1.DefExpo-2022, the 12th edition of the Defense Exhibition, will be held in Gujarat from March 10 to 14.

The Defense Ministry will organize the 12th Defense Exhibition in Gandhi Nagar , Gujarat from March 10 to 14 . This international exhibition will focus on air, water, land and internal security and electronic systems. The government believes that India has the amazing potential to emerge as a major center of defense manufacturing. The seminars of the Defense Exhibition will be conducted in hybrid mode and will be broadcast live across the world. Experts media organizations from the defense sector, Indian industry, Defense Research and Development Organisation, Ministry of Civil Aviation and State Governments, besides many domestic and foreign companies related to defense manufacturing will also participate in these seminars.

2.India-Pakistan Permanent Indus Commission meeting held in Islamabad from 1st to 3rd March

The 117th meeting of the India-Pakistan Permanent Indus Commission was held in Islamabad , the capital of Pakistan , from March 1 to March 3 . Indus commissioners of both the countries attended this meeting. Indian delegation led by Indus Water Commissioner PK Saxena did. During the meeting all the hydro projects including Pakal Dul, Kiru and Lower Kalnai were discussed. India emphasized that all its projects are in compliance with the provisions of the treaty. He gave technical details in support of this. The commission discussed the exchange of hydrological and flood related data. Both sides also discussed the issue of Fazilka Canal. Pakistan assured that all necessary action would continue to ensure the free flow of Fazilka Canal in river Sutlej. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere. In 1960, the Indus Water Treaty was signed between India and Pakistan. Under its provisions, the Indus Water Commissioners of the two countries are required to meet at least once every year by rotation. The last meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission was held in March 2021 in New Delhi.

3.Over 140 aircraft of the Indian Air Force to participate in the Vayu Shakti exercise to be held at Pokhran Test Range

Over 140 aircraft of the Indian Air Force will participate in the Vayu Shakti exercise to be held on March 7 at the Pokhran test range in Rajasthan . Rafale, Light Combat Aircraft – Tejas, Sukhoi-30 and other fighter aircraft in this exercisewill participate. This will be the biggest ever exercise of the Air Force. It is organized every three years in which the Air Force showcases its skills. The Air Force released a video promo depicting the objective of the exercise to showcase its prowess. Vayu Shakti Maneuver is all about displaying your skills while targeting enemy convoys, tanks, radar stations, railway yards and military headquarters etc. from the ground. Earlier this exercise was done on February 16, 2019.

4.Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi presented the National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Awards 2022

On March 1, 2022 , Central Depository Services (India) announced that it now has over six crore (ie equivalent to 60 million) active demat accounts . Demat account is a type of account that can be used to hold online copies of securities and shares . Demat account in its entirety is a dematerializedeats. The main objective of a demat account is to hold shares that have been bought or dematerialized (meaning the conversion of shares from physical to electronic form), to facilitate online share trading for the users. The only listed depository in India is Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL). Anant Baruah, Whole Time Member, Securities and Exchange Board of India, said at a function to commemorate the achievement that the dematerialization has arisen as a result of issues of physical shares with them. Barua also said that the new milestone shows that access to the Indian securities market has become safe, convenient and easy. Further, Barua said that new investors should be educated about the Indian securities market, the role of market infrastructure organizations and investor protection so that well-informed decisions can be taken.

6.World Bank appoints its India chief as Vice-Chairman of MIGA

World Bank India director Junaid Kamal Ahmed has been named vice-chairman of the international lending agency . Ahmed, who will head the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) as Vice President of Operations, is only the second Bangladeshi to be elected to such a high position in the bank’s history . According to a press statement, he will start his new job on April 16. On the operational side, Faisal Chowdhury was the first Bangladeshi origin to hold the post of Vice President.

8.175 countries adopt historic resolution on plastic pollution at the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly

Three draft resolutions to tackle plastic pollution were considered in the resumption session of the Fifth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 5.2) , held in Nairobi from 28 February 2022 to 2 March 2022 . The draft resolution submitted by India called for immediate collective voluntary action by countries. India has initiated global action on plastic pollution by setting up an intergovernmental negotiating committee for a new international treaty that is legally binding.Worked constructively with all Member States in UNEA 5.2 to develop a consensus on the resolution to At India’s insistence, the principle of national conditions and capacity was incorporated into the text of the resolution to allow developing countries to follow their development path when taking action to combat plastic pollution. After lengthy negotiations, the key objectives of India’s draft resolution were adequately spelled out in the resolution on “End Plastic Pollution: Towards an International Legally Binding Way”, which was adopted at the reopened fifth session of the UNEA. Gaya, which concluded on 2 March 2022. UNEA 5.2 will be remembered for agreeing to collective global action, respecting national circumstances and capabilities.

9.Google and MeitY to train 100 Indian startups under Appscale Academy program

MeitY Startup Hub , an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) , and Google have launched over 100 mid-stage startups as a part of the Appscale Academy programme .A group has been announced. AppScale Academy is a new growth and development program for startups launched by MeitY and Google to help and train early to mid-stage startups across India on building high quality apps and games for a global audience. These 100 startups were selected from over 400 applications after a thorough selection process. Under the six-month AppScale Academy programme, 100 startups will be trained through a customized curriculum that includes virtual instructor-led webinars, self-learning materials and mentorship sessions with local and global industry professionals.

10.TS Ramakrishnan appointed as the new MD and CEO of LIC Mutual Fund

LIC Mutual Fund has effectively announced the appointment of TS Ramakrishnan as its Managing Director and CEO. Ramakrishnan will succeed Dinesh Pangte , its former whole-time director and CEO , as MD and CEO of LIC Mutual Fund Asset Management . Ramakrishnan is a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) and PGDIM and has been awarded Fellowship from the prestigious Insurance Institute of India. He has over 34 years of experience in LIC and its subsidiaries/associates, the release said. He joined LIC Mutual Fund AMC on April 28, 2021.

12.Ukrainian government requests that Turkey use its authority under the Montreux Convention to restrict the movement of Russian ships

The Montreux Convention is an international treaty that governs the Bosporus and Dardanelles Straits of Turkey . It was signed on July 20, 1936 at the Montreux Palace in Switzerland , and came into force on November 9, 1936. It was signed to address the long-standing strait question as to who should manage the strategically important route between the Black and Mediterranean Seas . Maritime traffic through the Black Seais governed by the Montreux Convention. During peacetime, it provides complete freedom of passage for all civilian ships and allows Turkey to limit the movement of navies that do not belong to the Black Sea states. During wars, the agreement gives Turkey the right to regulate naval warship transit and block straits for warships from countries in conflict. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Ukrainian government requested that Turkey use its authority under the Montreux Convention to restrict the movement of Russian ships from the Mediterranean Sea to the Black Sea. At least six Russian warships and one submarine passed through this strait. After some reluctance, due to Turkey’s close ties with both countries, The Turkish Foreign Minister announced that the government would officially recognize the Russian invasion as war, thereby giving effect to the Convention regarding Military Ships. Turkey cannot, however, prevent Russian warships from returning to their registered bases under the terms of this agreement.

13.New rules issued for reservation in jobs for economically weaker sections in Ladakh

Padma Angmo , Secretary, Department of Social and Tribal Welfare in Ladakh has issued new rules for reservation in jobs for the Economically Weaker Section-EWS . Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and persons belonging to EWS not covered under the scheme of reservation for villages bordering the Line of Actual Control will get 10% reservation in direct recruitment in various posts and services in Ladakh administration. Under the new rules, recognized property holders and families with a gross annual income of less than Rs 8 lakh will come under the EWS category. EWS certificate can be obtained from the competent authority by presenting the Income and Asset Certificate.

15.Knight Frank: India ranks third in population of billionaires globally

According to the latest edition of Knight Frank ‘s The Wealth Report 2022 , India ranks third in terms of the largest number of billionaire population globally in 2021 . The number of ultra-high-net-worth-individuals (UHNWIs) in India grew by 11% annually to 145 billionaires in 2021, the highest percentage increase in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. UHNWIs are individuals who have a net worth of US$ 30m or more (Rs 226 crore) . The United States (748) and China (554) are in this list, respectively.is at the top. Bengaluru recorded the highest growth in the number of UHNWIs in 2021 from 17.1% to 352 billionaires. It was followed by Delhi (12.4% to 210) and Mumbai (9% to 1596) in 2021.

16.NASA launches next generation GOES-T weather satellite

The US space agency, NASA successfully launched the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) , the third in a series of four next-generation weather satellites , from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida . The satellite is named GOES-T . Once the satellite is placed in its geostationary orbit, it will be renamed from GOES-T to GOES-18 . GOES-T will be used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to forecast weather and hazardous environmental conditions in the Western Hemisphere .

17.Adani Green gets LOA for setting up 150 MW solar power plant

Adani Green Energy Limited said that its subsidiary Adani Renewable Energy Holding Fifteen Limited has received the Letter of Award (LOA) for setting up a 150 MW solar power plant . For a period of 25 years, the rate fixed for this project capacity is $2.34/kWhIs. According to a statement issued by the Adani Group, the company said in a stock exchange filing, Adani Renewable Energy Holding Fifteen Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Green Energy Limited, participated in a tender called Punjab State Power Corporation Limited. Ltd. for acquisition of 250 MW solar power from ground-mounted grid-connected solar PV power plant and has received Letter of Award for setting up of 150 MW solar power project. Adani Green currently has a fully renewable energy project portfolio of 20.434 MW capacity, with operational projects of 5.410 MW. According to the firm, there are now 11,591 MW projects under construction, of which 3.433 MW projects are nearing completion. Adani Green Energy Limited is an Indian renewable energy firm headquartered in Ahmedabad, is in Gujarat and is part of the Adani Group. In one year, shares of Adani Green Energy have given returns of over 61 per cent while the company has gained over 36 per cent so far in 2022 (Year-to-date or YTD), as against 5 in the benchmark BSE Sensex. % has declined.

18.Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament: Nikhat Zareen and Neetu win gold for India
