  • Recently , two new species of underground spiders – Grevelia boro and Dexypus kleini in the ‘ Jharbari range ‘ of Chirang Reserve Forest in western Assam .has been discovered. Both these spiders have been discovered in the Bodoland Territorial Area. The first spider, ‘Gravelia boro’, is named after the Bodo community and builds burrows with cork-like webs made of soil, vegetation and silk. These spiders live underground about 10-15 cm below the sandy-loam surface. The ‘Dexipus kleini’, an Oriental jumping spider, has been seen for the first time in the region. This spider was originally discovered 129 years ago by Swedish archaeologist Tord Tamerlan Thorel. ‘Dexipus kleini’ is a member of the ‘Salticidae’ family, the largest family of spiders on Earth.
