1 Maharashtra’s first export promotion policy approved

Maharashtra  approved the state’s first export promotion policy to boost exports. This policy will be implemented by 2027-28 and is expected to bring investment of approximately Rs 25 thousand crore in the state. It was also decided to appoint an empowered committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister to effectively implement the plan for the upliftment of Dhangar society.

2 India and Netherlands sign a Letter of Intent for cooperation on medical product regulation and enhancing the quality of medical products

India  and   the  Netherlands  have signed a Letter of Intent (MoI) in The Hague , Netherlands  to cooperate on medical product regulation and enhance the quality of medical products and healthcare services for both the countries. The MOI was signed in the meeting between Shri Bhagwant Khuba, Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers and Shri Ernst Kuipers, Minister of Health, Welfare and Sports of the Netherlands. An Indian delegation led by Shri Khuba is in the Netherlands to participate in the 2nd World Local Production Forum (WLPF) meeting to be held in The Hague from 6 to 8 November 2023. The World Local Production Forum is a platform created at the initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO). It aims to increase access to medicines and other health technologies.

3. World Health Organization recognizes India’s success in achieving 16% reduction in TB cases and 18% reduction in TB mortality since 2015

The World Health Organization (WHO)  released its Global TB Report 2023  on November 7, 2023  . The report notes that India has made significant progress in improving TB case detection and shows the impact of COVID-19 on TB programs. Improvement in treatment coverage  has reached 80 percent of estimated TB cases, 19 percent more than last year  . India’s efforts have resulted  in a 16% decline in TB cases by 2022 (since 2015)  ,  almost double the pace of decline in global TB cases (8.7%).  isDuring this period, there has been an 18 percent decline in TB mortality globally, including in India. The World Health Organization reduced the TB death rate from 4.94 lakh in 2021 to 3.31 lakh in 2022. This is a decrease of more than 34 percent in a period of one year. In the Global TB Report – 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India had agreed to publish the data for India as “interim”. This agreement was based on the understanding that WHO would work with the ministry’s technical team to finalize the data.

4 Jharkhand government launches land ownership campaign under Forest Rights Act

Jharkhand Government  launched  a special campaign named “ Abua Bir Dishome Campaign ”  with the goal of providing land ownership certificates to individuals and communities  under  the Forest Rights Act . The objective of this initiative is to recognize and secure the rights of Scheduled Tribes and other traditional forest dwellers for self-cultivation, habitation and various other activities within the forest areas   . The decision to launch this campaign has come after a gap of nine years. The Jharkhand government, citing data submitted to the Supreme Court, revealed that it had received 98,308 Individual Forest Rights (IFR) and 2,695 Community Forest Rights (CFR) applications since the formation of the state in November 2000. Of these, only 60,021 IFR titles and 2,013 CFR titles covering approximately 2.17 lakh acres of forest land have been granted. By comparison, Chhattisgarh, which was formed around the same time as Jharkhand, has processed 9.28 lakh ownership claims and distributed 5.28 lakh titles as of June 30, 2023.

5 Tourism Ministry showcases ‘Incredible India’ at WTM London 2023

The Ministry of Tourism of India  , along with various stakeholders,  is actively participating in the World Travel Market (WTM) London  from November 6 to November 8, 2023  . The Ministry has set up an impressive space of 650 square meters for the ‘ Incredible India Pavilion ‘ at WTM 2023, London. The pavilion serves as a platform to showcase a diverse range of tourism products and transformative experiences for travelers under the theme ‘ Incredible India ‘. The Indian Pavilion was formally inaugurated by Ms. V. Vidyavati, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and His Excellency Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK in the presence of Shri Rohan Khaunte, Minister of Tourism, Government of Goa.

6 India successfully tests Pralay tactical ballistic missile

India   successfully test fired Pralay Tactical Ballistic Missile  off  the coast of Odisha .  The test proved to be a significant milestone as the missile covered its entire range of approximately 500 kilometres , effectively demonstrating its operational capabilities. Defense officials have said that the test was highly successful and met all the predetermined parameters. The Pralaya missile, abbreviated as “ Pralaya: Apocalypse ”, is a canistered tactical, surface-to-surface,  short-range ballistic missile (SRBM)  designed for battlefield use. Defense  Research and Development Organization (DRDO)  has been developed byThe missile incorporates technologies derived from India’s ballistic missile defense programme, particularly the exoatmospheric interceptor missile Prithvi Defense Vehicle (PDV), and the Prahar tactical missile. The project to develop Pralay was approved in March 2015 with a budget of ₹332.88 crore.

7 First India-US Defense Acceleration Eco-System Investor Meet concludes in Delhi

The first  India-US Defense Acceleration Eco-System (INDUS X)  Investor Meet   was held in Delhi . This meeting has been organized ahead of the 2+2 India-US ministerial dialogue. During this,  INDUS-X Educational Series-Gurukul  was launched. It aims to guide investors and startups to the defense eco-system of the US and India. Defense sector start-ups and MSMEs participated in the programme. The meeting brought together everyone including startups, investors, incubators and industry on one platform.

8 Shri Harjinder Singh Dhami again elected President of Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee

 In  Punjab , Shri Harjinder Singh Dhami  has   been re-elected as the President of  Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee-SGPC . In the elections held at the committee office in Amritsar  , he got 118 votes out of 137 votes. He has been elected for the third consecutive time.

9 Indian Air Force contingent included in Dubai Air Show 2023

 A contingent of  the Indian Air Force (IAF)  has landed at Al Maktoum International Airport  in Dubai to participate in  the biennial airshow to  be held in  Dubai from November 13 to 17, 2023  . The IAF contingent   comprises two indigenous platforms – light combat aircraft (LCA) Tejas  and  advanced light helicopter (ALH) Dhruv . However, Tejas will be part of both static and aerial displays during the airshow; Sarang helicopter display team will showcase their aerobatics skills. This is the second consecutive opportunity for the Tejas and Sarang display teams to enthrall the crowd at the Dubai Airshow, after also participating in the 2021 edition. The IAF contingent is being flown by its C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft.

13 UGC issues rules for foreign universities to set up their campus in India

University Grants Commission- UGC  has announced rules for foreign universities to set up and operate their campus  in India  . Foreign universities will have to obtain UGC permission to start new courses on campus. A foreign university wishing to set up a campus in India   must be among the top 500 universities in the world . A foreign university can set up multiple campuses in the country, but will have to apply separately for each. UGC has said that foreign universities will be able to freely recruit teachers and staff on their campuses. Campuses of foreign universities in India  will not be able to conduct online or distance education courses .

14 Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman launches 12 GST Seva Kendras in Vapi, Gujarat

Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs  Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman  launched   12 Goods and Services Tax (GST) Seva Kendras  at  Gyan Dham School, Vapi  in  Gujarat . The Union Finance Minister   also gave a check prize of Rs 10 lakh to 6 customers participating in the Mera Bill, Mera Adhikar scheme . The winners had uploaded their valid GST bills on the app after making the purchase. On this occasion, the Finance Minister said that these state-of-the-art centers will help in further increasing the ease of doing business in the country. The Finance Minister congratulated Gujarat for taking the lead in setting up such centres, saying that it would prove to be an ideal step for other states to emulate. CBIC had launched the Mera Bill Mera Adhikar (MBMA) scheme on September 1, 2023, which aims to promote the culture of generating bills/invoices during sale and purchase transactions. A campaign in support of the MBMA scheme is already underway to create awareness among the people.

17 First US National Gatka Championship, New York Wins

The first  US National Gatka Championship was  recently  concluded at the Sikh Center  of  New York Inc.  , attended by hundreds of spectators.  Organized by Gatka Federation USA,  this championship aims to manage, standardize, promote, and popularize the Sikh martial art Gatka in the United States. The event, organized under the aegis of the World Gatka Federation, witnessed intense competition, with the Kansas Gatka Association securing the runner-up position and the NJ Gatka Association securing the third position.

18 Indian junior hockey team wins bronze medal in Sultan of Johor Cup

Goalkeeper H S Mohit  made a brilliant save in the penalty shootout to  help the Indian junior hockey team  win  6-5 in the bronze medal match against Pakistan   in  the Sultan of Johor Cup . Till the scheduled time both the teams were tied at 3-3. For India, goals were scored by Arun Sahni (11th minute), Poovanna (42nd minute) and captain Uttam Singh (52nd minute).  Germany won the gold medal of the competition  . Germany  defeated Australia  3-1 in the penalty shootout in the final. The Indian junior hockey team had to face defeat 3-6 at the hands of Germany in the semi-finals.

19 Archer Deepika Kumari won two gold medals in the National Games

Former number one archer  Deepika Kumari  won  two gold and one silver medals at the National Games  while Asian Championships gold medalist shooter Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar topped the 50m rifle 3 positions event. Deepika, representing Jharkhand, won the gold medal in the women’s individual event and along with Mrinal Chauhan secured the top position in the mixed team category. Then she led Jharkhand to a silver medal in the women’s team event in which they lost to Haryana in a shootout.

21 National Cancer Awareness Day 2023: 7 November

National Cancer Awareness  Day is celebrated every year  on  7 November  in India to raise  public awareness about early detection, prevention and treatment of cancer. According to data presented at the inauguration of the Indian Congress (ICC), currently 1.4 million (14 lakh) new cancer cases are reported every year in the country, scientists estimate that this will increase to 2 million (20 lakh) by 2040.
