13. Scientists probe the characteristics of a form of plasma wave detected at the Indian Antarctic station Maitri

Scientists have  detected  such  electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves at the Indian Antarctic station Maitri. Identified, which is a form of plasma waves, and studied their characteristics. These waves play an important role in the precipitation of killer electrons (the speed of electrons is close to the speed of light, which form the radiation belt of the planet Earth), which are space-borne in our technology/devices. are harmful to This study can be helpful in understanding the effect of energetic particles in the radiation belt on satellites placed in low orbits. EMIC waves are microscopic electromagnetic emissions found in the Earth’s magnetosphere. These waves originate in equatorial latitudes and propagate along magnetic field lines to the high latitude ionosphere. Information about them can be obtained from both space as well as ground-based magnetometers.

14. Tea mosquito bug affecting production: UPASI

Tea production in India  is under threat  due to infestation of  tea mosquito bug (TMB) . The tea mosquito bug (Helopeltis theivora) is a common  pest  that sucks the sap from the tender parts of tea plants, causing heavy damage to the crop. At present only seven insecticides are approved for use in South India under PPC and tea growers are unable to effectively control this pest. UPASI has sought government approval to use effective molecules evaluated and approved by the Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIBRC) for other crops in India so that the impact on tea production is minimal. CIBRC was established by the Ministry of Agriculture in the year 1970 to regulate insecticides under the Insecticides Act, 1968 and the Insecticides Rules, 1971.
