1. The Prime Minister addressed the concluding session of Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Conference –

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Summit (MGISC) in New Delhi today. MGISC has been a 4-day International Conference, which unites the Cleanliness Ministers and other leaders around the world for Wash (Water, Cleanliness and Sanitation). The Prime Minister visited a digital exhibition with the Secretary General of the United Nations Mr. Antonio Guterrej. On the stage, dignitaries on the stage released a medley CD on Mahatma Gandhi and a medley CD based on Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite hymn – “Vaishnav Jan Taon”. Swachh Bharat Awards were also given on this occasion.

In his address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned Mahatma Gandhi’s force on cleanliness. He mentioned Mahatma Gandhi’s “creative program” published in 1945, in which rural cleanliness was an important topic.

 

2. During the ‘Sanatai Sewa Seva Pakhwada’, the Ministry of Railways organized ‘Sanatai Hai Seva Pakhwada’ in its entire Indian Railway Network, during which various activities organized during this gave a great success –

Throughout his network in the Ministry of Railways Nation to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi 15 September to 2 October 2018 ” hygiene service Fortnight ‘ organized.

The beginning of this fort was started by swearing in for all the railway workers. After this, every day of this fortnight was associated with a special topic related to sanitation. In the network of entire Indian Railways, it was proposed to devote two to two days for Clean Stations, Clean Train , Clean Neer , Clean Complex , Clean Society , Clean Awareness.

Detailed guidelines were prepared for ‘ fortnight ‘ and they were circulated in each unit of Indian Railways. The entire network celebrated this ‘ fortnight ‘   in a very effective manner.

During the cleanliness fortnight plantation was carried out on more than 100 kilometers of railway track. During this fortnight, 28 stations of 43 stations and prestigious places connected with Mahatma Gandhi and Golden Triangle Delhi , Agra , Jaipur were cleaned up. Theatrical paintings of railway stations connected with Mahatma Gandhi were thematic Cleanliness ‘ Logo ‘ and National Flag were displayed on all railway coaches tillOctober 2 , 2018.

 

3. State Bank reduces withdrawal limit of ATM to Rs 20,000 –

SBI, the country’s largest bank, has reduced the withdrawal limit from the ATM. Under this, the bank’s classic ATM card can be withdrawn for Rs 20,000 a day. Now the limit is 40,000 rupees. This step has been taken with intent to curb fraud.

The new limit for bank customers will be effective October 31. The number of customers in the bank is more than 42 crores.

From the ATM to the classic ATM-cum-Debit Card, the limit of withdrawal has been reduced to Rs 20,000. No change has been made in the clearance limit in the case of other cards.

A senior official of State Bank of India (SBI) said that the bank’s classic card is not chip-based and hence there is concern about its security.

 

4. Home Minister Rajnath Singh directs states to send Rohitzai refugees to biometric details center –

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked states to send their biometric details center to the next action on Rohingya refugees issue. Chidambaram said the central government , will examine all the facts and figures sent by the State Governments and will be further action after that.

The Home Minister was chaired by the meeting of Eastern Regional Committee in Kolkata today. In the meeting, he discussed issues relating to security issues, including inter-state relations and Maoist threats. Mr Singh said the Center , is taking appropriate measures to combat the Maoist and separatist challenges in the country.

 

5. Team India looks to remain number one in Test rankings against the West Indies –

Despite losing 1-4 in the Test series against England, India, who are ranked number one, will be aiming to keep their top position in the ICC Test rankings in the two-Test series against the West Indies in their hosts. India will want to ensure that it does not lose any points in the Test series starting on Thursday. India are going on top with 115 points in the table, but if they win the series by 2-0, they will also benefit from the same digit, because there is a huge difference between the two ratings points. On the other hand, if India has to face the 0-2 loss, then it will drop to 108 points and if Australia beat Pakistan 2-0 then they will leave behind.

 

6. Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi will be the chief guest at the RSS program –

Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi will be the chief guest in the program on the occasion of Vijaya Dashmi of the National Self-Service Association (RSS) and will share the stage with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. The RSS program will be held in the Silchar Bagh ground in Nagpur on October 18.

Kailash Satyarthi received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. They are known to provide children salvation from child labor. Satyarthi has liberated thousands of children from child labor in his life. Therefore, this time the RSS has invited him as the chief guest in his Vijayadashmi program. Let the RSS celebrate Vijaya Dashmi every year as its establishment day. In the year 1925, the foundation of RSS was established on the day of Vijaya Dashami.

 

7. Vice President inaugurates NHRC’s International Human Rights Conclave –

The Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that India has been unequivocal in its commitment to the preservation and protection of human rights globally as well as within the country. He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the National Human Rights Conclave being organized as a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the National Human Rights Commission. The Vice President appreciated the good work done by NHRC as a diligent watchdog of human rights protection and said that the massive rise in the number of complaints received by the NHRC from 496 in 1993 to 79,612 cases in 2018 were a testament to the faith that the people of India placed on the NHRC.

 

8. Air Marshal Anil Khosla took over as Vice Chief of Air Staff –

Air Marshal Anil Khosla PVSM AVSM VM took over as the Vice Chief of Air Staff on 01 Oct 2018. Born on 09 Apr 1959, Air Marshal an alumni of the National Defence Academy, was commissioned in Indian Air Force in Dec 1979. Air officer has over 4000 hours of accident free flying mainly on different variants of Jaguar, Mig-21 and Kiran aircraft.

 

9. NALCO CMD Dr. Chand conferred with the top national award ‘NIPM Ratna’ –

Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, NALCO has been conferred with the prestigious ‘NIPM Ratna Award’ in the 37th NIPM’ Annual National Conference NATCON-2018, held at Pune. Dr. Chand was given the award in recognition to his significant contribution to People Management & Strategic Leadership. Dr. Chand dedicated the award to HR professionals in the country and the Team NALCO.

 

10. James Allison and Tasuku Honjo win Nobel Prize in Medicine –

American James Allison and Japan’s Tasuku Honjo have won the 2018 Nobel Prize in Medicine for a pioneering approach to cancer treatment. The Nobel committee said the pair’s research — which harnesses the body’s immune system to attack cancer cells — amounted to a “landmark in our fight against cancer.” The approach, known as immune checkpoint theory, had “revolutionized cancer treatment and has fundamentally changed the way we view how cancer can be managed,” the committee said.
