Here, we are talking about Bharti’s first woman astronaut Kalpana Chawla. She was the second Indian to travel to space. Before them, Rakesh Sharma had a flight in 1984 in the Soviet spacecraft. Kalpana’s family loved him by calling him Montu He was the youngest of four brothers and sisters. One particular thing about Kalpana is that he had expressed his desire to become an engineer in the 8th class only. However his father wanted that the imagination be a doctor or a teacher. Kalpana Chawla started his first space mission on 19th November 1997 on the same day. Then his age was only 35 years. He flew the space shuttle Columbia STS-87 with 6 astronauts. During his first mission, Kalpana spent about 374 hours in space while traveling 1.04 million miles and during this time, he used to have 252 rounds of earth. In Aeronautical Engineering at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. By then India was far behind in space, so it was necessary to get their NASA to complete the dreams. For the same purpose, he went to America in 1982. He did M.Tech in Aerospace Engineering from Texas University here. Then he got a doctorate degree from the University of Colorado.

In 1988, Nasa

was introduced in 1988, Kalpana Chawla made the NASA gown. Here he was appointed at NASA’s Research Center. After this, he joined NASA’s Astronaut Corps in March 1995. After nearly eight months of stringent training, he started his first space mission on November 19, 1997, not only NASA but the whole world including India, with applause and good luck, sent their team on this trip.

15 years ago on 1 February 2003, space is considered to be the most awkward days of history. This was the day on which India’s daughter Kalpana Chawla was returning from space to earth with her 6 other companions. His space shuttle was in the Columbia Shuttle STS-107 at the height of nearly two lakh feet from the ground and the speed of the vehicle was about 20 thousand kilometers per hour. He was so close to the earth that in the next 16 minutes, his vehicle was about to land in Texas, Texas. The whole world was eagerly waiting for Yan’s return to the earth. Then there was a bad news that NASA lost contact with this vehicle. Before the people could understand that the debris of this spacecraft spread to about 160 kilometers in the Texas Dallas area. In this accident, seven astronauts died including Kalpana Chawla. His death anniversary is celebrated every year on February 1, 2003, in honor of seven astronauts including Kalpana.
