1.Cyprus President Nicos Anastasidis won the election for the second term :-

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasidis has won the election for the second term. Following the announcement of the official final results, the Conservative candidate got 55.99 votes. His nearest rival Communist-backed candidate Stavros Malas received 44 percent of the votes.

Anastasidis has been credited with bringing the economy of Cyprus back on track, which was in crisis in 2013.

 

2.North Korea sent the country’s statutory chief Kim Yong to negotiate with South Korea :-

Uttarakharia sent its statutory chief Kim Yong to negotiate with South Korea to avoid any kind of stress situation in the Winter Olympics.

The Unification Ministry of South Korea has said that Kim Yong-Nam will lead a 22-member delegation in the talks starting on Friday. The players from both Korea countries will march under the same flag at the inaugural ceremony.

The United States women’s ice hockey team played their first match with Sweden yesterday, but lost in this friendly match.

 

3.Earthquake tremors in Taiwan, 6.1-magnitude intensity on Richter scale :-

6.1 magnitude earthquake tremors were felt on Sunday on the east coast of Taiwan. The American Geological Survey has said that the intensity of this earthquake was located in the north of the port city of Hualien in 15 North and at a depth of about eight kilometers. It has also been said in the survey that no damage is reported from this earthquake. The earthquake shook the whole land. The houses kept in the house started moving and people came out on the streets with fear.

 

4.The political crisis in the Maldives deepened, the government said – the Supreme Court has no right to remove President Abdullah Yameen :-

Between the ongoing heavy crisis in Maldives, the government said that the Supreme Court has no right to dismiss President Abdullah Yameen. Our correspondent has said that the Attorney General , Police and Army Chief said in a joint conference that the government is aware of the order of the Supreme Court in which the President has been asked to arrest , but the police and the army will not accept it.

Where the Maldivian government is in the midst of trying to get rid of all the opponents including the court , the Opposition parties are also busy in converting the power struggle to its conclusion.

 

5.Government will bring in a policy of enhancing the share of export in GDP to 20% – Suresh Prabhu :-

Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu has said that the government will bring in the policy of increasing the share of exports to the GDP by 20 percent. In a conversation with the Export Promotion Council in Kolkata on Sunday, Mr. Prabhu has asked the industry to make a detailed plan to promote the country’s exports.

 

6.Notice issued by Income Tax Department to those who invest in Bitcoin :-

The Income Tax Department has sent notices to ‘some lakhs’ of people who have made their money in Bitcoin. Sushil Chandra, Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that the department is now trying to recover the tax on such investments. Chandra said that tax officials have come to the fore that many such investors have not given advance tax on their profits. Some others did not clarify about it in the last tax return.   

In December last year, the Department had conducted a survey at the All India level in these exchanges. He said that we have sent notices to many such investors. Many of them have agreed to pay tax. As far as investment in Bitukwine is concerned , we will definitely get tax from them.

 

7.P.V. in the India Open badminton competition Sindhu, USA beat Bevan Zhang from the title :-

In the women’s singles finals of India Open Badminton Tournament in Delhi, PV Sindhu was defeated by American American Beven Zhang on Sunday. Sindhu won the title by defeating Zhang 18-21, 21-11, 20-22.

 

8.Delhi Girls’ Girls and Bengal Girls Wins Ballywal Gold Medal in India School Games :-

Earlier in the ‘Play India’ school games, girls of Delhi and girls of West Bengal won the Gold Medal of Balivolan on Monday. West Bengal defeated Maharashtra 3-0 in straight sets. Delhi defeated Uttar Pradesh 3-2. From Delhi, Ashok and Sahil performed the best game. Delhi received strong support from the school children sitting in the audience gallery.
