1.India ranks 101st in Global Hunger Index 2021

India’s rank has dropped to 101st position out of 116 countries in the Global Hunger Index ( GHI ) 2021 . In 2020, India was ranked 94 out of 107 countries. India’s 2021 GHI score has been recorded at 27.5 out of 50, which falls in the severe category. According to the report neighboring countries like Nepal (76), Bangladesh (76), Myanmar (71) and Pakistan (92) are also ‘ alarming ‘.’ are in the hungry category, but have fared better in feeding its citizens than India. A total of 18 countries, including China, Kuwait and Brazil, share the top rank. These 18 countries have GHI scores less than 5. This means that these countries suffer far less from hunger and malnutrition. The Global Hunger Index (GHI) measures and tracks hunger at the global, regional and national levels. The index is published jointly by Welthungerhilfa (WHH) and Concern Worldwide. Based on current GHI estimates, the index states that the entire world will not achieve low levels of hunger until 2030.

5.’CRISP-M’ tool for MNREGA scheme

Recently ‘ Climate Resilience Information System and Planning ‘ ( CRISP-M ) tool has been launched for ‘ Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme ‘ ( MGNREGS ) . It will also help in incorporating climate information in the ‘Geographical Information System’ (GSI) based implementation of MGNREGA. GIS is a computer system, which analyzes and displays geographically referenced information. The implementation of the ‘CRISP-M’ tool will open up new possibilities for rural communities to tackle climate change issues. The tool will be used in seven states – Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Rajasthan.
