1.AIIB approves USD 329 mn loan to build roads in Gujarat :-

China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved USD 329 million loan to build access roads to 4,000 villages in Gujarat.

Insufficient road connectivity into these villages limits their ability to access healthcare services, bring their goods to market and access transportation for their children to attend schools, it said.

This project will construct and upgrade district and farm-to-market roads for the villagers and provide approaches to educational institutions, schools and hospitals.

 

  1. Karnataka launches ‘Elevate 100’ scheme for start-ups :-

The Karnataka government has launched the ‘Elevate 100’ scheme to identify and nurture innovative start-ups.

The aim is to identify 100 most innovative start-ups in the state to elevate them to the next level of success.

The Elevate scheme is the brainchild of the start-up cell, Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology Services (KBITS).

3.India declares itself free from Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N1 and H5N8) :-

India had reported outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian influenza at various epicenters in Delhi, Gwalior (MP), Rajpura (Punjab), Hissar (Haryana), Bellary (Karnataka), Allappuzha and Kottayam (Kerala), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Daman (Daman) and Khordha and Angul (Odisha during October, 2016 to February, 2017.

All the outbreaks of Avian Influenza (HPAI) mentioned above were notified to OIE and the control and containment operations were carried out as per the Action Plan on Preparedness, Control and Containment of Avian Influenza.

 

4.Dr Mahesh Sharma participates in ‘Second Meeting of BRICS Culture Ministers’ in Tianjin, China  :-

Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (Independent charge) for Culture and Tourism has said that India attaches importance to its engagements with BRICS which has emerged as a valuable forum for consultation, coordination and cooperation on contemporary global issues of mutual interest and has helped promote mutual understanding.

Addressing at the “Second Meeting of BRICS Culture Ministers” in Tianjin, China today, he said that India held the BRICS Chairmanship in 2016 and hosted the 8th BRIGS Summit on 15-16 October, 2016 in Goa under the theme ‘Building Responsive, Inclusive and Collective Solutions’.

 

5.Government of India in consultation with RBI decides to issue Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2017-18– Series II :-

Applications for the bond will be accepted from July 10, 2017 to July 14, 2017; The Bonds will be issued on July 28, 2017.

Government of India, in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India, has decided to issue Sovereign Gold Bonds 2017-18 – Series II.

Applications for the bond will be accepted from July 10, 2017 to July 14, 2017. The Bonds will be issued on July 28, 2017.

The Bonds will be sold through banks, Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL), designated post offices and recognised stock exchanges viz., National Stock Exchange of India Limited and Bombay Stock Exchange.

 

6.PFRDA is observing NPS Service Fortnight from 27t h June, 2017 to 11th July 2017 to promote and create awareness about the National Pension System (NPS) and improve the quality of services provided to the subscribers :-

With a view to promote and create awareness about the National Pension System (NPS) and improve the quality of services provided to the subscribers, Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) is observing NPS Service Fortnight from 27th June, 2017 to 11th July 2017.

During this period all the nodal offices, Pay and Account Offices and DDOs under the Central and State Governments, Points of Presence/ banks/ aggregators/ banking correspondents etc. involved with the acquisition and servicing of NPS subscribers across the country are required to provide all necessary assistance to the subscribers/ prospective subscribers, create awareness about the National Pension System, attend to their services requests, etc in a proactive manner.

 

7.Ministry of Food Processing Industry establishes GST facilitation cell to guide industry about GST regime  :-

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has established a four member GST Facilitation Cell at its office to guide the industry about the new tax regime.

8.Shri Rajnath Singh chairs a review meeting of Police Modernisation Division of MHA :-

The Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting to take stock of the status of procurement of essential and critical equipment required by the forces for internal security operations and border security, here today.

The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, the Union Home Secretary Shri Rajiv Mehrishi, the Directors General of the Central Armed Police Forces and the senior officers in the Ministry of Home Affairs were also present.

 

9.Modi arrives in Hamburg for G20 summit :-

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday arrived in the German city Hamburg to attend the G20 Summit, after wrapping up his historic three-day visit to Israel.

He will attend the summit hosted by Germany on July 7 to 8.

The theme of the summit this year is ‘Shaping an Inter-connected World’

“PM @narendramodi reaches Hamburg for the G20 Summit.

Key multilateral and bilateral engagements will take place through the summit,” the Prime Minister’s Office tweeted.

 

10.“JIGYASA” – Student-Scientist connect programme launched  :-

Jigyasa, a student- scientist connect programme was officially launched in the national capital today.

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has joined hands with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to implement this programme.

The focus is on connecting school students and scientists so as to extend student’s classroom learning with that of a very well planned research laboratory based learning.

 

11.India vs West Indies, 5th ODI: Kohli century helps India to 3-1 series win :-

An unbeaten century from captain Virat Kohli and a half-century by Dinesh Karthik steered India to a comfortable eight-wicket win over West Indies in their fifth one-day in international on Thursday, sealing a 3-1 series victory.

The hosts were restricted to 205-9 after Mohammed Shami (4-48) ripped through the West Indies batting order, leaving Kohli (111) and Karthik (50 not out) to propel the tourists to 206-2 in only 36.5 overs.

 

12.Shri Achal Kumar Joti takes over as new Chief Election Commissioner of India :-

Shri Achal Kumar Joti has assumed charge as the 21st Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, succeeding Dr. Nasim Zaidi here today. Dr. Zaidi demitted office yesterday after completing his tenure.

After the assumption of charge, Shri Joti spoke about the priorities of the Commission and said that the Commission shall pursue vigorously its commitment to hold free, fair, inclusive and credible elections throughout the country.
