1.Two new Ramsar sites added in India

The Government of India has recently added two new Ramsar sites . These sites were added on World Wetlands Day . World Wetlands Day is celebrated all over the world on 2 February . Bakhira Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh and Khijadia Bird Sanctuary in Gujarathas been added to this list. These are the 48th and 49th Ramsar sites of India. Earlier the 47th Ramsar site was Haiderpur Wetland in Uttar Pradesh. Bakhira Wildlife Sanctuary is the largest natural flood plain wetland in India. A floodplain is a wetland, that part of a river valley that periodically fills with water. This sanctuary is situated in the west of Gorakhpur. It is a breeding ground for resident birds and a staging site for a number of migratory birds. Khijadia Bird Sanctuary It is located in Jamnagar, Gujarat. More than 300 migratory birds visit this sanctuary. It consists of freshwater marshlands, freshwater lakes and saltwater marshlands. It is fed by the Ruparel River. It also has creeks that support mangroves. It is situated in the Gulf of Kutch region. There are 52 tiger reserves in India. With two new Ramsar sites, There are now 49 Ramsar sites in India. Also, there are two Blue Tag Beaches in India.

2.India Press Freedom Report, 2021 released

The India Press Freedom Report, 2021 was recently released by the Rights and Risks Analysis Group . According to this report, 13 media houses and newspapers were targeted in the country, 108 journalists were attacked and 6 journalists were killed . Most journalist attacks in Jammu and Kashmirhappened in Journalists faced more than 25 attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. In second place was Uttar Pradesh with 23 strikes. UP is followed by Madhya Pradesh (16), Tripura (15), Delhi (8), Bihar (6), Assam (5), Haryana (4) and Maharashtra (4), Goa (3), Manipur (3), Karnataka (2), West Bengal (2), Tamil Nadu (2), Andhra Pradesh (1), Kerala (1), Chhattisgarh (1). Most of the attacks took place in Jammu and Kashmir. Tripura, on the other hand, saw the maximum number of attacks by non-state elements. Eight women journalists faced summons, FIR and arrest. 24 journalists were physically assaulted, disrupted, threatened and harassed for doing their jobs. 44 FIRs were registered against journalists in 2021. Of these, 21 were registered under section 153 of the IPC.

3.Government of India announces ‘One Nation One Registration’ scheme

During the budget presentation , the Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman launched the ‘ One Nation One Registration  scheme . This will make it easier to do business and improve living conditions. This scheme will bring uniform registration process across the country. Where the registration is being done, whether it is land registration or vehicle registration or any other registration, the same process will be followed across the country. Registration can be done anywhere in the country. There will be no state constraint. It will adopt 3C formula. It focuses on Central of Records, Convenience of Records and Collection of Records . A 14-digit unique number will be allotted to the land. This number is called “ Aadhaar number of land“Will be called. To implement this scheme, the government will link the National Generic Document Registration System with the ‘One Nation One Registration’ scheme. DILRMP stands for Digital India Land Record Modernization Program . Under this programme, the Government of India has so far digitized 90% of the land records in the country. This has been achieved in 24 states. It was launched as the National Land Records Modernization Program in 2008. Recently the Modi government has changed its name to DILRMP.

4.Central Government set up National Land Monetization Corporation

5.Dr. Madan Mohan Tripathi takes over as Director General, National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology

Dr. Madan Mohan Tripathi took over as the Director General of National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) . The institute is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology , Government of India. Prior to joining NIELIT, Dr. Madan Mohan Tripathi was working as Professor at Delhi Technological University (DTU), New Delhi. At DTU, he also worked as the Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Coordinator of Intellectual Property Rights Cell.

6.Announcement to launch RAMP program with an estimated cost of Rs.6,000 crore

In the Union Budget 2022-23 , the Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman has announced to launch the RAMP program with an estimated cost of Rs.6,000 crore . The RAMP program will be implemented for a period of 5 years. RAMP stands for Raising and Accelerating MSME PerformanceThere is a recovery program that aims to improve the condition of MSMEs in India. The MSME sector has been badly affected by the lock down due to the COVID pandemic. It will increase the productivity of MSMEs by providing better access to finance. Also, it will revive the sector by increasing the competitiveness in the MSMEs sector. 40% of MSMEs in India do not have access to finance. MSMEs are the backbone of the Indian economy. They contribute 40% to the country’s exports and 30% of the GDP. This will present a solution to the liquidity problem. Presently the lenders are concerned about the repayment of loan by the borrowers which is limiting and reducing the flow of credit to the MSME sector. This program will reduce the risk of lending by non-banking financial institutions and banks. This will strengthen the small finance banks. This will increase the financing capacity of market oriented channels. It will also boost the refinance facilities of the Government of India. Presently only 8% of MSMEs are provided loans.

7.Andhra Pradesh launches CLAP campaign

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has launched the “ Clean Andhra Pradesh ( CLAP ) – Jagannath Swachh Sankalp Programme ” on October 2, 2021 .) is introduced. The government has launched the CLAP program for cleaning rural areas, improving sanitary conditions and waste management with public participation. Under this campaign, rural households are advised not to dump garbage on the roads and instead hand it over to the garbage collector. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had flagged off 4,097 garbage collection vehicles to start this campaign. As of November 2021, garbage collection from rural households was 22%. By January 2022 it had reached 61.50%. Many gram panchayat officials are already sharing pictures of garbage free village roads and streets. The Gram Panchayat will achieve all the targets under the CLAP programme, which includes 100% rural household waste collection.

9.Interim ban on provision of 75 percent reservation in jobs to residents of Haryana in private sector

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has given an interim stay on the provision of 75 per cent reservation in jobs to residents of Haryana in the private sector . The state government had enacted the ‘ Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Act 2020 ‘ Act, which was notified on November 6 last year and was to come into force on January 15, 2022, this year to give reservation to the residents of Haryana. The Faridabad Industries Association had filed a petition in the court against the Act. This act is applicable to jobs paying maximum gross monthly salary or salary of Rs.30 thousand. Under this, the violation of any provision is considered a punishable offense.

12.First voyage of fifth Scorpene submarine ‘Vagir’

The fifth submarine of Project 75, Yard 11879 in the Indian Navy ‘s Kalvari class , commenced its sea trial voyage on February 1, 2022. The submarine was launched from Kanhoji Angre Wet Basin of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in November 2020 . After commissioning, this submarine will be named Vagir . Despite the COVID pandemic, MDL has ‘delivered’ two submarines of Project-75 in the year 2021 and commencement of sea trials of the fifth submarine is an important milestone. The submarine will now undergo intensive tests of all its systems at sea, including propulsion systems, weapons and sensors. After the completion of these trials, the submarine is scheduled to be handed over to the Indian Navy in the year 2022.

On February 1, 2022, SpaceX launched Italy’s Earth-observing satellite, Cosmo-SkyMed Second Generation FM2 (CSG-2) . It was launched from a station in Florida , USA . Constellation of Small Satellites for Mediterranean basin Observation (COSMO)-CSG-2, COSMO-SkyMed (CSK)The satellite has a follow-up mission. The satellite will monitor the Earth and provide data for risk management, forest and environmental protection, cartography, natural resource exploration, defense and protection, land management, food and agriculture management and marine surveillance. The system consists of two satellites, which are designed to observe the Earth using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). The SkyMed Second Generation (CSG) satellite is developed by the Italian Ministry of Defense and the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Scientific Research.

15.Security of Indian trains to be enhanced through Railways’ Kavach technology

16.Government of India will launch e-passport

Government of India will launch e-passport by 2022-23 . This will help in enhancing the convenience of the citizens. This was announced by the Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman during the budget presentation. A tiny silicon chip in an e-passportit occurs. It is embedded within the jacket of the passport. The memory of this chip is 64 KB. This chip holds the personal information of the holder. It also includes his signature. This chip can store 30 visits. In later stages, the passport will contain the photograph of the holder and his/her biometric data. These passports have thick front and back cover. The e-passport should contain the same information as a traditional passport. E-passports are currently used in 120 countries. This includes Germany, America, UK. All these three countries have biometric e-passport systems. That is, only through fingerprint or retinal identification, the person’s passport is verified.

17.Declaration of setting up of Desh-stack e-portal

24.Government is implementing Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Welfare Fund scheme for sportspersons

Youth Program and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that the government is implementing Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Welfare Fund scheme for sportspersons . In this scheme, there is a provision of financial assistance for medical treatment, purchase of sports equipment, participation in national and international events to outstanding sportspersons. Financial assistance is provided to eligible sportspersons on the basis of applications from this fund. Financial assistance of more than Rs 2 crore 54 lakh has been given to 78 players and former players and coaches from April 2020 to January this year.
