NHAI organized a one day stakeholder consultation workshop on Toll based Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) in India . The workshop was organized with the objective of taking inputs and suggestions from various industry experts and stakeholders on various aspects of GNSS based toll system. This workshop is based on GNSS technology which will help in strategizing and preparing the future roadmap for free-flow toll system in India. In the proposed GNSS technology-based toll system, the NH area will be fenced and will have virtual toll points .Will be included. Whenever a vehicle fitted with GNSS OBU passes through this virtual toll point, the distance traveled will be calculated on the basis of satellite signal from multiple clusters like NAVIC, GPS etc and the applicable charges will be calculated by the Central GNSS software system and the OBU will be deducted from the bank account of the connected users. NHAI is chaired by Smt. 10.National Mission for Clean Ganga signs agreement for development of sewage treatment plants for Agra worth about Rs 583 crore

Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) for Agra based Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) between National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) , Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and M/s Vishwaraj Environment Pvt Ltd (VEPL )A tripartite concession agreement was signed at the NMCG office on 25 August 2022 for the development of The contract has been awarded at a total cost of Rs.582.84 crore. NMCG has approved the project for construction of Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) with a total capacity of 177.6 MLD to reduce pollution in Yamuna river from basin-approach. It will also include other works like developing Interception and Diversion (I&D) structures, laying I&D network, Sewage Pumping Stations including operation and maintenance for 15 years, etc. The project aims to take care of the existing sewerage problems in the city of Agra that pollute the Yamuna River. On implementation of the project, untreated sewage will not be released into Yamuna river from Agra city which will reduce pollution in the river.

11.Rhino poaching rate in Africa to drop to 2.3% in 2021

A recent report states that the rate of rhinoceros in Africa will decrease to 2.3% in the year 2021 .which was 3.9% in the year 2018. At least 2,707 rhinos were poached in Africa between 2018 and 2021, including the critically endangered black rhinoceros and the near-critical white rhinoceros. The report was compiled by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Species Survival Commission (SSC), the African and Asian Rhino Expert Group (AfRSG) and TRAFFIC (TRAFFIC). Botswana, Chad, Eswatini, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The rate of rhinoceros in Africa has fallen from 5.3% of the total population in 2015 to 2.3% in 2021. The Kruger National Park accounts for 90% of all cases in South Africa affecting mainly white rhinos. South Africa killed 394 rhinos due to poaching in the year 2020.
