1 Scientists who made possible the development of mRNA-based Covid vaccines will jointly receive the Nobel Prize for 2023.

The Nobel Prize for the year 2023  in  the field of Medicine or Physiology will be  jointly   awarded to Hungarian-American Professor Katalin Kariko  and  American Professor Drew Wiseman . These two scientists developed technology that   made it possible to manufacture m-RNA based Covid vaccines . This technology was being experimented with before the global pandemic but now it has been given to millions of people in the world. Research is also being done on this mRNA technology for other diseases including cancer.  Professor Kariko and Professor Wiseman have been working at  the University of Pennsylvania for a long time . Both of them will receive the prestigious Laskar Award in 2021 for their research.  Has been honored with many awards including. These vaccines   prepare the body’s immune system to fight viruses or bacteria . M-RNA technology is different from traditional vaccines. When a virus or bacteria attacks our body, this technology sends a message to our cells to make proteins to fight that virus. This provides the necessary protein to our immune system. During the Covid pandemic, the Moderna, Pfizer and BioNTech vaccines were based on mRNA technology.

Prime Minister  Shri Narendra Modi  laid  the foundation stone and inaugurated various development projects worth about Rs 19,260 crore  in  Gwalior  ,  Madhya Pradesh  . Projects include inauguration of Delhi-Vadodara Expressway, inauguration of more than 2.2 lakh houses constructed under PMAY and inauguration of houses constructed under PMAY – Urban, foundation stone of Jal Jeevan Mission projects, opening of 9 health centers under Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission. The foundation stone laying ceremony   includes inauguration of the academic building of IIT Indore and laying of the foundation stone of hostel and other buildings on the campus and a multi-modal logistics park at Indore. He founded the Integrated Industrial Township at Ujjain, IOCL Bottling Plant and Gwalior. Atal Bihari Vajpayee  also inaugurated many other projects including Divyang Sports Training Centre.

Prime Minister  Shri Narendra Modi  laid  the foundation stone of various development projects worth about Rs 7,000 crore  in  Chittorgarh  ,  Rajasthan  and dedicated it to the nation. Projects include  Mehsana-Bhatinda-Gurdaspur gas pipelineLPG plant of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) at Abu Road,  additional storage at  Ajmer bottling plantIndian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) , railway and road projects, tourism facilities at Nathdwara and Kota. It consists of the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Information Technology.

4 WHO approves second malaria vaccine

The World Health Organization (WHO)  has   approved the second malaria vaccine, R21/Matrix-M . This vaccine could help fight malaria in many countries, being cheaper and more effective than previous vaccines. WHO Director General  Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus  said that the United Nations health agency has approved this vaccine on the advice of two expert groups. Experts have recommended the use of this vaccine in children at risk of malaria. Oxford University, with the help of the Serum Institute of India (SII), has developed a new vaccine, which consists of three doses. This research showed that the vaccine is more than 75 percent effective and, with a booster dose, maintains protection for at least another year.

5 Country’s first solar roof cycling track inaugurated in Hyderabad

 The country’s first  solar roof cycling track in Hyderabad was inaugurated by   Urban Development and State Municipal Administration Minister  Tarakarma Rao  .  This innovative track named  Healthway  is the second track of its kind globally . Located on the Outer Ring Road between Hyderabad’s main carriageway and service road, the track will be open 24 hours a day, giving a big boost to the cycling community in the city. It is also an important step towards making Hyderabad an active and dynamic capital of the country.

6 Defense Minister unveils various digital initiatives during the 276th Annual Day celebrations of Defense Accounts Department

Defense Minister  Shri Rajnath Singh  launched   several digital initiatives during the 276th Annual Day Celebrations of the Department of Defense Accounts (DAD held at  Delhi Cantonment  on  01 October, 2023 . This initiative includes an integrated defense finance dashboard for the Ministry of Defense ‘ Summary ‘ – a summary of accounts, budget and expenditure for the Ministry of Defence; Biswas –  Includes   Bill Information and Work Analysis System and  e-Raksha Housing . Summary (Summary of Accounts, Budget and Expenditure for the Ministry of Defence) It was conceptualized and developed with the objective of reflecting a more accurate and objective view of Defense financial data across India on payments, accounting, budget etc. across various databases of various IT systems running in the Defense Accounts Department by leveraging data analytics. Is. Biswas will serve as a dashboard for various PCDAs/CDAs and display various infographics for the purpose of monitoring and analyzing the entire process flow of bill management including reports on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). e-Defence Housing is a centralized and comprehensive software package designed to streamline and optimize the process of timely generation of rent and associated charges for rentable buildings within the Defense Services and prompt remittance of rent and associated charges into Government accounts. 7 DRI rescues 955 Ganga turtles in Operation ‘Kachhap’ conducted across multiple cities in action against illegal wildlife trade

 The Directorate  of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has caught 6 people along with 955 live hatchlings   of  different species of turtles living in the Ganga  in  Nagpur, Bhopal and Chennai . ‘Gangetic Turtles’, some of which are listed as  Endangered/Near Endangered species under the IUCN Red List  and  Schedule I and II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. As specified, intelligence was gathered by DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) officials about a syndicate involved in illegal smuggling and trade of. Illegal trade and decreasing natural habitat are major threats to these species. The rescued Gangetic turtle species are Indian Tent Turtle, Indian Flapshell Turtle, Crown River Turtle, Black Spotted/Pond Turtle and Brown Roofed Turtle.

Shri Gadkari stressed on the need for a holistic approach by stakeholders at all levels to reduce road accidents and deaths. He reiterated India’s special emphasis on spreading awareness to influence behavioral change and ensure flawless enforcement of rules.

9. Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference opens at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center in UAE

The Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition  and Conference   in  the United Arab Emirates  opened at the National Exhibition Center in Abu Dhabi . The Indian pavilion at the exhibition was inaugurated   by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri . More than 1 lakh 60 thousand people from 164 countries are expected to participate in this program which will run till October 5. The theme of the program is  to reduce carbon emissions rapidly and together . This exhibition mainly focuses on energy based technology, innovation, collaboration and digitalization. This program is being organized seven weeks before the 28th International Climate Change Conference-COP-28. The United Arab Emirates is hosting this conference.

10 Dominican Republic Vice President Raquel Pena Rodriguez to visit India on official visit

The Ministry of External Affairs has said that   Vice President of  the Dominican Republic Raquel Pena Rodriguez  will visit India from October 3-5.  The Vice President of the Dominican Republic is set to visit India at the invitation of her Indian counterpart  Jagdeep Dhankhar . This will be the first visit of the Vice President of the Dominican Republic to India. The visit is significant as it comes at a time when India-Dominican Republic  bilateral relations  are entering their 25th year . The Ministry of External Affairs has said in an official release that the two countries signed an agreement  on 04 May 1999. Diplomatic relations were established. During her visit, Vice President Raquel Peña Rodríguez will meet President Draupadi Murmu. She will also hold discussions with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and other Indian dignitaries and deliver a lecture on India-Dominican Republic relations at the Indian Council of World Affairs. The Dominican Republic is an important partner of India in the Latin America and Caribbean region. The visit of the Vice President to the Dominican Republic comes on the heels of External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar’s visit to that country in April 2023, the release said.

In the 11th Asian Games, India won three silver and four bronze medals on the ninth day, taking the medal tally to 60.

 India  has won three silver and four bronze  medals in the Hangzhou Asian Games . With this, India’s  total number of medals  has increased to 60. In athletics,  India’s Edapalli NC Sojan  won the silver medal in the women’s long jump event. In women’s steeple chase event, Parul Chaudhary got silver medal and Preeti got bronze  medal.  India was also successful in winning  the silver medal in the 4×400 meter relay mixed team event.  Today  the Indian women’s and men’s team  won  bronze medals in speed skating . In table tennis,  India’s  Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee  won   the women’s doubles bronze medal .

12 Gandhi Jayanti: 2 October

Mahatma Gandhi was  born  on October 2, 1869 in  Porbandar (Gujarat)  . He was a famous lawyer, politician, social worker and writer, who played an important role in India’s nationalist movement against British rule. In South Africa (1893-1915)  he established a new method of mass movement i.e. ‘ Satyagraha ‘ and successfully fought the racist regime with it. Under the idea of ​​’Satyagraha’, the need for ‘power of truth’ and ‘pursuit of truth with non-violence’ was emphasized. ‘ International Day of Non-Violence ‘ on 02 October on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti across the world‘ is organized. The ‘Gandhi Peace Prize’ is awarded annually for bringing about social, economic and political change through non-violence and other Gandhian methods.

13 Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti: 2 October

Every year on  2 October,  along with Gandhi Jayanti,  Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti  is also celebrated.  Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri,  the second Prime Minister of India  and a great leader of the Indian freedom struggle, was born on 2 October 1904  in Mughalsarai  , a small railway town, seven miles from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The life of Lal Bahadur Shastri is an ideal example of simplicity, honesty and dutifulness. Before becoming Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri had also held the charge of Railway Minister, Transport and Communications Minister, Commerce and Industry Minister and Home Minister.
