India and Saudi Arabia  have   signed eight agreements  in various sectors including  energy, digitalization and investment . Both sides expressed happiness over the launch of the India-West Asia-Europe Corridor. Prime Minister Modi also congratulated Saudi Arabia on becoming a full member of the BRICS organization. Both sides expressed full support for the early implementation of the West Coast refinery projects. India and Saudi Arabia also agreed to accelerate negotiations on the India-Gulf Cooperation Council Free Trade Agreement. This agreement will go a long way in further strengthening the economic cooperation between the two sides. India and Saudi Arabia also agreed to enhance cooperation in the financial technology sector and explore possibilities of trade in local currencies.

2 Election Commissioner Shri Arun Goyal visits Maldives to observe Presidential Elections 2023

 At the invitation of  the Election Commission of Maldives , Election Commissioner Shri Arun Goyal  is leading a three-member delegation to Maldives to inspect the conduct of the Maldives  Presidential Elections, 2023 . The first round of elections was completed on September 9, 2023. Eight candidates are in the fray. Presidential elections, Constitution of Maldives, 2008; Elections (General) Act, 2008; The elections were conducted in accordance with the Presidential Elections Act, 2008 and the Presidential Election Rules and Regulations, 2008.

3 MoU signed between Indian Navy and Uber

Indian Navy  signed   a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with M/s Uber . On this occasion, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral  R Hari Kumar , NWWA President Smt. Kala Hari Kumar and Mr. Abhinav Mittu, Senior Country Manager, Uber Business in India, South Asia and Egypt were also present. The objective of this MoU is to provide reliable, convenient, safe and economical vehicle facility for personal travel and movement of Naval personnel and their families across the country. This MoU is in line with CNS’s vision of ‘Happy Personnel’ under ‘Ship First’ and is a first in the Armed Forces. It will serve to advance the Government of India’s ‘Digital India’ vision of harnessing technology for transformational change.

4 12 scientists selected for Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award for the year 2022

The country’s top annual science awards, the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awards,  have been announced today after a gap of two years. This year,  12 scientists  will   be given awards in seven categories. CSIR Director General Dr. N. Kalaiselvi announced the awards for the year 2022 in the presence of Union Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh. Named after Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, the first Director of CSIR, these awards are   given in seven science disciplines – Physics, Biology, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine, Chemistry and Earth Sciences. This award is given every year to scientists below 45 years of age. In this, a prize of five lakh rupees and a citation is given.

5 NTPC Green Energy Limited to collaborate with Nayara Energy for green hydrogen production

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a  wholly owned subsidiary of   NTPC Limited , India’s leading integrated power generation company, and Nayara Energy,  an international new age downstream energy company,   have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Its objective is to explore opportunities in the green hydrogen and green energy sector. The MOU envisages collaboration to produce green hydrogen for Nayara Energy’s own use, accelerate decarbonization and reduce carbon emissions. This collaboration is being undertaken at the initiative of NTPC to develop hydrogen projects in India and is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of a self-reliant India.

6 US and Vietnam sign agreement to expand semiconductor ecosystem capacity in Hanoi

The United States  and  Vietnam  have signed a semiconductor supply chain agreement  to expand the capacity of  the semiconductor ecosystem in Hanoi  in support of US industry  . The US and Vietnam also announced the launch of a comprehensive workforce development initiative in Vietnam that will jointly develop hands-on learning laboratories and training courses for semiconductor assembly, testing and packaging. The US government will provide an initial funding of US$2 million to launch the initiative.

7 Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupts again

The US Geological Survey (USGS ) has reported that  the Kilauea volcano  on  Hawaii’s Big Island  erupted. The flow of this volcano is currently limited to the surrounding craters. The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency said the volcano’s eruption would not pose a threat to people from lava flows. The USGS said the volcano’s eruption was preceded by intense earthquakes and rapid growth of the volcano’s summit.

8 DoT launches scheme to recognize Internet service providers for their efforts in expanding home broadband fiber connections in rural areas

 The Department  of Telecommunications  has launched a scheme to recognize Internet Service Providers for their efforts  in expanding  home broadband fiber connections in rural areas . The Ministry of Communications has said that under this scheme , it has been decided to recognize nine Internet service providers  providing maximum number of connections in rural areas in a year. These service providers include three each in categories A, B and C. Under this recognition, a certificate will be given to the Internet service provider and its name will be displayed on the website of the Department of Telecommunications. The ministry has said that this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to increase connectivity and digital access in rural areas.

9 Government launches One Week One Lab program to showcase achievements of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research

Science and Technology Minister  Dr Jitendra Singh  launched   the One Week One Lab program  in  New Delhi . During the event, laboratories of 37 scientific and industrial research councils spread across the country will showcase their research results and achievements. In this, visitors can visit the departments of the ministry and see its educational and research initiatives. There will also be lectures, workshops, puppet shows, Vigyan Kavi Sammelan, quizzes and exhibitions on various topics related to science.

10 Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh launches “Mission Intensive Indradhanush” 5.0 in Mohali

Punjab  Health Minister  Balbir Singh launched  ” Mission Intensive Indradhanush ”  5.0  from Dr. BR Ambedkar Medical College,  Mohali  . Earlier it was planned for August along with the rest of the country. But it got delayed due to the flood situation in the state. Mission Indradhanush  provides vaccination against 12 vaccine-preventable diseases-VPDs – i.e. diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, meningitis and pneumonia, Haemophilus influenzae.

11 In Madhya Pradesh, the ex-gratia amount given to the families of martyred Forest Department employees was increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.

In  Madhya Pradesh  , the grant amount  to  the forest department employees who lost their lives while protecting forests and wildlife has been  increased from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. Chief Minister  Shivraj Singh Chouhan  made   this announcement at the inauguration of the State Forest Martyr Memorial  in  Bhopal . He said that Forest Department employees will also be given Rs 5,000 as uniform allowance and Rs 1,000 as nutritious food allowance. The Chief Minister honored the families of 44 martyred forest personnel.

12 BRO will build the world’s highest fighter airfield

The Border Roads Organization (BRO)  has   announced plans to build the world’s highest fighter airfield  in  the Nyoma area  of  ​​Ladakh . Defense Minister Rajnath Singh  will lay the foundation stone of this project from Devak Bridge  on   September 12 . BRO aims to enhance India’s infrastructure along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), with the aim of overtaking China in infrastructure development along the LAC in the next years. The creation of combat airfields in Ladakh is strategically important as it enhances India’s defense capabilities and infrastructure in the border area, contributing to better connectivity and security.

13 Will be launched on Vishwakarma Day on 17th September

Vishwakarma Yojana  will be launched on  September 17 at 70 locations  across  India. The initiative, announced during the Independence Day speech at the Red Fort, aims to  benefit individuals skilled in traditional craftsmanship  . The scheme will be inaugurated by Union Ministers in all the states and union territories, in which 70 ministers from across the country will participate. Over the next five years, this program will allocate an expenditure of Rs 13,000 crore  focusing on grassroots level welfare for the working class. Vishwakarma Yojana is an initiative that aims to empower individuals skilled in traditional craftsmanship. Its primary objective is to provide financial assistance, training and welfare assistance to workers in various sectors.

14 Chief Minister Ladli Brahmin Housing Scheme

The Madhya Pradesh government has changed the name of  the state-run housing scheme, earlier   known as  Mukhyamantri Antyodaya Awas Yojana , to Mukhyamantri Laadli Behna Awas Yojana  .  This decision, taken with the aim of aligning with Chief Minister  Shivraj Singh  Chouhan  ‘s  Ladli Brahmin Yojana, was unanimously approved by the state cabinet. Additionally, the Cabinet approved proposals to increase the monthly honorarium for cooks working under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman Yojana and doubling the honorarium for guest teachers in various classes. The government also announced subsidy on LPG for women along with payments under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and Laadli Behna during the month of Shravan.

15 Madhya Pradesh approves mob lynching victim compensation scheme

Madhya Pradesh  Cabinet   has approved the Mob Lynching Victim Compensation Scheme, which aims to provide  compensation and relief to the victims and their dependents in cases of mob violence  . The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance and support to the victims and their families who have suffered loss or injury due to mob violence on various grounds. The decision to approve the scheme was taken in compliance with the Supreme Court directions issued in July 2018, which called for the establishment of a Lynching/Mob Violence Victim Compensation Scheme by State Governments. Under this scheme, interim relief should also be provided to the victims or their families within 30 days of the incident.

16 NASA’s MOXIE instrument successfully produces oxygen on Mars

NASA  announced   the successful completion of its Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment (MOXIE)  aboard the Perseverance Mars Rover  . MOXIE’s success is an important step toward enabling astronauts to “live off the ground” on Mars by producing their own oxygen and rocket propellant, supporting long-term exploration and sustainability on the Red Planet. MOXIE, a device approximately the size of a microwave oven, has demonstrated its ability to convert Martian  carbon dioxide (CO2) into oxygen  . This breakthrough technology could play a key role in future human missions to Mars, providing a sustainable source of breathable air and rocket propellant.

17 United Nations releases The Gender Snapshot 2023 Report

The United Nations  has released a report stating that  the goal of achieving gender equality by 2030 set by the United Nations  is unlikely to be realized  due to deep-rooted biases against women in various sectors such as health, education, employment and politics  . The Gender Snapshot 2023” The report highlights that active resistance to gender equality and chronic underinvestment are key factors slowing progress and even causing reversals in some cases. Issues such as unequal access to sexual and reproductive health, low political representation, economic inequalities and lack of legal protection contribute to this challenge. The report also focuses on the setbacks for women and girls in conflict-affected areas and the adverse effects of climate change.

18 Minuteman 3 missile tested

The US Air Force  recently   successfully test-fired Minuteman 3 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from Vandenberg Air Force Base   in  California . Although the test was routine, its timing was criticized amid rising tensions between the US and North Korea. Minuteman 3 missile test confirms US operational readiness. These tests maintain the credibility of the deterrent, signaling America’s credible nuclear power to potential adversaries.

19 Novak Djokovic won the 24th Grand Slam title by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the US Open tennis tournament.

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic  has created history by winning  his  twenty-fourth  Grand Slam title  in  the US Open tennis competition . In the men’s singles final, Djokovic   defeated Russia’s Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. With this victory, Djokovic has equaled Margaret Court’s record of winning 24 Grand Slam titles. In women’s doubles, New Zealand’s Erin Routliff and Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski won the title by defeating Germany and Russia’s Laura Siegemund and Vera Zoraneva 7-6, 6-3.

20 10 September: World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day  was   observed on 10 September . This day is celebrated every year to highlight the many ways to prevent suicide. It was  first   marked on September 10, 2003 as an initiative by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP)  in collaboration with  the World Health Organization (WHO) . After a successful first year, WHO agreed to formally co-sponsor the event again in 2004 and made it an annually recognized day. In 2011, around 40 countries held awareness events to mark the occasion. IASP organizes several events or programs in 60 countries to mark this day.
