a chat box that will provide quick answers to athletes’ questions.

16. Germany becomes Hockey World Champion for the third time

Germany has won the Hockey World Cup 2023 title. The team defeated Belgium in a penalty shootout in the final played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar . The two teams were tied at 3–3 after 60 minutes, but Germany won the shootout 5–4. Before the final, a third place match was played between Netherlands and Australia. The Netherlands won the bronze medal by winning the match 3–1 . The German team has become the world champion for the third time. At the same time, Belgium could not defend its title. Germany won the trophy for the first time in 2002. The team has now won the title for the third time in 2023 after successfully defending its title in 2006. Germany was the runner-up in 2010.

17. Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus won the women’s singles title of Australian Open

Sabalenka registered this victory by defeating Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final. This is the first singles Grand Slam title of Aryana Sabalenka .

18. Serbia’s Novak Djokovic won the men’s singles title of Australian Open tennis

Novak Djokovic of Serbia has won the Men’s Singles title in Australian Open Tennis . In the final, Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, 7-6. In the year 2021, Djokovic also won the title by defeating Sittispas in the final of the French Open. Both players were face to face for the 13th time and Djokovic won for the 11th time. With this win, Djokovic has also become the world’s top singles player in the rankings.

19. New Zealand to introduce Debbie H. Medal to honor women cricketers

New Zealand Cricket announced the introduction of the Debbie Hockley Medal to honor an outstanding female cricketer . Cricketer Debbie Hockley played 118 ODIs and 19 Tests for New Zealand from 1979 to 2000. Hockley was the fourth woman to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2013. New Zealand presented the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for the outstanding male cricketer of the year.

20. Asif becomes first Nepalese cricketer to win ICC Spirit of Cricket

Nepal ‘s wicket-keeper Asif Sheikh has been named as the recipient of the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award 2022 for his decision not to run out Ireland ‘s Andy McBrine while attempting a run . Asif has thus become the first player from Nepal to win the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award. The award is given every year by the ICC to recognize a player or team that upholds the spirit of the game.

21. Iron Man of India Sabir Ali passed away at the age of 67

Sabir Ali , the ‘ Iron Man of India ‘ who won the decathlon gold at the 1981 Asian Athletics Championships in Tokyo , passed away. He was 67 years old. Ali, who retired from Railways, won the title with 7,253 points in the Japanese capital beating Japan’s Nobuya Saito (7,078) and China’s Xue Qilin (7,074). He also won two silver medals in the South Asian Association Games held in Kathmandu and Dhaka. Ali won bronze and silver at the World Railway Meet in 1981 and 1985, and was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1981 .

22. Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das dies after being shot

Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das died during treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was allegedly shot at by a Police Assistant Inspector of Police on duty during an event at Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda district . The attacker was immediately arrested.
