1.Goa celebrates its statehood day:-Goa is celebrating its statehood day today. It was on this day in 1987 Goa became the 25th state of the Indian Union. Before this, Goa, along with Daman and Diu, was a union territory. Statehood helped in shaping Goa’s distinct identity.At the Goa statehood day programme in Panaji today, Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant, in a video message, said, it’s a day to reflect on people’s achievements and evolve a strategy to achieve the much-desired status of a prosperous and advanced state.He appealed to the youth to opt for skill education, encouraged businesses to avail of new policies and central government schemes, and assured that ongoing projects such as Mopa airport will provide significant employment opportunities to Goans.Mr Sawant stressed on making Goa garbage-free withthelaunch of the Green Goa, Clean Goa awareness campaign. Programmes have been organized across the state including Margao in South Goa.

2.Narendra Modi takes oath as PM for second term:-National Democratic Alliance leader Narendra Modi was sworn in as Prime Minister for the second consecutive term yesterday. President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of Office and Secrecy to him and a team of 57 ministers at a glittering ceremony on the forecourts of the Rashtrapati Bhawan just before sunset.Besides 24 Cabinet ministers including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Irani, and Piyush Goyal, nine were sworn in as Minister of State with Independent charge and another 24 as Minister of State.One-third of the total ministers in the Cabinet are first-timers,  including BJP president Amit Shah and former Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. Two former Chief Ministers – Ramesh Pokhriyal from Uttarakhand and Arjun Munda from Jharkhand – have taken oath as Union ministers for the first time. This will be the first innings for six Cabinet ministers and 13 Ministers of State. BJP’s Prahlad Joshi and Shiv Sena’s Arvind Sawant will also become Union ministers for the first time. The new Modi  Government has the maximum representation of 10 faces from Uttar Pradesh, followed by seven from Maharashtra,  six from Bihar and four from Madhya Pradesh. It also has three ministers each from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Karnataka followed by two each from West Bengal and Odisha. Portfolios for the new ministers have not been announced yet.The function was attended by leaders from BIMSTEC countries and foreign envoys, Governors, Chief Ministers, Opposition leaders, corporate heads and film stars.

Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dr Lotay Tshering, Prime Minister of Nepal, K P Sharma Oli, Special Envoy of Thailand, Grisada Boonrach, President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth witnessed the event. Key leaders of the Opposition who were present at the event were Congress President Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described his new council of ministers as a blend of youthful energy and administrative experience.After President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the council of ministers, the Prime Minister said in a tweet that it has people who have excelled as parliamentarians and those who have had distinguished professional careers.The Prime Minister further said that they would work together for India’s progress.In Sri Lanka, the taking over of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his second consecutive term has been greeted across the political and social spectrum.Minister Mano Ganeshan greeted Mr. Modi on behalf of all Sri Lankan and Tamils of Indian origin saying they are happy to join the proud moment. Sri Lankan media has projected Mr. Modi’s leadership as positive development for the region saying it will help embattle the menace of terrorism in the region.Prime Minister is scheduled to make a short trip to Sri Lanka next week to express solidarity with the victims of Easter Sunday attacks and to reinforce his ‘Neighbourhood first’ policy.

Two engineering students of Bhilai have prepared such bone conduction equipment, so that the hearing impediments will also be able to easily hear the surrounding sound as normal people. This small size device will be worn in the wrist as a clock, so that its contact can be with bones. It will also be very useful for the troops, who are connected to the authorities through headphones during the operation and can not hear the surrounding voice. The talent of the students is that ISRO’s retired scientists are cooperating with it. The special thing is that in the US, the machines manufactured with this technology are very expensive, this machine will be available in the market for only Rs. 1,000. Students have also patented it.Student Jaideep Tiwari and K. Kartik said that the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) had organized national competition. In this, his invention, Bon Conductance, got a million rupees for the first prize. Mr. Sudarshan Nattu, Vice President of ISRO’s retired scientist Deepak Bhopatkar and Mater, Pune Harmon Technology, is collaborating with him to work on this invention. Within four months this device will come in the market. They are working on this device in the Lab Central of Excellant in COE related to the World Bank.

 4.Record 78 women MPs elected to 17th Lok Sabha:-

Record 78 women candidates have been elected to the Lok Sabha in the recently held general elections.According to the Election Commission, the number has grown from the previous 62 women who were elected to the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014.In the country’s first general elections in 1951, twenty-four women were elected to the Lower House, and since then, the number has been increasing.

 5.India Moves up to rank 43 in competitiveness:-

India has moved up one place to rank 43rd most competitive economy in the world on the back of its robust economic growth.Singapore has toppled the US to grab the top position.Singapore has moved up to the top, from the third position last year, while the US has slipped to the third place in the 2019 edition of the IMD World Competitiveness Rankings.

6.Trump announces tariffs on all Mexico goods:-US President Donald Trump has announced tariffs on all goods coming from Mexico in a bid to curb illegal immigration.In a tweet, Mr Trump said that from 10 June a five per cent tariff would be imposed and slowly raised until the Illegal Immigration problem is remedied.President Trump has declared a national emergency to tackle what he claims is a crisis at the US southern border.Border agents say they are overwhelmed, but critics say they are mishandling and mistreating migrants. Jesus Seade, Mexico’s top diplomat for North America, said the tariffs would be disastrous.

7.India concludes best ever ISSF WC performance in Munich:-In Shooting, India produced their best ever show at the ISSF World Cup with a total tally of five gold medals in Munich, Germany.India topped the medals tally with five golds and a silver. Second-placed China bagged nine medals – two gold, two silver and five bronze medals.India gold medallists included Apurvi Chandela in the Women’s 10 metre Air Rifle, Rahi Sarnobat in the Women’s 25m Pistol and Saurabh Chaudhary in the men’s 10m Air Pistol, besides the Mixed Team titles won on the last day today.The pair of Anjum Moudgil and Divyansh Singh Panwar first won the 10m Air Rifle mixed team gold. Teenage pair of Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary backed them up with the 10m Air Pistol mixed team title.They rounded off a dominating show by the Indian squad at the year’s third International Shooting Sport Federation world cup stage.In the Mixed Air Rifle, it was an all India gold medal match and Apurvi Chandela and Deepak Kumar landed the country its lone silver, going down to their compatriots 2-16.In the Air Pistol competition, Manu and Saurabh also topped the 76-team field with a score of 586 and then doing an encore in round two with an even better 591.World record holder Saurabh shot a 100 in his last series.
