Hindustan Aeronautics Limited  has  handed over two Dornier-228 aircraft to the Guyana Army  . The President of Guyana, Dr. Irfan Ali, said in a social media post that the Dornier-228 aircraft arrived at Cheddi Jagan International Airport yesterday evening, escorted by two Boeing C-17 Globemaster military transport aircraft.

2 Shefali Sharan becomes Principal Director General of Press Information Bureau

Senior Indian Information Service  officer  Shefali Sharan  took   charge as Principal Director General of Press Information Bureau . Ms Sharan, a 1990 batch officer, took charge of the post after the retirement of Manish Desai. Ms. Sharan has also worked in the Election Commission and the Finance Ministry.

3 Tripura Matabari Pera and Pachra received GI tag

Tripura  Chief Minister announced that  two traditional items of the state ,  Matabari Pera  and  Pachra  , have been awarded  the Geographical Indication (GI) tag  , marking an important milestone for local artisans and weavers.  Matabari Pera, a dairy-based sweet  served as prasad at  the Tripurasundari temple,  and  Pachara, a hand-woven cloth used by indigenous communities,  have been granted the coveted GI tag. The GI tag ensures legal protection against unauthorized copying or misuse of the product and also protects its authenticity and preserves the cultural heritage associated with it. This recognition also facilitates market access and promotion domestically and internationally, while promoting economic opportunities for the local communities involved in its production. Tripura’s iconic Queen Pineapple was earlier awarded the GI tag along with 13 other products from the North East, highlighting the diverse and unique offerings of the region.

The appointment of Saudi Ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil has sparked outrage among human rights groups, given the huge disparity between the state’s actions to promote gender equality and the commission’s mandate.

6 SEBI launches a new and more user-friendly version of its grievance redressal system – SCORES 2.0

Securities and Exchange Board of India-SEBI  has launched  a new and more user-friendly version of   its  grievance redressal system – SCORES 2.0 . According to an official press release, the new version of SCORE will make the process more efficient through auto-routing, auto-escalation, monitoring and reduction in timelines. According to SEBI, in SCORES 2.0 the time limit for redressal of complaints has been reduced to 21 days. Moreover, there will be two levels of review. The first level of review will be conducted by the ‘designated body’ and if the investor is dissatisfied, SEBI will conduct a second review. The market regulator has added a KYC registration agency database for easy registration of investors on Scores. Investors will be able to lodge complaints only through the new version of SCORE. This website is available at https://scores.sebi.gov.in. The old website, https://scores.gov.in will remain operational only to check the status of old complaints. SEBI has informed that the old Scores app has been discontinued and a new app will be launched soon.

7 Digital India Trust Agency

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)  is considering setting up  the Digital India Trust Agency (DIGITA)  to tackle the spread of illegal lending apps  and curb rising cyber frauds . The purpose of this proposed agency is to verify digital lending apps, maintain a public register of verified apps, and promote transparency and accountability in the digital lending sector. In recent years, India has seen a rise in fraudulent activities and unethical practices in the digital lending sector. RBI has taken several measures to address this issue, including working with the IT Ministry and Google to whitelist legitimate digital lending apps and removing unauthorized apps from the Google Play Store.

9 Income Tax Department imposed a fine of ₹564.44 crore on  Bank of India

Bank of India (BoI)  has   disclosed the receipt of an order from the Income Tax Department, Assessment Unit in respect of Assessment Year (AY) 2018-19 . The order  imposes a penalty of ₹564.44 crore on various rejections made by the bank  . Bank of India is initiating the appeal process before the Commissioner of Income Tax, National Faceless Appeal Center (NFAC) against the order. The Bank believes that it has sufficient factual and legal basis to prove its position in the case based on the preference/orders of the appellate authorities.

14 Miami Open: Italy’s Jannik Sinner won men’s singles title

Italy  ‘s  Jannik Sinner  won the men’s singles at the Miami Open tennis tournament  in  the United States  last night  . Second seed Sinner  defeated Bulgarian player Grigor Dimitrov  6-3,6-1 in the final. With this title, Sinner will reach his career-high second position in the ATP world rankings, ahead of Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
