    1. Shri JP Nadda addressed the 8th meeting of Health Ministers of BRICS in Durban, outlined India’s achievements in the health sector, India :-

    Under the agreement made in the first high level meeting of the UN General Assembly to end the sixth meeting of the Health Ministers of Brics held in New Delhi in 2016 and the elimination of tuberculosis, India ratifies strong support in every dimension of TB. These things were addressed by the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Shri J. P. Nadda, today addressing the 8th meeting of Health Ministers of BRICS organized in Durban, South Africa. Shri Nadda said that in order to improve health care, it is essential that TB becomes accessible to cheap, quality, effective and safe medicines, vaccine and screening. The Union Health Minister stressed that India is committed to ending TB by 2025.

     

    1. Supply of coal to power plants increased :-

    Coal India Limited has transported 40.07 million tonnes (MT) coal to power plants in April , 2018 , which is about 14 per cent more than the transportation of 35.16 MT coal in April , 2017 . Coal stock in thermal power plants rose to 15.89 MT from April 30 , 2018 , while on October 19 , 2017 , the stock of coal was measured 7.3 MT.

    Minister of Railways , Coal , Finance and Corporate Affairs, Shri Piyush Goyal today gave this information in response to a written question in the Rajya Sabha today.

     

    1. Election Commissioner Inaugurates a new Manufacturing Facility For EVM Production :-

    The Election Commissioner Shri Sunil Arora visited Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore. BEL has established state-of-the-art secure manufacturing facilities for manufacture of digital certified EVM/VVPATs as per the advise of Technical Experts Committee of ECI. Shri Sunil Arora also reviewed the status of Progress of production of EVMs and VVPATs. During his visit Shri Sunil Arora inaugurated one of the newly set up secured manufacturing facility for EVM production at Military communication Strategic Business Unit at BEL Bangalore Complex.

    A world class exhibition on four eminent personalities of Bengal, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, Netaji Subha Chandra Bose, Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee would be organized very soon at National Library in Kolkata at permanent basis, said Shri Raghvendra Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Culture. Reviewing restoration, renovation and modernization works being carried out by the Central Public Work Department (CPWD) at the Belvedere House of the National Library, the Secretary expressed satisfaction and informed that this house will be illuminated and Light and Sound programmes will be organised to entertain the visitors. Literary festivals would also be held to restore old glories of the building and to make new generations aware of their rich heritage, he added.

     

    1. Setting up of National Resource Centres for preparing online training material :-

    The Government has proposed to set up National Resource Centres (NRCs) to prepare online training material with focus on latest developments in the discipline, new & emerging trends, pedagogical improvements and methodologies for transacting revised curriculum. In the first phase, 75 discipline-specific National Resource Centres have been identified, under the Ministry’s Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) located in Central Universities, IISc, IUCAA, IITs, IISERs, NITs, State Universities ; UGC’s Human Resource Development Centres (HRDCs), National Institutes for Technical Teachers Training (NITTTRs), IIITs, Open Universities. Under this initiative, all in-service teachers, irrespective of their subject and seniority have an enabling opportunity to keep abreast of the latest developments in their disciplines through the technology based online refresher course, through SWAYAM platform.

    External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has stressed the common use of sea and airways in India, Pacific region. Mrs. Sushma Swaraj said that ASEAN is the main point of India’s foreign policy, strategic issues and economic interests. While addressing the session of the ministers at the Delhi Dialogue Conference in New Delhi, he said that the government is committed to using ASEAN’s full capacity for India-ASEAN relations through its East East Policy, keeping the center. Smt. Swaraj said that India’s interest in the Hind-Pacific region is widespread.

    The External Affairs Minister said that the Indian-Pacific region should be a free, independent and inclusive area for all countries under rule-based arrangements, in which there should be equality with all the countries without discrimination of size and power.

     

    1. The Ashes will start from the Edgbaston Test between England and Australia :-

    Between England and Australia, the first Test of the five-match Ashes series will be played in Edgbaston from August 1 to 5 next year. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced this on Thursday. England has been invincible in Egbeston since 2009. After this, the rest of the series will be played in Lords (14-18 August), Headingley (August 22-26), Old Trafford (4 to 8 September) and Oval (September 12 to September 16).

    Earlier this year Australia had registered an impressive 4-0 win over England in the domestic Ashes series, but the Kangaroo team has not won the Ashes series in England since 2001. In 2001, the team led by Steve Waugh won the Ashes series by defeating England 4-1 in England. The World Test Championship begins with the Ashes series, in which the top nine teams of the rankings will compete with each other during two years.

    Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, in New Delhi on Thursday, Prasar Bharti Chairman A Meeting with Sun Prakash and other officials. Meghalaya’s Tourism Minister Metabah Lyngdoh was also present in the meeting. Through media, discussion on promoting cultural and tourist activities in Meghalaya was discussed.

    Mr. Sangma also addressed the tenth Delhi Dialogue on shared issues and advancing the relations of ASEAN and North-East India.

     

    1. Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and Dubai – will start a support desk next week to assist Indians living in the UAE :-

    The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will start a help desk in the UAE next week to help the illegal living in the UAE. Such Indians would be advised to take advantage of the general amnesty scheme announced by the UAE government.

    The UAE has declared a three month general amnesty for foreign nationals who violate the law of the country which will be effective from 1st August to 31 October 2018. Those who violate the rules will be given the option to legalize their stay or leave the country without any legal action, by paying a nominal fee. Although the formal instructions have not yet come from the UAE government.

     

    1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit three African countries on Monday :-

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa on a five-day trip on the 23rd of this month. TS Trimurthy, Secretary of Economic Relations in the Ministry of External Affairs told the reporters that in the first phase of his visit, the Prime Minister will reach Rwanda on a two-day visit. They will also meet the people of Indian community. The leaders of Rwanda will celebrate the celebration ceremony in their honor.

    A high-level business delegation will be accompanied by the Prime Minister. Shri Trimurthy said that India is also considering raising strategic partnership with Rwanda. Shri Modi will leave Ugandan on 24th day. They will meet the President there. The Prime Minister will be meeting delegation level and addressing the Indian community. Prime Minister will also address the Parliament of Uganda
