Justice Ritu Bahri  took   oath as the Chief Justice of  Uttarakhand  High Court . Governor  retired Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh  administered him the oath. Justice Ritu Bahri   has become the first woman Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court. Justice Ritu Bahri has previously   been a senior judge of the Punjab  and  Haryana High Court. Justice Vipin Sanghi had retired as the Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court on October 26, after which senior Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari was made the acting Chief Justice of the High Court.

2 UAE’s Emirates Airline partners with VFS Global to offer visa on arrival to select Indians

UAE  ‘s  Emirates Airline  has partnered with VFS Global  to provide  visa on arrival  to select Indians  . This facility will be given to those Indians who have booked their tickets through the airline and who have a  US visaUS Green Card  and  a visa for at least six months of stay in the European Union or Britain  . It will be issued as a 14-day single entry visa. Emirates Airline currently operates 167 flights a week from nine cities in India.

3 Female robot astronaut “Vyommitra” will fly in space before ISRO’s “Gaganyaan” mission.

Union Minister  Dr Jitendra Singh  has said that female robot astronaut “Vyommitra”  will fly in space before  ISRO’s ” Gaganyaan ” mission. Gaganyaan will be India’s first manned space flight to carry Indian astronauts to space. Mr Singh said the unmanned “Vyommitra” mission   is scheduled for the third quarter of this year . He said that the manned mission “Gaganyaan”   will be launched in 2025 . Dr Jitendra Singh said that the “Vyommitra” module is equipped with the technology to monitor, issue alerts and perform life support operations. He informed that the “Vyommitra” astronaut was designed to simulate human actions in the space environment and understand the survival system. The Gaganyaan project aims to send a crew of astronauts to a 400 km orbit and then return them safely to Earth.

5 Anil Kumar Lahoti appointed Chairman of TRAI

 Former  Railway Board chief Anil Kumar Lahoti  has   been appointed Chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) . The tenure of PD Vaghela, the first former chairman of TRAI, has ended. After this this post was vacant for about 4 months. Lahoti’s tenure, initially for three years or until he turns 65, will replace Meenakshi Gupta, who held the post temporarily.

6 ‘Kalaignar Sports Kit’ initiative launched in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu  Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister  Udhayanidhi Stalin  recently announced a pioneering scheme that aims to nurture sports talent at the grassroots level.  Named after the late  Kalaignar Karunanidhi , the ‘ Kalaignar Sports Kit ‘ initiative is set to provide sports kits to 12,000 gram panchayats across the state.

Popular  Tamil actor Vijay announced the formation of  his political party, ‘ Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam ‘ on 2 February. The announcement comes at a crucial moment ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, marking Vijay’s official entry into the political arena. While revealing that his party will not contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections , he expressed his intention to contest  the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections  . 9 Central government declared Surat as international airport

Taking a big decision, the Central Government   has declared Surat Airport   in  Gujarat as  an international airport . The Civil Aviation Ministry has given this information by issuing a notification. In this way Gujarat   has got its third international airport . Surat is famous all over the world for its diamond business. In such a situation, this decision of the government will greatly benefit the industrialists and diamond traders of Surat. Earlier,  Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (Ahmedabad)  and  Rajkot International Airport  were the international airports in Gujarat.

10 Pawan Kumar becomes Chief Advisor in Finance Ministry

 Consequent to the approval of  the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) , Shri Pawan Kumar , ICOAS  has assumed charge as Chief Advisor (Cost), Department of Expenditure,  Ministry  of  Finance in Level-17 (Top Level) with effect from 01/02/2024 .

11 Jay Shah becomes ACC President for the third consecutive time

BCCI  Secretary  Jay Shah  has   been elected as the President of the Asian Cricket Council for the third consecutive time .  Jay Shah has completed two terms of two years each and this will be his third term, where he will hold the position of ACC President.

12 Abhinav Bindra selected as torch bearer for 2024 Paris Olympics

Abhinav Bindra,  India’s  first individual gold medalist at  the Olympic Games  , has been selected as  the torch bearer for the  upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games. These games  will be held  in the  French capital from 26 July to 11 August  . Abhinav Bindra , gold medalist in the men’s 10m air rifle event  at  the 2008 Beijing Olympics,  will participate in the Olympic torch relay from April 16 to July 26. Bindra has won seven medals at the Commonwealth Games and three medals at the Asian Games, making him one of India’s most successful shooters. The Paris 2024 Olympic torch relay will begin on May 8, 2024 in France. The torch will travel to Marseille before beginning a 68-day journey across French territories, covering a total of 65 regions, including five overseas territories. The relay will include 10,000 torch bearers, including 3,000 participating in the team relay, and it will visit 400 cities. The Olympic torch is a symbol of the Olympic Games. It is lit in Olympia under the authority of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Karnataka  won  the Nagesh Trophy  ,   a significant achievement in the Men’s National Blind T20 Cricket Tournament 2023-24 .  Karnataka  defeated Andhra Pradesh by nine wickets in a thrilling final held in  Nagpur  , ending a 20-year wait for the national title. The victory not only showcased the extraordinary talent of visually impaired cricketers but also highlighted the spirit of resilience and determination that defines the game.

International Day of Human Fraternity  serves as a powerful reminder of the beauty of unity and the strength found in diversity.  Celebrated annually  on 4 February , the day calls for global solidarity and mutual understanding, underscoring the importance of compassion, respect and empathy in overcoming hatred and conflict. The day has its roots in a significant event that took place on February 4, 2019, when two prominent religious leaders—Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed al-Tayyeb—signed the “Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together” Were. This historic gesture laid the groundwork for the establishment of the International Day of Human Fraternity in December 2020 by the United Nations General Assembly, which aims to promote interreligious harmony and cultural understanding around the world.

World Cancer Day   is celebrated on 4 February . The purpose of this day   is to save crores of people from death every year by increasing education and awareness . Cancer Day inspires people and governments around the world to take action against this deadly disease. Cancer causes the highest number of deaths in the world. One in six deaths worldwide is caused by cancer. Almost every house is affected by this disease. The estimated number of new cancer cases worldwide is 200 crore. There are 9 crore 70 lakh deaths due to cancer in 2022. According to the World Health Organization, cancer cases will increase by approximately 77 percent by 2050. Because of this, it will have a wide-ranging impact on the health system, people and community. The most common cases of breast, lung, colon, rectum and prostate cancer are found worldwide. Breast cancer cases were the highest in 2020, while lung cancer had the highest number of deaths worldwide. The National Cancer Registry Program of the Indian Council of Medical Research – ‘ICMR-NCRP’ reported that the number of cervical cancer in India was more than three lakh forty thousand in 2023.
