1.India and Maldives concluded joint military exercises in Belagavi :-

The two-week joint military exercise , ‘ Auverin ‘ , concludes on Thursday in Bellagavi , 505 km from Bangalore and India between the Maldives . In the Maldive language,  ‘ auverin ‘means ‘ friend ‘ .     

The bilateral annual military exercise was a 14-day joint military training between the Indian Army and the National Defense Force of the Maldives-MNDF , which is being held in India and Maldives alternately since 2009.    

MNDF was represented by a team which consisted of two officers and 43 other ranks, while the Gorkha Rifle Battalion (Sirmore Rifles) officers and the same number of junior commissioned officers and 39 other ranks officers from the Indian Army participated. .

 

2.The government has said that India needs to be in constant touch on the issue of rivers flowing in both countries with China to protect its national interest :-

The government has said that India needs to stay in touch with China on the issue of rivers flowing in both countries to protect its national interest. Minister of State for External Affairs V.K. Singh told in the Rajya Sabha yesterday that India has the right to use the waters of rivers flowing through the two countries. Regarding the reports of plans to build a thousand kilometers of tunnel from China to change the water stream of Brahmaputra river, Mr. Singh said that China has publicly denied such reports that came in the media. The government has made China aware of its thoughts and concerns.

Minister of State for External Affairs said that China has told India on many occasions that it will use the water of the Brahmaputra river for hydel projects and there is no need to change the water stream for this.

 

3.India successfully tested advanced advanced supersonic interceptor missile in indigenous :-

India successfully tested advanced supersonic interceptor missile developed indigenously in India on Thursday, from Integrated Testing Center, Chandipur, Odisha. This missile is capable of hitting any ballistic missile of the enemy coming on very low altitude. With this test, India has become the fourth country in the world to have a ballistic missile defense system.  

According to our correspondent, “Integrated Testing Center created a target from the third launch test of the ITR, and the earth missiles were erected at 9.41 in the morning. After getting signal from radar after about two minutes, this interceptor missile was sacked from the advanced air defense range on Abdul Kalam Island, 30 kilometers away in the coastal area of Odisha. Missile missiles went on the direction and height of the missile and destroyed it in the middle. Scientists and officials of Defense Research Development Organization DRDO, who are watching the launch, said that during today’s test flight various parameters of interceptor were verified and they were all successful. With this effective anti-ballistic system, India, after Russia, USA and Russia, has become the fourth country in the world with ballistic missile defense system “.  

 

4.Pakistan released 145 Indian fishermen arrested for allegedly fishing in their maritime area, Sri Lanka ordered 69 Indian fishermen to leave :-

Pakistan released 145 Indian fishermen on Thursday. These were allegedly arrested while fishing in Pakistan’s water sector. According to PTI, Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Dr. Mohammed Faizal had said that 291 Indian fishermen would be released in two phases till January 8.

The Sri Lankan government has also ordered the release of 69 fishermen arrested in the sea for theft of hidden fish. These will be sent to India in the next few days.

 

5.External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Jordan Foreign Minister Aman al-Safadi discussed the strengthening of mutual relations in the bilateral meeting :-

In the bilateral meeting between Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and Jordan Foreign Minister Aman al-Safadi yesterday, discussions have been made to strengthen mutual relations in different areas. Mr. Safadi talked on measures to expand and strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, defense and security and mutual contact between people of both the countries.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ravi Kumar said in a tweet that the relationship between the two countries has been close and well-meaning and both countries have similar opinion on regional and international issues.

 

6.Government will take additional loan of Rs 50 thousand crore from the market in the current financial year :-

The Government has decided to take additional loan of Rs. 50 thousand crore through timely securities in the current financial year. After reviewing the loan plan with the Reserve Bank, it was decided that by March 2018, the government will reduce the recovery of such short-term securities i.e. T. Bills 86 thousand two hundred and thirty crores to 25 thousand six crore rupees. It is notable that in the budget of 2017-18, under the gross market borrowing, five lakh eighty thousand crore rupees and net market borrowings totaled four lakh twenty five thousand crore rupees. Rs. 3,48,000 crore through periodical government securities and Rs. 2002 crore through T-bills are being raised.

 

7.Maharashtra government orders inquiry into Mumbai fire incident :-

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an inquiry into the Kamla Mill complex fire incident in Lower Parel area of central Mumbai. In this fire, 14 people have been killed. The Chief Minister said on the tweeter that he had asked the Municipal Commissioner of Municipal Corporation to investigate the incident and take action against the guilty people.

The Mumbai Police has registered an FIR in this regard. Twenty injured people have been admitted to different hospitals. Officials of KEM Hospital have confirmed that people died due to knee injury. The condition of the two wounded is serious. Broadcasting of the TV channel Nine and the Hindi channel and the surrounding buildings were also affected by the fire in the premises.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed deep condolences over the tragedy.
