List of Current Governors of India 2017 (States & Union Territories)
The governors and lieutenant governor are appointed by the president of India for the tenure of 5 years generally and hold the office until the pleasure. The governor and lieutenant governor are executive heads of the states and the union territories respectively. There are 29 states and 7 union territories in India. There is a provision of the governor for each state and lieutenant governor for each union territory.
Note: Recently President Ram Nath Kovind appointed five governors for the states of Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. President also appointed Lieutenant Governor for Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
