1 President attends closing ceremony of 75th year of Odisha High Court

The President  Smt. Draupadi Murmu  attended and addressed the closing ceremony of the 75th year  of  the Orissa  High Court  at Cuttack on July 26, 2023  . Talking about the 75th year celebrations of the Odisha High Court, the President said that the Odisha High Court has set several high benchmarks in its glorious journey of 75 years. The stalwarts of this High Court include a long list of judges like Babu Jagannath Das, Ranganath Mishra, Radha Charan Patnaik, Deba Priya Mohapatra, Gopal Ballabh Patnaik, Arijit Pasayat, Anang Kumar Patnaik and Dipak Misra who went on to become Supreme Court judges and Some of them also served as the Chief Justice of India. Orissa High Court established on  26 July 1948 Happened on Orissa (now Orissa) was made a separate province on 1 April 1936 but there was no separate High Court for it. The Government of India agreed to create a new High Court and on 30 April 1948 issued the Orissa High Court Order, 1948 under Section 229(1) of the Government of India Act, 1935.

The British Government  has   opened its second ballot under the UK-India Young Professionals Scheme . This   is a scheme for Indians in the age group of 18 to 30 years with graduation level eligibility for visa to United Kingdom . This ballot gives eligible young Indians  the opportunity to live, work or study in the UK for up to two years. provides. The British High Commission in New Delhi tweeted that Indian citizens aged 18 to 30 years with an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification can apply for the India Young Professional Scheme visa. This joint scheme between the UK and India was formally launched in February this year. The scheme will enable candidates to enter the UK at any time while their visa is valid and to leave or return at any time during their stay. British nationals will also be offered similar visas to live and work in India, under an agreement between the two countries signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. A total of 3,000 places are available under this scheme for the year 2023. Candidates must travel to the UK within six months of applying for their visa.

6 Naveen Patnaik became the second longest serving Chief Minister in Indian history

Odisha  ‘s  Naveen Patnaik  on Sunday   became  the second longest-serving chief minister  of a state in India with a tenure of  23 years and 139 days ,  surpassing  former  West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu ‘s record. Patnaik, a five-time chief minister of Odisha, assumed office on March 5, 2000 and has been   in office for the last 23 years and 139 days . Patnaik now  in Sikkim   second only to   ‘s  Pawan Kumar Chamling , who served 24 years and 166 days  between  December  2019. Holds the record of leading the state for the longest period of time. Basu stepped down in 2000 after ruling the eastern state for 23 consecutive years, while Chamling lost the May 2019 assembly elections in the Himalayan state.

Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai  was   sworn in as the 38th Chief Justice  of  the Kerala High Court at a formal ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan  . Kerala Governor  Arif Mohammed Khan  administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Chief Justice, marking the beginning of his tenure. He was previously a judge of the Gujarat High Court and served as the senior-most judge of that court, also temporarily performing the duties of the office of Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.

13 Delhi government launches RO ATM to provide clean water to every household

The Delhi government  is installing RO ATMs  at various places to provide  clean water to every household  in the capital  . Chief Minister  Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated RO ATM at Khajan Basti, Mayapuri Phase II. During this, he said that a unique experiment like water-ATM is being used to provide clean water to every household in Delhi. The Chief Minister said that wherever the Jal Board has to supply water through tankers, the government will start water-ATMs. He said that apart from Khajan Basti, RO plants have started in Shakurbasti, Kalka and Jharoda under the pilot project in Delhi. Shri Kejriwal said that about 500 such RO plants would be set up in the coming days. Every person will be given a water ATM card, with the help of which he will be able to take 20 liters of free water per day. The Chief Minister said that there are many areas in Delhi which are densely populated and due to various reasons water pipeline cannot be laid in such areas. He said that this technology is being used for adequate supply of water in such areas.

17 Ground water law implemented in  21 states and union territories

The Union Ministry of Jal Shakti  informed the Parliament on 20 July 2023 that  21 states and union territories  have implemented the Ground Water Act. This law   includes the provision of rain water harvesting . In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti  Bishweshwar Tudu  informed that the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti has prepared a model bill to enable all states and union territories to enact appropriate groundwater laws. According to the Ministry, 21 States/Union Territories which have so far implemented the Ground Water Act on the lines of the Model Bill include Andhra Pradesh,  Assam , Bihar, Goa,  HaryanaHimachal PradeshKarnatakaKeralaMaharashtra , Nagaland, Odisha,  PunjabTelanganaUttar Pradesh , Bengal,  Chandigarh , Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu,  Jammu and Kashmir , Ladakh,  Lakshadweep  and Puducherry.
