1.Nation observes 77th anniversary of Quit India movement:-

The 77th anniversary of the August Kranti Din, which is considered as one of the important milestones in the history of freedom struggle of our country, is being observed today.
On this date in 1942, Mahatma Gandhi gave a clarion call to end the British rule and launched the Quit India Movement at the session of the All-India Congress Committee in Mumbai. After the failure of Cripps Mission, Gandhiji gave the call to Do or Die in his Quit India speech delivered at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai. The grateful country is today paying homage to the freedom fighters and remembering the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs during the freedom struggle.Vice President  M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that the teachings and preaching of Mahatma Gandhi are eternally relevant. He urged people to take part in nation-building activities in a constructive manner. Mr. Naidu was addressing a gathering in New Delhi yesterday after well-known Gandhian, Dr. Shobana Radhakrishna rendered Gandhi Katha, a narrative on the clarion call given by Mahatma Gandhi to the British to Quit India. The narrative was interspersed with some of the favourite Bhajans of Mahatma Gandhi. Culture and Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel and others were present on this occasion. Speaking at the special function held in the Parliament to mark 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded valuable contribution of the freedom fighters and emphasized the significance of August Kranti in the long-drawn struggle.

2.Sushma Swaraj’s last rites performed with full state honours:-

Hundreds of people, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and veteran party leader L K Advani, bid farewell to former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj as her mortal remains were consigned to flames in Delhi yesterday. Swaraj, who also served as the Leader of Opposition and chief minister of Delhi, was given full state honours after which she was cremated at the Lodhi Road crematorium. Bhutan’s former Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, several leaders from the NDA as well the opposition, were also present. As Sushma Swaraj, known for her oratory skills and humanitarian approach, left on her last journey, people in large numbers congregated to bid her adieu.
A non-stop stream of well-wishers paid their last respects to her at her residence and then at the BJP headquarters.

Sushma Swaraj held all several key posts during her long political career both in Government and the opposition.

3.RBI announces NEFT facility will be available round-the-clock for customers:-

The Reserve Bank of India today announced that the National Electronic Funds Transfer(NEFT) facility will be available round-the-clock for the customers. Speaking at a press conference after the release of the third bi-monthly policy statement, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the RBI will make available the NEFT system on a 24×7 basis from December 2019. Currently, NEFT payment system operated by the Reserve Bank as a retail payment system is available for customers from 8 AM to 7 PM on all working days of the week except 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month.Addressing the media, the RBI Governor said that the RBI has also decided to create a central payments fraud information registry system to deal banking frauds adding that the details of the same will be shared later.
The RBI Governor further said in order to leverage the advantages of the Bharat Bill Payment System and harness its full potential, it has been decided to permit all categories of billers (except prepaid recharges) who provide for recurring bill payments to participate in BBPS on a voluntary basis. The BBPS, an inter operable platform for repetitive bill payments, currently covers five segments that are direct-to-home, electricity, gas, telecom and water bills.

4.Mary Kom, Lovlina Borgohain selected for world boxing C’ships:-

Six-time world champion M C Mary Kom and Lovlina Borgohain have been selected for the upcoming women’s world boxing championships based on their recent performances.
The 36-year-old Mary Kom, who has already claimed two gold medals this year India Open and a recent tournament in Indonesia, has been selected in the 51kg category. World and Asian bronze-medallist Borgohain will be competing in the 69kg category.The world championships are scheduled from October 3 to 13 in Russia.

5.Former President Pranab Mukherjee will get Bharat Ratna today, he will also be honoured:-

The 13th President of the country, Pranab Mukherjee, will be honored with the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna by President Ram Nath Kovind today. Apart from Pranab Mukherjee, the award will be posthumously given to social activist Nanaji Deshmukh and Assam renowned singer Bhupen Hazarika. All three were selected for this honor in January 2019.

Political life of five decades long
Pranab Mukherjee’s political life was about five decades. He remained associated with Congress. During this time he held various key positions in the governments led by Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, PV Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh. He held the presidency from 2012-2017. Prior to this, he also served as the Union Finance Minister from 2009 to 2012.

Pranab Mukherjee was born in a Brahmin family on 11 December 1935 in Mirati village in Virbhum district, West Bengal. Pranab Mukherjee’s father’s name is Kamada Kinkar Mukherjee and mother’s name is Rajalakshmi Mukherjee. Pranab Mukherjee received an MA in History and Political Science as well as a law degree from the University of Calcutta. He has been a lawyer, journalist and professor. He also holds an honorary D. Litt title.

Expressing gratitude to the country,
after the announcement of this honor, he had said, ‘I accept this honor with a sense of humility and gratitude towards the people of India. I have always said and then saying that I have received as much from the people of my great country as I have not given. He was congratulated by many leaders including PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi for this.

These former presidents also received the honor
before Pranab Mukherjee, four former presidents of the country have been honored with this honor. This President, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, Rajendra Prasad, Zakir Hussain and V.V. Giri.

Nanaji Deshmukh was associated with Jana Sangh.
Nanaji Deshmukh was formerly associated with Bharatiya Jana Sangh. When the Janata Party government was formed in 1977, he refused to become a minister. He continued to work for Deendayal Research Institute throughout his life. He was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. The Vajpayee government also honored him with the Padma Vibhushan.

Hazarika
Bhupen Hazarika is worshiped in the Northeast, has strong support in the Northeast and especially in the home state of Assam. People have such reverence in their hearts that there is also a temple in their memory in Guwahati, the capital of Assam. In such a situation, the honor of unsolicited Hazarika will also be seen from the political mirror. Hazarika sang songs in Assamese as well as Hindi, Bangla and many other languages.

So far, 45 celebrities have received the
highest civilian honor, so far 45 celebrities have been awarded Bharat Ratna. After the announcement made on 25 January 2019, this number has increased to 48. The last award was given to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (posthumously) in the year 2015.
