1 Lai Ching-te, candidate of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party in Taiwan, won the presidential election

 In  Taiwan , Democratic Progressive Party  candidate and current Vice President  Lai Ching-te  has won the much-awaited presidential election. He is certain to become the next President. This is the party’s third historic victory after Tsai Ing Wen  completed two terms as Taiwan’s President since 2016  . According to the Central Election Commission report, Mr. Lai has received more than fifty lakh votes. Their share in the total votes is more than forty percent. Ku Omitang’s candidate Hou Yu-ih got 33 percent votes. The third-placed People’s Party candidate Wen Jie got 26 percent votes.

2 NaMo Neo-Voter Registration Portal launched in New Delhi to reach out to first-time voters

BJP  President  Jagat Prakash Nadda  launched   NaMo neo-voter registration portal  in  New Delhi  to reach out to  first-time voters . This portal   will serve as a platform to register all new voters as Ambassadors of Developed India . Five thousand conferences will be organized in all the Assemblies on 25 January to strengthen the party’s presence among the youth and deepen its connection with vibrant democracy.

3. More than 30 crore Ayushman cards issued under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan-Arogya Yojana

More than thirty crore Ayushman cards  have been issued to the beneficiaries  under  Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana . This scheme   provides annual health expenditure of Rs 5 lakh to poor families . The objective of this scheme is to provide the facility of this card to more than 10 crore poor families of the country. This scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September 2018.

4 Defense Minister Rajnath Singh approved group insurance scheme for casual workers of Border Roads Organization

Defense  Minister Rajnath Singh  has   approved the launch of Group Insurance Scheme  for  temporary laborers  working for  Border Roads Organization  or  General Reserve Engineer Force . In this scheme,   there is a provision to give an amount of ten lakh rupees to the family or next of kin in case of death of the labourer. The Defense Ministry said that this scheme is being implemented keeping in mind the hazardous workplaces, bad weather, inaccessible areas and occupational health hazards. The ministry said that the scheme will provide social security to temporary laborers working in remote areas of the country. Recently, the Defense Minister has also approved some other welfare measures for temporary labourers. These include advance payment of an ex-gratia of fifty thousand rupees for preserving the dead body and transporting it to the destination, paying transport allowance to the attendant, providing ten thousand rupees for the funeral and immediate assistance in case of death.

5 Second International AYUSH Conference and Exhibition begins at World Trade Center in Dubai

The 2nd International AYUSH Conference and Exhibition   began at the World Trade Center in Dubai . It has been organized  by Vigyan Bharat Manch  and  Ministry of AYUSH  . The three-day event will run till January 15 and will present AYUSH – Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy systems of medicine  as reliable health care systems. The main theme of the conference is prevention and management of chronic non-communicable diseases through AYUSH. In this conference, AYUSH will be shown as a cost-effective and preventive solution to create a disease-free society. More than one thousand five hundred experts from India, Middle East, Far East, Africa, Europe, Australia and America are participating in the conference.

6 Wings India to be held at Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad from 18th January

In Telangana  ,  the 6th International Kite and Sweets Festival  began  at the Parade Ground,  Secunderabad . Along with 50 participants from India, 37 kite flyers from sixteen countries are participating in this three-day festival. These include participants from Indonesia, Switzerland, Australia, Sri Lanka, Canada, Cambodia, Scotland, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Italy, South Africa and the Netherlands. Various 800 stalls of traditional cuisine, handicrafts and handicrafts of Telangana have been set up in the festival. This festival will continue till tomorrow 15th January.

9 Indian Army plans for advanced ‘Pup Tent’ for cold areas near LAC

The Indian Army  has  planned to set up ‘ Pup Tents’ for soldiers at heights along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in  freezing temperatures  of  -50 degrees Celsius . The ‘Pup Tent’ is for troops deployed in extreme cold weather conditions like eastern Ladakh, Sikkim and Siachen Glacier  . The Line of Actual Control (LAC) is the border that  divides the territories of  India and Aksai Chin (Indian territory occupied by China). It is divided into three sectors: the eastern sector spanning Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim (1346 km), the central sector spanning Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh (545 km), and the western sector spanning Ladakh (1597 km). .

10 Unemployment rate likely to increase in 2024: ILO warns

The International Labor Organization (ILO)  has released a report named ‘ World Employment and Social Outlook Report 2024 ‘ on 10 January 2024 . ILO claimed in its report that  the global unemployment rate  is expected to increase to 5.2 percent in the year 2024 . According to the study, the labor market outlook and unemployment are expected to worsen, and in 2024, an additional 2 million workers are expected to seek employment.

11 New safe haven created in Maharashtra for endangered canids and diverse wildlife

 The Government  of Maharashtra  has established an important new wildlife habitat in  Sangli district , aptly  named Atpadi Conservation Reserve . Spread over 9.48 sq km, the reserve  gives priority to the protection of the endangered ‘ Canid ‘ family  including wild dogs, wolves, jackals and foxes . Strategically located, Atappadi bridges the distance between the Maini Conservation Area and Madhok Bird Sanctuary, thereby promoting a protected wildlife corridor. This diverse sanctuary boasts three different types of forests – semi-evergreen, moist deciduous, and dry deciduous. Its rich flora and fauna include 35 tree species, 15 shrubs, 14 vines, 116 herbs and even a parasitic plant, creating a vibrant ecological tapestry.

The South Korean Parliament  recently   passed an important legislative bill banning the consumption and sale of dog meat . The historic decision marks the end of a controversial centuries-old practice in South Korea. The bill, which received broad bipartisan support, was approved by an overwhelming majority of 208 votes in the single-chamber parliament.

13 LIC will buy 10 percent stake in National Housing Bank promoted companies

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC)  said its board of directors  has approved buying up to 10 per cent  stake in the company promoted by  National Housing Bank (NHB)  . LIC said in a communication to the stock market that the board of directors has approved the proposal to invest up to 10 percent of its share capital in a new company promoted by NHB. It states that the investment is to be made in one or more installments.

 The pair of  Rohan Bopanna  and  Australia  ‘s  Matthew Ebden  have lost the final of  the Adelaide International Tennis Tournament .  In the final played in  Australia , the pair was defeated by Rajeev Ram   of  America and  Joe  of  England . The Salisbury  pair won 5-7, 7-5, 9-11. The match was decided by tie-breaker. Last year also in the US Open final, Bopanna and Ebden had to face defeat from the same pair.

15 Well-known classical singer Swar Yogini Dr. Prabha Atre passed away in Pune, she was 91 years old.

Well-known  classical singer Swar Yogini Dr. Prabha Atre  passed away in Pune. She was 91 years old. There is a wave of mourning in the music world due to the demise of Dr. Atre. Dr. Atre, who belonged to the Kirana Gharana of Hindustani classical music,  was honored with all three Padma Awards  by  the Government of India  . The senior singer from Kirana Gharana of UP was awarded Padmashree in 1990, Padma Bhushan in 2002, Padma Vibhushan in 2022. Apart from classical music, she   is also known as a teacher, researcher, composer and writer . Maharashtra Governor  Ramesh Baise , Chief Minister  Eknath Shinde , Deputy Chief Ministers  Devendra Fadnavis  and Ajit Pawar and many eminent personalities from various fields have condoled the demise of Dr. Atre.
