1.Today is National Broadcasting day:-

Today is National Broadcasting day. On this day in 1927, the first ever radio broadcast in the country went on the air from the Bombay Station under a private company, the Indian Broadcasting Company. On 8th of June, 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service became All India Radio. Since 1927, radio has been an important part in people’s life in India. All India Radio has been serving to inform, educate and entertain the masses since it’s inception, truly living up to its motto – Bahujan Hitaya  Bahujan Sukhaya. Currently, AIR is one of the largest public broadcasting organisations in the world.

2.PM to share his thoughts in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme on July 28:-

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share his thoughts with the people in the country and abroad in his Mann Ki Baat programme on All India Radio on 28th of this month at 11 AM.Mr Modi has invited the people to share their ideas. They can share their views in MyGov Open Forum or also dial the toll-free number 1800-11-7800 to record message for the Prime Minister in either Hindi or English.AIR correspondent reports, the Prime Minister has been raising various important issues through the monthly programme which is aired on the last Sunday of every month. In the last episode of the programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had talked about the letters written by the people for Mann Ki Baat programme. He said, the letter acts as a source of inspiration for him and also turn out to be a source of energy for him.

3.Govt asserts amendment to RTI Act does not compromise autonomy of Information Commission:-

Information & Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar has said that Narendra Modi Government is fully committed to transparency and accountability in the flow of information relating various government departments.He said, as a result of its commitment to strengthen genuine and free flow of information, the government has encouraged suo motu dissemination of maximum information by Government Departments in order to reduce number of RTIs.In a tweet, Mr Javadekar said, there is a deliberate and mischievous attempt by a section to malign the government. The Minister said, there is no merit in their criticism as the amendment to RTI Act in no way compromises the autonomy of Information Commission.

4.CBI conducts raids at 11 places in WB, Bihar, Tripura, Delhi in chit fund case:-

The CBI has conducted searches at 11 locations in ongoing investigation of a chit fund case. An official said, the searches were carried out in the district of North 24 Parganas of West Bengal, Patna, Agartala and New Delhi. During the searches, several incriminating documents have been recovered.The CBI has booked Partha Chakraborti, the promoter of the company, and others for alleged criminal conspiracy and cheating. It was alleged that the accused persons collected huge amounts as deposits from the public on assurance to repay the amounts with high rate of interest. But the accused persons did not repay and closed down the offices and thereby cheated the investors and misappropriated the public money invested by depositors. The amount involved in the scam is around 87 crore rupees.

5.PM pays tribute to freedom fighter Chandrasekhar Azad , Lokmanya Tilak:-

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tribute to revolutionary freedom fighter Chandrasekhar Azad on his birth anniversary. In a tweet, Mr Modi described him as fearless and determined freedom fighter, who sacrificed his life for the country’s independence. Mr Modi said, his heroic legacy is a source of inspiration for the countrymen.Prime Minister also paid tribute to Lokmanya Tilak on his birth anniversary. He said, Lokmanya Tilak, a veteran freedom fighter devoted his life to Purn Swaraj. Mr Modi said, the nation will always remember their contributions.

6.World Media hails India’s successful launch of Chandrayaan 2:-

International Media have hailed India’s successful launch of its second moon mission Chandrayaan-2. The Washington Post commented that India’s low-cost, homegrown technology that has powered its space programme is a source of national pride and inspiration. Quoting experts, the Post said the successful second attempt so soon after the aborted launch highlights ISRO’s confidence in its technological capabilities, which have not been hamstrung by its paltry 1.8 billion US Dollar budget.In comparison, NASA received USD 21.5 billion in funds this year, the Post noted.The New York Times commented that if the rest of the mission goes as well, India will become the fourth nation – after the United States, Russia and China – to land on the moon, more than 200,000 miles away.Its target is a region near the mysterious South Pole, where no other missions have explored.CNN said this mission is significant for India, the country wants to become a major space player and put Indian astronauts in space by 2022.Leading British newspaper, The Guardian reported that  Chandrayaan-2 aims to become the first mission to conduct a surface landing on the lunar south pole region, where it will collect crucial information about the moon’s composition.The Times newspaper of London reported that India has launched a rocket to the moon, aiming to become the fourth country to land a craft on the lunar surface and cement its emergence as a leading space power.BBC commented that it is the most complex mission ever attempted by India’s space agency.China’s state-run Xinhua news agency gave extensive coverage to Chandrayaan-2’s launch and reactions of President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Pakistan’s leading newspapers on their websites displayed the news of the launch by international news agencies.

7.B’desh: HC summons Chief health officers on sharp rise in dengue cases in Dhaka:-

In Bangladesh, Dhaka High Court has summoned the Chief health officers of North and South Dhaka city corporation to explain the steps taken to contain the sharp rise in Dengue cases. The court reprimanded the city health officials for ineffective control on mosquito breeding in Dhaka.There has been a sharp spike in Dengue cases in the capital city Dhaka recently. More than 400 new Dengue patients have been admitted to city hospitals in the last two days. According to the health emergency operation centre and control room of the government, more than 7000 cases of Dengue have been reported in the city this year. Official data says 5 people have died due to Dengue though the media reports a much higher figure. A civil surgeon also succumbed to Dengue fever on Monday.
Earlier on Saturday the WHO Bangladesh had said that said the dengue situation was alarming in Bangladesh, but not out of control.

8.Trump, congressional leaders clinch sweeping deal on budget:-

US President Donald Trump and congressional leaders clinched a sweeping two-year budget deal that would avert a feared government default later this year but add to rising budget deficits.Mr. Trump tweeted that a deal has been struck with the White House and the top Democratic and Republican leaders in both chambers of Congress on a two-year Budget and Debt Ceiling, with no poison pills that could have derailed the legislation. He said the agreement will boost federal spending and suspend the debt limit until after the next presidential election.Under the agreement, the Treasury Department’s borrowing authority would be extended through July 31, 2021. The pact would also set overall spending levels for the next two years on both defense and non-defense programs operated by the federal government.

9.US unlikely to lift freeze on security assistance to Pakistan, hints Prez Trump:-

US President Donald Trump has hinted that he is unlikely to lift the freeze of security assistance to Pakistan till the time he is satisfied with Islamabad’s actions against terrorist network.During their first meeting in Washington, Mr Trump told Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan last night that US is paying 1.3 billion dollars to Pakistan in aid for many years but Pakistan is going against them. Ties between the US and Pakistan strained after Trump, while announcing his Afghanistan and South Asia policy in August 2017, hit out at Pakistan for providing safe havens to agents of chaos that kill Americans in Afghanistan. The US President had warned Islamabad that it has much to lose by harbouring terrorists.

10.Ukraine: Prez Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s party leads in parliamentary election:-

In Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s party is leading in the parliamentary election, according to preliminary results released by the electoral body.The Central Election Commission said Servant of the People has won 43.10 per cent of the vote as 90.89 per cent of ballots are counted so far.The Opposition Platform – For Life party comes second with 12.94 per cent of votes, followed by former President Petro Poroshenko’s European Solidarity with 8.18 per cent.Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko’s Fatherland party also got 8.18 per cent of vote and rock musician Svyatoslav Vakarchuk’s the Voice party won 5.92 per cent of vote.The President’s party said it is on course to win about 250 of parliament’s 450 seats.It will also be the best result by any party in Ukraine’s post-1991 history.On Sunday, only 424 seats in the parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, were contested in the snap elections. Those seats not included represent the war-torn Donbas region and Crimea.

11.Three Indian boxers enter quarters of Thailand International Tournament:-

Asian Championships silver-medallist Deepak Singh was among the three Indian boxers to enter the quarterfinals of the Thailand International Tournament in Bangkok today. Former India Open gold-medallist Manisha Moun and Ashish Kumar were the other Indians to enter the last-eight stage.Deepak put up a dominating performance in 49 Kilogram category to defeat Morocco’s Said Mortaji 5-0 to be just one step away from a medal. Manisha stormed into the quarterfinal after out-punching Thailand’s Sajeewani Srimali by 5-0 in 57 Kilogram category.In 75 Kilogram category, Ashish, on the other hand, had to toil a bit before securing a 4-1 verdict over another local favourite Aphisit Kanankhokkhruea.

12.PV Sindhu, K Srikanth to lead Indian campaign at Japan Open:-

In Badminton, ace Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth will lead the Indian campaign at the Japan Open BWF World Tour Super, starting in Tokyo today.Among other Indians, B Sai Praneeth will face Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto today. Sindhu opens hercampaign against China’s Han Yue tomorrow in women’s singles.In men’s singles, it will be an all-Indian opening round battle between HS Prannoy and eighth seed Kidambi Srikanth tomorrow.Sameer Verma will look to test his fitness against Denmark’s Anders Antonsen tomorrow.The mixed doubles pair of Ashwini Ponappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will contest today against the unseeded German duo of Marvin Seidel and Linda Efler.While the men’s doubles partners Manu Attri and Sumeeth B Reddy will take on Goh Seh Fei and Nur Izzudin of Malaysia today.It will be great preparation for the Olympics as the tournament will take place at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, a venue where badminton games will take place during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

13.Table Tennis: India tops medal tally with seven gold at Commonwealth C’ships:-

In Table Tennis, hosts India completed a clean sweep, claiming all the seven gold medals at the 21st Commonwealth Championships, which concluded yesterday in Cuttack.Harmeet Desai and Ayhika Mukherjee won the men’s and women’s singles titles Yesterday. Harmeet defeated favourite G. Sathiyan 4-3 in a hard-fought final to claim the men’s singles title.Earlier yesterday, Anthony Amalraj and Manav Thakkar claimed the men’s doubles gold by stunning top seeds Sathiyan and Sharath Kamal 3-1.
In women singles, Ayhika won her maiden gold in the championships, thrashing former national champion Madurika Patkar 4-0. Pooja Sahasrabudhe and Krittwika Sinha Roy defeated compatriots Sreeja Akula and Mousumi Paul 3-1 to claim the women’s doubles crown.Indian paddlers topped the medals tally with seven gold, five silver and three bronze. England won two silver and three bronze medals. Singapore got 6 bronze medals while Malaysia and Nigeria got 1 bronze each.

14.Sensex slips 306 points; Nifty ends at 11,346:-

Benchmarks Domestic indices today plunged for the third session in a row.Sensex and Nifty, both, logged losses amid foreign fund outflow and weak cues from global equity markets.Sensex at Bombay Stock Exchange declined 306 points or 0.80 per cent to close at 38,031. Nifty at National Stock Exchange also fell 73 points or 0.64 per cent to end at 11,346.

15.FDI inflow registered growth of 79% during last 6 years:-

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow has increased during the last six years from 36.05 billion US Dollars in 2013-14 to 64.38 billion US Dollars in 2018-19, registering a growth of 79 per cent.Giving details about the FDI inflow, sources in the Commerce Ministry said it has been the endeavour of the government to put in place an enabling and investor-friendly FDI policy.The intent is to make the FDI policy more investor-friendly and remove the policy bottlenecks that have been hindering investment inflow into the country.
