1.Bengaluru hosted international meet on social justice :-

A three-day Babasaheb B.R. Ambedkar international conference on social justice was held in Bengaluru from July 21 to 23.

Organised by the Karnataka government, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, human rights advocate and activist Martin Luther King III, and various international and national speakers addressed about 2,000 participants at the conference.

 

2.Women’s World Cup: England beat India by nine runs in final :-

England completed a stunning fightback to beat India by nine runs and win the Women’s World Cup at an ecstatic Lord’s.

Chasing 229, India looked set for victory at 191-3, but Anya Shrubsole pinned Punam Raut lbw for 86 to spark a collapse of seven wickets for 28 runs.

This is the fourth World Cup title for England Women.

3.CCEA approves selling 51% stake in HPCL to ONGC :-

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved sale of government’s 51.11% stake along with management control in HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum) to ONGC.

HPCL will continue as PSU after the acquisition.

 

4.India witnessed third highest terror attacks in 2016: US :-

According to the Country Report on Terrorism released by the US State Department, India witnessed third highest number of terrorist attacks in 2016, more than Pakistan.

The six countries that faced highest number of terrorist attacks in 2016 are Iraq (2,965 terrorist attacks), Afghanistan (1,340), India (927), Pakistan (734), Philippines (482), Nigeria (466).

 

5.Iran, Iraq ink pact on military cooperation :-

Iran and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to step up military cooperation and the fight against terrorism and extremism.

The MoU encourages promotion of interaction and share of experiences in the fight against terrorism and extremism, border security, training and logistical, technical and military support between both countries.

 

6.HDFC Bank first quarter net profit increases 20% :-

HDFC Bank’s net profit rose 20% to ₹3,893.8 crore during the first quarter of the financial year FY18 in spite of the lender reporting higher non-performing assets (NPAs) mainly from its agricultural portfolio as farm loan waivers impacted recoveries.

 

7.H S Prannoy wins US Open Grand Prix Gold badminton title :-

Ace Indian Shuttler H S Prannoy won the 2017 Yonex US Open Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament title. It was his third grand prix gold title of badminton.

In the final match held at Anaheim, California, Prannoy defeated his compatriot Parupalli Kashyap by 21-15, 20-22, 21-12. In the women’s singles category of the tournament, Aya Ohori of Japan won the final by defeating Michelle Li of Canada.

 

8.India to host 2017 Global Conference on Cyber Space :-

India will host Global Conference on Cyber Space (GCCS) 2017, the world’s largest conference on cyber space and related issues in New Delhi in November 2017.

This is for the first time GCCS is taking place outside Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) nations. It will be the fifth edition the conference.

 

9.Over 15,000 people relocated in Gujarat :-

After Saurashtra, its now the turn of the North Gujarat region to bear the brunt of incessant rainfall.

Heavy flooding in several areas has forced the State authorities to shift people out of low lying areas. Several hundred stranded people have been rescued.

On Monday, the authorities relocated more than 15000 people in North Gujarat districts, mostly in Banaskantha, to safer areas.

The NDRF, Air Force, BSF and the Army were joined by other agencies in the rescue of more than 500 stranded people.

 

10.Vodafone India-Idea deal gets competition panel nod :-

India’s antitrust regulator has approved the merger of Vodafone Group Plc’s Indian unit with Idea Cellular, a lawyer representing Vodafone in the matter said on Monday.

In March, Vodafone India and Idea agreed to merge operations in a $23 billion deal, creating the country’s biggest telecom player after the entry of new entrant Reliance Jio sparked a price war.

The deal has been pending Competition Commission of India (CCI) approval, along with other regulatory clearances.
