Vice President M. Wankeyanideu inaugurated Smart City Expo India-2012 in Jaipur on Wednesday. Emphasizing the need for water conservation, Shri Naidu emphasized on the need for water conservation in the function organized on this occasion that the Rajasthan Government has been engaged in important work of connecting rivers. The Vice President said smart vision , smart action and smart implementation are essential for the development of smart cities . He said that no city can become smart without public support.

 

2.Defense Purchase Council approves purchase of one thousand engines for T-72 tanks :-

The Defense Purchase Council has approved the purchase of one thousand engines for Army’s T-72 tanks. These will cost more than twenty three billion rupees. The Ministry of Defense has said in a statement that these engines will increase the capacity of T-72 tanks and they will prove to be more effective in war. It has also been said that most of the engines will be manufactured by the Ordnance Factory Board.

According to our correspondent, “the Defense Purchase Council has approved several amendments in the rules governing defense procurement. Under this, the purchase made in the services of the Central Armed Police Force and the Border Road Organization has been brought under the purchase order, that is, the order of repeat order. This decision has been taken with the objective of reducing the time limit in defense procurement and smooth the process. ”

 

3.India and Afghanistan have a draw in Asia Cup cricket :-

In the Super Cup of Asia Cup in Dubai on Tuesday night, the current champion India and Afghanistan have reached the thrilling draw in the exciting round.

Chasing Afghanistan’s target of 253, India lost their last wicket as Ravindra Jadeja on the fifth ball of the 50th over and the whole team was out for 252 runs. Ravindra Jadeja scored 25 runs.

Opener Lokesh Rahul made 60 in the final and Ambati Rayudu scored 57 runs for the first wicket with 110 runs before Dinesh Karthik scored 44 but could not win the team.

Mohammad Nabi 40, Rashid Khan 41, Aftab Alam took two for two and took three wickets for Afghanistan.

In the final, India will face the winner of the match between Bangladesh and Pakistan on Wednesday, September 28.

 

4.Cabinet approves financial assistance of Rs 825 crore for repair of Sirhind feeder canal and Rajasthan feeder canal :-

Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Cabinet approved the central assistance of Rs. 620.42 crore and Rs. 205.758 crore respectively to repair the Rajasthan feeder canal and Sirhind feeder canal during the 5 years (2018-19 to 2022-23) . Sirhind feeder will be rectified from RD 119700 to 447927 and Rajasthan feeder from 179000 to 496000 in Punjab.

Effects :

With the implementation of these dual projects, 84800 hectares of land in Muksar, Faridkot and Ferozepur districts in south-west Punjab will help solve the problem of water logging.

With the implementation of these projects, the problem of water logging in south-west Punjab and help in increasing water flow / water availability in these two canals will be done.

By repairing the Rajasthan feeder, repairing 98,739 hectares of land and Sirhind feeder will benefit farmers of the region from the stable / revised irrigation system for 69,086 hectares of land.

Cost:

Funding for central assistance to Rajasthan feeder and Sirhind feeder will be done through NABARD under the existing system of financing of 99 PMKSY-AIBP under LTIF.

In addition to the existing monitoring system of projects by the Central Water Commission, a Special Project Review Committee can be constituted to oversee the overall implementation of these projects.

Approved cost of repairing Sirhind feeder canal on the basis of 2015 PL 671.478 crores and approved cost of Rajasthan feeder canal is 1305.267 crores. In the total estimated cost, Rs 826.168 crore will be given as central assistance, out of which Rs 205.758 crore will be given to Sirhind feeder and Rs 620.41 crore for Rajasthan feeder.

In order to repair Sirhind feeder and Rajasthan feeder, the investment clearance for revised cost estimates of Rs 671.478 crore and Rs 1305.26 crore was approved on April 6, 2016.

During the year 2016, a team under the chairmanship of the Chairman of Central Water Commission took stock of the projects. After this, another team under the leadership of Shri AB Pandya, former Chairman of Central Water Commission, during 2017 reviewed the projects. The parties suggested to start the reform work. The Punjab government also gave its financial consent on April 26, 2018.

 

5.The Cabinet approved the MoU between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya :-

Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has given its approval to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. This will help in mutual cooperation in the field of knowledge sharing, through joint research , quality support, capacity building, trainee accountant exchange program and continuous professional development (CPD) courses, workshops and conferences.

6.The Cabinet has approved the disinvestment of the incomplete projects of Hotel Gulmarg Ashok, Gulmarg and Hotel Pataliputra Ashok, Patna respectively to the governments of Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar, respectively (disinvestment) :-

Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the disinvestment policy of the ITC’s properties / units / joint enterprises ahead of the disinvestment policy . This disinvestment will be done by disinvestment of the incomplete projects of Gulmarg Ashok, Gulmarg and Hotel Pataliputra Ashok, Patna respectively to the governments of Jammu and Kashmir and Bihar respectively.

Background:

According to the Government of India’s Disinvestment Policy, it was decided to give lease / sub-lease to the State Governments for the hotels / properties / units / joint ventures of Indian Tourism Development Corporation Limited (ITDC). In the event of the consent of the State Governments on the proposal of the lease / sub-belt, the proposal to return the properties to the state government at the official face value was also approved. This policy was made keeping in mind that operating and managing hotels in a professional manner is not the work of the government or its companies.

With the approval of the Government of India’s Disinvestment Policy and the approval of the Cabinet Economic Committee, the Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) and the Ministry of Tourism ,  ITDC has Hotel Lake View Ashok, Bhopal, Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok Guhavati, Hotel Bharatpur Ashok Bharatpur, Hotel Janpath, New Delhi The properties / units / joint ventures have been transferred to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Hotel properties of Lalita Mahal Palace Mysore, Hotel duo Polo Ashok, Itanagar and Hotel Jaipur Ashok, Jaipur have been transferred to the respective State Governments.

 

7.Successful air test of air-to-air “Astrot” BVR missile  :-

The Indian Air Force successfully tested the Air Force Station, Kalaikunda, with the Air Force Air Force Station, Kalaikunda, of Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAM) prepared in the country. The test done with artificial targets has passed all the parameters and objectives of the mission. In the series of tests conducted so far, ‘Aastra’ was completely released from SU-30 fighter aircraft. This air test is also important because it was the last part of the series of pre-tests. ‘Arsena’ is the best in missile weapon system and so far more than twenty tests have been done.

Defense Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman appreciated the efforts of the Indian Air Force, DRDO and team members involved in the mission. He said that India has achieved excellent capability in indigenous design and development of advanced weapon systems.

 

8.The mobile app launches mobile app ‘Jan Dhan Visitor’ under the financial inclusion of the Ministry of Finance, mobile app  :-

The Financial Services Department (DFS) of the Ministry of Finance and National Informatics Center (NIC) has developed a mobile app called ‘Jan Dhan Vishendra ‘ jointly under the Financial Inclusion (FI) initiative . As the name suggests, this mobile app will guide the general public in locating any ‘financial service touch point’ at any given location in the country.

The ‘Locator App’ is a common feature offered by many different banks and financial service providers, but in this era of inter-operative banking services, the ‘Jan Money Viewer’ app will be unique in that it will be available to banks, Financial services of all financial service providers, such as Post Offices, CSCs, will provide a focused platform for detecting touch points. The benefits of these services can be easily taken as per the requirements and facilities of the general public.

More than 5 lakh financial service touch points (bank branches , ATMs, post offices) have been mapped on this app . Along with this, approximately 1.35 lakh bank friends will be linked to this by December 01, 2018.

11.Fed raises interest rates, impaired mood of US market :-

The Federal Reserve increased the interest rate by 0.25 percent on Wednesday. Now interest rates have reached the level of April 2008 Now the coverage of the Fed fund rate has increased to 2-2.25%. US President Donald Trump does not seem happy with the Fed’s decision. Significantly, the interest rates have increased three times so far this year.

Whereas the Fed has removed the word ‘accommodative’ from the policy. FOMC has indicated another hike by the end of the year. Apart from this, the US Fed has extended economic outlook. The estimate for the year 2018 has been increased from 2.8 percent to 3.1 percent. Estimates for 2019 have been increased from 2.4 percent to 2.5 percent. At the same time, the GDP estimate for 2020 has been kept at 2%.

Trump is not happy with the Fed’s decision: US President Donald Trump has not been happy with the Fed’s decision. Trump told a press conference, “We are doing better as a country, unfortunately they increase interest rates because we are doing very well. I’m not happy with this decision.”
