1.SC to take up wealth case against Sasikala, others tomorrow :-

i)The Supreme Court is likely to deliver the much-awaited verdict in the disproportionate assets case against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala and two others on Tuesday.

ii)The matter is posted at Court No. 6 at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

 

 

  1. 5.3 lakh taxpayers explain cash deposits :-

i)Over 5.27 lakh out of a total 18 lakh taxpayers, who have been sent digital queries by the income tax department over large cash deposits made in scrapped high-value currency notes, have responded to the income tax department with explanations about such deposits.

ii)These responses were filed on an online portal within a fortnight of its launch.

 

 

3.India thrashes Bangladesh by 208 runs :-

i)Indian bowlers showed tremendous perseverance on an unresponsive pitch to crush Bangladesh by 208 runs in the one—off Test and stretch the team’s unbeaten streak to 19 matches.

 

 

4.U.S. Navy’s 100 warships to be repaired at Gujarat’s Reliance shipyard:-

i)Anil Ambani group’s Reliance Defence and Engineering has inked a major contract with the American Navy for repair and alteration services for its warships fleet of 100 vessels belonging to the Seventh Fleet — the largest forward deployed fleet operating in the region.

 

 

5.AP image of Turkish assassin wins World Press Photo award :- 

i)Associated Press photographer Burhan Ozbilici won the 2017 World Press Photo competition Monday, with jurors and colleagues lauding his courage and composure in capturing his image of a gun—wielding off—duty Turkish policeman standing over the body of Russia’s ambassador, whom he had just fatally shot.

 

 

6.Pakistan court bans ‘un-Islamic’ Valentine’s Day celebrations :-

i)A Pakistani High Court on Monday banned Valentine’s Day celebrations across the country and its promotion on social media after accepting a petition which argued that it was ‘un-Islamic.’

 

 

7.MHA appoints ‘consultants’ to manage its social media accounts :-

i)A key member associated with the BJP Information Technology (IT) cell was appointed by Ministry of Home Affairs as a “consultant” to effectively handle its social media accounts.

ii)Navrang S.B. has been the part of BJP’s office modernisation committee. He was part of a key BJP team during the 2014 general elections.

 

 

8.Admission to MBA course: HC upholds stipulation :-

i)The Kerala High Court on Monday upheld the order of the Admission Supervisory Committee for Professional Colleges that the Management Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by All India Management Association shall not be accepted for MBA admissions after May, 2016.

 

 

9.Chabahar Port expected to open in a month: Afghan Consul General :-

i)Chabahar port in Iran, in which India has major investments, is expected to open in a month.

ii)Afghanistan Consul General said the port will provide impetus to trade between India and Afghanistan.

iii)It will also provide access to Afghanistan and central Asian countries by-passing Pakistan.

 

 

10.No proposal to levy service tax on healthcare, says government :-

i)The government has made it clear that there is no proposal in 2017-18 Budget to levy 5 per cent service tax on healthcare services.

ii)The proposal to levy service tax of 5 per cent on all healthcare services was mooted in 2011-12 Budget, but was dropped after stiff opposition.

 

 

11.Trump administration taking a fresh look at F16 sale to India: Lockheed :-

i)US is taking a fresh look at Lockheed’s proposal to have a F-16 manufacturing base in India.

ii)Lockheed, which is one of the top global manufacturers of fighter jets ockheed opened its India subsidiary in 2008.

 

 

12.Audi launches diesel variant of A4 sedan priced Rs 40 lakh :-

i)German luxury carmaker Audi on Monday launched the diesel variant of its A4 sedan priced at Rs 40.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

 

 

13.Paytm rival BHIM app comes to iPhones; tops chart on debut :-

i)National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has said that Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM), the platform for making easy and quick payments, is available on Apple app store for download and use.

ii)The BHIM app on iOS platform is equipped with features such as pay to Aadhaar number, customer redressal mechanism with drop down menu, NPCI said in a statement .
