Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Caste Students (PMS-SC) is a centrally sponsored scheme for SC students to study in India, whose parent/guardian income should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh per annum. The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to Scheduled Caste students and significantly increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of Scheduled Caste students in higher education with a focus on the poorest families. The government’s effort is to increase the GER of Scheduled Castes in higher education from 23.0 percent to the national average by the financial year 2025-26. Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Castes and Others It is a centrally sponsored scheme. It aims to promote literacy and uninterrupted education at pre-matriculation level for Scheduled Caste children and children whose parents/guardians are engaged in manual scavenging and hazardous work. The ‘Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC and Others’ and ‘PMS-SC’ have been revised. The following steps have been taken to further strengthen the implementation of these schemes:
Funding Pattern under Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Castes and Others : The scheme is divided between Center and State in the ratio of 60:40 (North-Eastern States, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and 100:0 in the case of Union Territory without Assembly).
Funding Pattern under PMS-SC: The funding pattern during FY 2020-21 has been revised from the concept of committed liability to a fixed sharing pattern of 60:40 between the Center and the States (90:10 in the case of North-Eastern States).

Recently, scientists of Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have discovered a new species of bright orange colored marine fish in deep waters off Digha Mohana, West Bengal . This new species, commonly known as gurnards or sea-robins, belongs to the family Trigliidae. Fish name Pterygotrigla intermedica (Pterygotrigla intermedica), its characteristics are very similar to species like Pterygotrigla hemistictus. A total of 178 species of Trigliidae family exist worldwide. A distinctive pectoral-fin with black membranes on the inner surface, a white trailing edge and three small white spots in the center of the fin distinguish it from others. This new marine fish is the fourth species of the “Pterygotrigla” genus found in India. It will help improve our understanding of the unique marine ecosystems in India and highlight the country’s strong position in marine biodiversity.
