1. President Draupadi Murmu presents Swachh Survekshan 2022 awards in New Delhi

Presenting the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2022 in New Delhi, President Draupadi Murmu said that swachh survekshan is giving states a healthy competition for cleanliness among cities. He said more than nine crore people and more than 4,000 cities have participated in this year’s survey. Among the states, Madhya Pradesh stood first, followed by Chandigarh and Maharashtra. Indore has been awarded the cleanest city for the sixth consecutive time in the category of cities with a population of more than one lakh. Surat is at the second place and Navi Mumbai at the third place. Haridwar has been declared the cleanest city in the category of cities on the banks of river Ganga with a population of more than one lakh. It is followed by Varanasi and Rishikesh. Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh has bagged the best city award in the category of Safai Mitra SecurityDeolali has been declared the best in the Cantonment Board category of Maharashtra. Tripura has bagged the award in the category of small states. Shivamogga in Karnataka has bagged the fastest traffic speed award. More than 160 awards were given in various categories at the function. About one thousand eight hundred people participated in it.

2. PM Narendra Modi launches 5G mobile communication services in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G services in New Delhi on October 01, 2022. This technology will provide high data rates and high reliable communication without delay. 5G technology will also increase the efficiency of energy, spectrum and networks. The government aims to provide 5G services across the country in two years. For this, about three lakh crore rupees will be invested. Digital connectivity has been an important part of the government’s flagship policy programmes Digital IndiaStartup India and Make in India. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the sixth edition of the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC). The theme of IMC 2022, which runs till October 04, is – New Digital Universe.

3. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched several digital programmes of the Department of Defence Accounts in New Delhi

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh launched several digital initiatives of the Department of Defence Accounts (DAD) during its 275th Annual Day celebrations in New Delhi on October 01, 2022. These initiatives include System for Pension Administration (Raksha) (SPARSH) Mobile App; Pay System for Firebirds; International Air Ticket Booking Module in Defence Travel System (DTS); Defence Account Receipt and Payment System (DARPAN); Defence Civil Wage System and Defence Accounts Human Resource Management System. Through sparsh mobile app, pensioners will be able to get important information related to sparsh portal. The Agniveer pay system will facilitate efficient pay management for Agniveers, who will soon join the armed forces through the government’s transformative Agneepath scheme.

4. ‘School Management System’ introduced in 194 schools of Cantonment Boards

Enabling ‘Ease of Living‘ for residents of cantonment areas, a digital platform – School Management System (SMS) has been implemented in 194 schools under the management of 62 Cantonment Boards in 15 states. The Directorate General of Defence Estates (DGDE), Ministry of Defence has developed in-house SMS, benefiting 61,943 students and 1,965 teachers and serving residents of cantonment and adjoining areas. At present, the system works in English medium and is being further developed to provide services in local languages. The SMS enables parents to apply online for admission to school, monitor the progress of their children, complain, pay fees in digital mode, etc.

5. 14 projects worth Rs 1145 crore sanctioned under National Mission for Clean Ganga

Under the National Mission for Clean Ganga, 14 projects worth 1,145 crore rupees have been sanctioned. Under this, sewage management, industrial pollution control, river front development and decentralized waste water treatment projects will be undertaken. These include eight projects related to drainage management in five states – Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. These projects were approved in the 45th meeting of the Mission. In a statement, the Jal Shakti Ministry said, the four projects sanctioned for the state include setting up of a water treatment plant for Assi Nallah in Varanasi. The state projects are aimed at achieving the target of treated drainage from Assi Ghat, Sanme Ghat and Nakhha. In addition, one biodiversity park each will be set up at Hapur, Bulandshahr, Badaun and Mirchipur in Uttar Pradesh. The National Mission for Clean Ganga has also sanctioned Rs 45 crore for setting up of decentralized waste water treatment systems in the Ganga river basin states.

6. University Grants Commission allows 25 per cent seats in higher education to be reserved for foreign students

The University Grants Commission has allowed 25 per cent seats in higher education to be reserved for foreign students. “Guidelines have been issued to create 25 per cent additional seats for foreign students in universities and higher education institutions,” Ec Chairman Jagadesh Kumar said in a tweet. He said universities will have the freedom to decide their own enrolment policy in case of foreign students. As per the notified guidelines, the seats already reserved will remain out of these 25 per cent reserved seats on the basis of exchange programme or consensus between governments or institutions.

7. Centre extends Armed Forces Special Powers Act in Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh by 6 months

The Centre has extended the status of disturbed areas under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) for another six months in 12 districts of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. The law has been partially implemented in the other five districts of these two north-eastern states. The decision has been taken to continue the armed forces’ operation against militant activities. A notification issued by the Home Ministry said, the Armed Forces Special Powers Act has been extended for six months in 16 police station areas of nine districts – Dimapur, Newland, Chumokedima, Mon, Kifire, Knocklake, Phek, Peren and Zuheboto and four other districts of Nagaland – Kohima, Mokochung, Langleng and Wokha. Nagaland has 16 districts while Arunachal Pradesh has 26 districts.

8. Russia vetoes UN Security Council resolution condemning its referendum and annexation of ukraine’s four regions

Russia vetoes a Western resolution in the UN Security Council condemning the acquisition of Territories in Ukraine. The UNITED States and Albania had presented a draft resolution in the Security Council condemning Russia’s referendum and the annexation of Ukraine’s Donets, Luhansk Kherson and Japorijia regions. The resolution called on Russia to immediately withdraw its forces from Ukraine. The 15-nation UN Security Council voted on the resolution but could not pass it due to Russia’s veto. Ten of the 15 member countries of the Council voted in favour of the resolution while four countries – India, China, Gabon and Brazil – abstained.

9. Kumar Sanu, Shailendra Singh, Anand-Milind honoured with Lata Mangeshkar award

The Madhya Pradesh government on September 28 conferred the annual decoration of the National Lata Mangeshkar Samman on two playback singers Kumar Sanu and Shailendra Singh and music composer duo Anand-Milind at her birthplace Indore on the birth anniversary of lata Mangeshkar. State Culture Minister Usha Thakur presented the National Lata Mangeshkar Samman for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021 to Singh, Anand-Milind and Kumar Sanu respectively at a grand ceremony. Mangeshkar was born on September 28, 1929 in Indore and breathed her last on February 6, 2022 in Mumbai. The National Lata Mangeshkar Samman, instituted in 1984, is an annual decoration given by the state’s culture department to encourage artistic excellence in the field of easy music.

10. English translation of ‘Lata: Sur Gatha’ to release in January 2023

The English translation of ‘Lata: Sur Gatha‘ from a book on legendary singer late Lata Mangeshkar will be available in the market early next year. On the eve of the 93rd birth anniversary of the Bharat Ratna awardee, Penguin Random House India (PRHI) said the English translation of the book will hit the market from January next year. ‘Lata: A Life in Music‘ was originally penned by writer poet Yatindra Mishra in Hindi. It has now been translated into English by well-known writer and translator Ira Pandey. The book won the 64th National Film Award and the MAMI Award for Best Writing on Cinema (2016-17).

11. PM inaugurates and lays foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 5200 crore in Bhavnagar

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 5200 crore in Bhavnagar. PM lays foundation stone for world’s first CNG terminal and brownfield port at Bhavnagar. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Regional Science Centre, which is spread over 20 acres and has been built at a cost of around Rs 100 crore. During the event, the Prime Minister also inaugurated package 7 of SAUNI Scheme Link 2, 25 MW Palitana Solar PV Project, APPL Container (Avadkrupa Plastomac Pvt Ltd) project, among others, and laid the foundation stone of package 9 of Sauni Yohna Link 2, Chorwadla Zone Water Supply Project, among other projects.

13.Hitachi Estemo installs its first solar power plant in India

The 3 MW Jalgaon solar plant is the first phase by Hitachi Estemo. The company will commission an additional 1.5 MW solar power plant by March 2023. The solar power plant has been built over an area of 43301 square metres employing 7128 ground mounted solar panels and 10 inverters, the company said. Hitachi Estemo is known for the development, manufacture, sale, and service of automotive and transportation components. This solar power plant will begin its new journey in the field of sustainable energy in India.

19. RBI cuts GDP growth forecast for FY23 to 7% from 7.2%

The Reserve Bank has announced the decisions of the Monetary Policy Committee and said that the country’s economic growth rate is expected to be 7 percent instead of 7.2 percent in FY23. However, India’s economic growth rate is estimated to be 7.2 percent in the first quarter of fiscal year 2024. Rbi Governor Shaktikanta Das said that the growth of the service sector will be a major place in India’s economic growth rate for the financial year 2022-23. It is expected to grow rapidly and gdp growth will also increase. Talking about this year, GDP is estimated to grow at 6.3 percent in the second quarter of fiscal year 2023. It is expected to grow at 4.6 percent in the third quarter. At the same time, gdp is estimated to grow at the rate of 4.6 percent in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2023.

20. 13 organisations sign non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for data access on ULIPs

Launched by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on September 17, 2022 as part of the ‘National Logistics Policy (NLP)‘, the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) is a promising initiative in the logistics sector aimed at ease of doing business by simplifying logistics processes, improving its effectiveness, increasing transparency and visibility and reducing logistics costs and time. The platform is receiving a very good response from the industry. So far, 13 organisations— MapMyIndia, Cargo Exchange, Freight Fox, Conmov, Intugin, Econtech, Yes Bank, Superprocure, CargoShakti, Cloudstrates, Shiplight, APSEZL, and AITWA — have signed non-disclosure agreements (NDA) to access data on ULIPs. NDA is in process with 11 more organisations like Instavans & Trucks, Bosch India, Portalinks, Shiprocket etc.

21. Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) launches Telecom Technology Development Fund Scheme

Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), a body under the Department of Telecommunications, officially launched the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) scheme on October 01, 2022. This scheme is in line with the clear call of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to incorporate public research in the new phase of AMRUT Kaal. The Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) aims to fund R&D in respect of applications related to specific communication technology in rural areas and to synergise academia, start-ups, research institutions and industry for building and developing the telecom ecosystem. Additionally, the scheme aims to promote technology ownership and indigenous manufacturing, develop a culture of technology co-innovation, reduce imports, promote export opportunities and build intellectual property.

22. International Day of Older Persons

International Day of Older Persons is celebrated every year on October 1. This day is celebrated to bring awareness among the people to prevent the abuse, discrimination, neglect and injustice being done to the elderly all over the world. One of the objectives behind celebrating this day is to improve social behaviour towards the elderly. The United Nations General Assembly presented a resolution paper (45/106) on December 14, 1990, keeping in mind the interests of the elderly, which called for the removal of global ill-treatment and discrimination against the elderly. When this resolution was passed by consensus, international day of older persons was celebrated on October 1 every year. The day was first celebrated on October 1, 1991. The theme of International Day of Older Persons 2022 is “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World”.

23. World Maritime Day 2022

The World Maritime Day (WMD) of the United Nations (UN) is observed annually on the last Thursday of September to recognise the contribution of people working in the maritime industry. World Maritime Day 2022 falls on the 45th World Maritime Day, 29 September 2022. The theme of World Maritime Day 2022 is ‘New Technologies for Green Shipping‘. The theme aims to support the green transition to a sustainable future of the maritime industry. The World Maritime Day Parallel Event (WMDPE) will be held in Durban, South Africa from 12 to 14 October 2022.
