1.Indian diplomat Amandeep Gill appointed as UN Secretary General’s envoy on technology

The UN Secretary-General has appointed senior Indian diplomat Amandeep Singh Gill as his envoy on the matter of technology. The United Nations has described Gill as “a thought leader on digital technology” who has a solid understanding of how to leverage digital transformation in a responsible and inclusive manner to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Gill, who was India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva from 2016 to 2018, is the Chief Executive Officer of the International Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence Research Collaborative (I-DAIR) project at the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.

2.UNCTAD’s World Investment Report: India ranked 7th

Recently, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has released its annual ‘World Investment Report’. Despite a 30% decline in ‘foreign direct investment’ (FDI) in the country, India is at the seventh position. The United States continues to be the top recipient of FDI ($367 billion). China ($181 billion) and Hong Kong ($141 billion) also retained the second and third positions respectively in the list of FDI recipients. Among the top 10 FDI recipient economies, only India has seen a decline in inflows. However, outward FDI from India has increased by 43 percent to $15.5 billion in 2021.

3.NJ Ojha appointed as MGNREGA Lokpal

NJ Ojha has been appointed as the Lokpal under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme for two years. Ojha has the power to inquire into, consider the allegations made by MGNREGA employees, award them within 30 days of the receipt of the complaint.

4.Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Switzerland become members of UNSC

Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland have been elected as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for a term of 2023-24 . These countries will replace India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico and Norway from January 1 next year. Switzerland (187 votes) and Malta (185 votes) were elected to the two seats in the Western Europe and other countries category. Mozambique (192 votes) and Japan (184 votes) were elected to two seats in the African and Asia-Pacific countries, and Ecuador was elected with 190 votes for one seat in the Latin American and Caribbean countries category. Mozambique will become a member of the Security Council for the first time.

5.India’s first corona vaccine developed for animals ‘Anokovax’ launched

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar released the country’s first corona vaccine ‘ Anokovax ‘ developed for animals . This enokovax vaccine has been developed by the Haryana – based ICAR-National Research Center on Equines (NRC) . Encovax is an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 delta (COVID-19) vaccine for animals. The immunity induced by enokovax neutralizes both the delta and omicron forms of SARS-CoV-2.

6.Andhra Pradesh government launched YSR Yantra Seva Scheme

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh , YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has launched the YSR Yantra Seva Scheme and flagged off the distribution of tractors and combine harvesters at the Chuttugunta Center in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister YS Jagan Reddy flagged off the state level mega distribution of Tractors and Combine Harvesters under YSR Yantra Seva Pathakam at Guntur. Around 3,800 tractors and 320 combined harvesters will be made available at Rythu Bharosa Centers (RBKs) across AP. A subsidy of Rs 175 crore has been deposited in the bank accounts of 5260 farmer groups. Andhra Pradesh government aims to set up a total of 10,750 YSR Yantra Seva Kendras (CHCs).

7.Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launches Polyversity- India’s Largest Educational Metaverse and India Blockchain Network

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) became the first accreditation body in the world to have its own office in the metaverse . Information Data Systems Inc. (IDS) unveiled AICTE’s vision in the metaverse at an event. In the same program, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also launched an educational metaverse , Polyversity . Michigan, USA based IT Services and IT Consulting company Information Data Systems (IDS) has unveiled Bharat Blockchain Network (BBN) (Academic Blockchain Consortium) and Polyversity (Educational Metaverse).

8.Renowned industrialist Ratan Tata conferred with the honorary degree of D-Lit.

Eminent industrialist Ratan Tata was conferred with the honorary degree of D-Litt by the Governor of Maharashtra , Bhagat Singh Koshyari . This title was conferred on Mr. Ratan Tata by HSNC at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. Awarded at the first special convocation of the University . The Governor said that the honor of Ratan Tata is the honor of the entire Tata family and the Tata group. He said that by taking the degree of D-Litt, Ratan Tata has brought laurels to the university and the people present at the function.

9.A team of NMA will visit Arunachal Pradesh from June 14 to identify new sites of the state for inclusion in the central list of protected monuments

The entire team of National Monuments Authority will visit the ancient monuments especially those located near the border of Tibet-China region of Arunachal Pradesh from 14th to 18th June, 2022 . Apart from this, the team will also meet local tribal leaders and explore the ancient indigenous places of faith that connect Arunachal Pradesh with other parts of the country through legends and oral history. This team of authority will consist of Chairman Shri Tarun Vijay besides two members- Shri Hemraj Kamdarand and Professor Kailash Rao.

10.Thailand government declares hemp legal

Keeping and cultivating cannabis in Thailand will no longer be considered as a crime because recently the government there has declared it legal . However, its use in the form of smoking in public is still prohibited. Thailand, located in Southeast Asia, which is known for its strict narcotics/drug laws, has become the first country in Asia to take such a step. Thailand, with a year-round tropical climate, has a long history with hemp/cannabis/cannabis commonly used as traditional medicine by the local people. Marijuana is a psychoactive drug derived from the cannabis plant that is used for medical, recreational and religious purposes. Cannabis can be used by smoking, vaporizing, with food, or in the form of an extract.

11.RBI cancels license of Mudhol Co-op Bank, Karnataka

The Reserve Bank of India has canceled the license of “The Mudhol Co-Operative Bank Ltd., Bagalkot (Karnataka)”, thus barring it from repayment of deposits and acceptance of fresh funds. Announcing the cancellation of the license, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said that the bank does not have enough capital and earning potential. The RBI also said that the bank with its current financial position would be unable to make full payments to its existing depositors.

12.2nd edition of DSDP Excellence Awards held in New Delhi

In New Delhi , the 2nd edition of Awards for Excellence in District Skill Development Scheme, DSDP was held in which top 30 districts of the region were recognized for their unique best practices in skill development. The top three districts in the competition were Rajkot in Gujarat, Cachar in Assam and Satara in Maharashtra. District Collectors, District Magistrates and other officers from 30 states participated in the award ceremony to share their views and experiences as well as showcase the skill development work done by the respective districts at the grassroots level.

13.ICICI Bank ties up with ZestMoney

ICICI Bank has announced that it has partnered with digital EMI/pay-later platform ZestMoney to extend its ‘ Cardless EMI ‘ facility for purchases across retail and e-commerce platforms . This partnership enhances the ability of the Bank’s customers who can use pre-approved cardless credit to purchase products/services instantly using ZestMoney and take care of the cost in Equated Monthly Installments (EMIs).

14.China released the world’s most detailed map of the moon

China ‘s space agency CSNA has prepared the most detailed map of the Moon . All the craters and shapes of the moon have been included in this map. That too with their exact location. With the help of this map, scientists will be able to study the moon in a better way in the future. It will also help in landing the astronauts, rovers and landers going to the moon on the surface of neighboring satellites. The new comprehensive geological map of the Moon released by China is of 1:2,500,000 scale. This is the most detailed moon map ever made. Earlier, the Astrogeology Science Center of the US Geological Survey (USGS) made a map of the Moon in the year 2020. At that time that map was being called the most detailed map. Scientists from the US space agency NASA and the Lunar Planetary Institute helped in this work. Its scale was 1:5000000.

15.NCPCR to observe Child Labor Elimination Week from 12th to 20th June

National Commission for Protection of Child Rights-NCPCR is celebrating Child Labor Elimination Week at 75 places in connection with the World Day Against Child Labour . During this, rescue operations will be conducted at 75 places where children are being made labour. In this work, the help of State Commission, District Authority, Child Welfare Committee and other organizations will be taken. The NCPCR has prepared a draft Standard Operating Procedure-SOP based on the provisions of the Children’s Acts to deal with the situation of child labor and its aftermath. Efforts are also underway to facilitate the process of inquiry about the victims of child labor and to save them from the clutches of child labor.

16.India’s Akanksha Vyavahare wins silver medal in Youth Weightlifting World Championship

India’s Akanksha Vyavahare has won a silver medal at the Youth Weightlifting World Championships . In Mexico, Akanksha won the medal in the women’s 40 kg category by lifting a total of 127 kg. In the snatch, Akanksha stood first by lifting 59 kg. In clean and jerk, Akanksha secured the third position by lifting 68 kg.

17.12 June: World Day for the Prohibition of Child Labor

Every year, World Day for the Prohibition of Child Labor is observed on 12 June . It was launched by the International Labor Organization. World Child Labor Prohibition Day was started in 2002. Children in the age group of 5 to 17 years engaged in work are deprived of a normal childhood, proper health care, adequate education, free time and basic freedoms. This is the basic purpose of marking the World Day Against Child Labour. Theme of 2022: Universal social protection to end child labour .

18.Russia Day: 12 June

In Russia , on 12 June 1991, the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Russian Federation was adopted. This day is also known as Russia Day. The Declaration of Sovereignty of the State of Russia was signed by the leaders of the Soviet Union on 12 June 1990. It marked the beginning of democratic reforms in Russia and the first step towards the official dissolution of the Soviet Union.
