1.US decides not to impose sanctions against India for purchase of S-400 missiles from Russia

The US has decided not to impose sanctions on India under its stringent act for buying S-400 missile systems from Russia . It is being considered as a big relief for India. After buying the missile system from Russia, there were fears of US sanctions but India was confident of its implementation against itself. The US House of Representatives passed a legislative amendment to impose no restrictions under the Sanctions Act. The US House of Representatives on Thursday approved the amendment of Indian-origin MP Ro Khanna to the National Defense Authorization Act. Responding to this development, Mr. Ro Khanna said that the move will further strengthen the India-US defense partnership.

2.Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe sworn in as acting President of Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as acting President by Chief Justice Jayanta Jayasuriya in Sri Lanka following the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa . According to the provisions of the Constitution, the new President is expected to be elected through Parliament within seven days.

In Britain , Finance Minister Rishi Sunak has topped the second round of voting to replace Boris Johnson as leader and prime minister of the Conservative Party with 101 votes. Trade Minister Penny Mordaunt is second with 83 votes and Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is third with 64 votes. Polling for the third phase will be held on Monday and the fourth phase on July 19. The fifth round of voting will be held on 20th. The last date for finalizing the names of the last two candidates is July 21. The results will be declared on September 5. After that Boris Johnson will step down.

4.India’s first monkeypox patient confirmed in Kerala’s Kollam

After the confirmation of monkeypox patient in Kollam district of Kerala , the Center has sent a high-level team of various experts to the state to cooperate with the health authorities there. The central team consists of the National Center for Disease Control and Dr. RML of New Delhi. Hospital experts and a senior official from the Ministry of Health. The Central Government has asked the States and Union Territories to follow the guidelines of the Ministry of Health to deal with Monkeypox disease. Monkeypox has been confirmed in a 35-year-old man living in Kollam. This person had reached Kerala from UAE. He and the people who came in close contact with him have been kept in quarantine.

7.Apex committee constituted to examine efficiency of functioning of Ministry of Defense

Defense Ministry constitutes an Apex Committee under the Chairmanship of Defense Secretary to examine the efficiency of the functioning of the Ministryhas done. Such scrutiny would provide valuable information to the top officials of the Ministry about the deficiencies in the formulation and implementation of the projects. Apart from this, suggestions are expected to be received regarding improvement in internal processes, improvement in financial management and risk identification. This committee will identify specific areas for performance and conduct of audit by the Controller General of Defense Accounts. The committee will also monitor the performance audit report and the action taken thereon. It will also advise the Defense Minister on remedial measures as well as overall reform measures in strengthening the internal monitoring and risk management framework. The members of the committee include Deputy Chiefs of the three services, Secretary Defense (Finance), Chief of Integrated Staff Committee, Controller General of Defense Accounts, Director General (Acquisition) and other senior officials of the Defense Ministry and Defense Research and Development Organization.

The website of Ministry of Home Affairs has been ranked first in the National e-Governance Service Performance Review under the Portal of Central Ministries . National Crime Records Bureau-NCRB ‘s Digital Police Portal ranks second in this review. The objective of reviewing the working capacity of these portals from time to time is to make the working of the States, Union Territories and Central Government more effective in providing online services to the citizens. There were four main parameters of the review. These include accessibility, subject availability, ease of use of the portal and confidentiality of the portals of the Union Ministry of Information Security.

9.Tripura government launched ‘Earn With Learn’ scheme

The Tripura government has launched a new scheme named ‘ Earn With Learn ‘ to bring back people who have dropped out of schools after the outbreak of Kovid-19 . This scheme is a part of ‘ Vidyalaya Chalo Abhiyan ‘ ( Let’s go to school ). The government attempted to bring back school dropouts in 2020 by implementing the Vidyalaya Chalo Abhiyan, which was first launched in 2009, but was unable to make any progress due to the pandemic. Around 9,000 students aged 6 to 14 dropped out of school during the pandemic. Tripura Education Department’s ‘Earn With Learn’ initiative will involve third year students of all colleges in conducting surveys to find out drop outs in all classes . to each volunteer500 will be given if they enroll a dropout student in the same school. Anganwadi teachers will assist the volunteers to make the program a success.

10.Delhi government and UNICEF agreement for employment opportunities for students

The Delhi government has announced a new pilot project with UNICEF to provide employment opportunities for the students of Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU) . This will give new job opportunities to the students. DSEU and UNICEF have started ‘Career Awareness Session’ for the students. Delhi’s Skill University has joined hands with Yuvah (Generation Unlimited India) at UNICEF to access employment opportunities, help students to become job ready as well as listen and amplify the voice of youth .

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur released the promo of a new serial ‘Swaraj: The Samagra Gatha of India’s Freedom Struggle’ in New Delhi today. This serial will air on Doordarshan from 14 August 2022. The 75-episode serial will highlight the contribution of freedom fighters and unsung heroes of the freedom struggle. This serial will also be telecast on All India Radio. The serial will be broadcast in 10 languages, which will provide a unique opportunity to the people to understand the freedom struggle better.

12.7th anniversary of Skill India program

On July 15 , 2022, the 7th anniversary of the Skill India program was celebrated. This scheme is also called National Skill Development Mission. It was started in the year 2015 . The objective of Skill India Mission is to enable Indian youth to get industry related skill training so that they can earn a better livelihood. More than one crore youth are getting trained every year under the Skill India Mission. The Skill India Mission was launched in the year 2015 with an aim to train over 40 crore Indians by the year 2022. In this “ National Skill Development Mission ”, “ National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, 2015 ”, “ Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana ”, “ Skill Loan Scheme ”Various initiatives are included etc.

Ola Electric recently introduced India’s first indigenously developed Lithium-Ion cell , it is named as “ NMC 2170 ”. Ola Electric is an electric vehicle company headed by Bhavish Agarwal . NMC 2170 has been made in-house. The mass production of SAIL will begin by 2023 at its upcoming Gigafactory . NMC 2170 is a high nickel cylindrical Ola cell. This includes nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) on the cathode side and graphite and silicon on the anode side. It uses specific chemistry and materials, which help the cell pack more energy into a given space. It also improves the overall life cycle of the lithium-ion cell. This cell has been developed keeping in mind the indigenous conditions in origin.

14.China launches global naming program for its latest solar observatory

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has launched a global name collection for the country’s latest solar observatory , which will be launched into Sun-synchronous orbit in October. The Advanced Space-Based Solar Observatory (ASO-S) , China’s latest solar observation satellite , will help scientists investigate the relationship between the solar magnetic field, solar flares and coronal mass ejections. Carrying three payloads will be the Advanced Space-Based Solar Observatory (ASO-S), which weighs about 888 kg. ASO-S carries three payloads: the Full-Disk Vector Magnetograph (FMG) , the Lyman- α Solar Telescope (LST) and the Hard X-ray Imager (HXI) on a single platform . ASO-SChinese H-alpha is a replacement for Solar Explorer (CHASE) / Chinese name Xihe . It was launched in October to investigate the sudden and violent physical mechanisms that cause solar flares.

16.Meena Hemchandra appointed as acting chairman of Karun Vysya Bank

According to private sector lender Karur Vysya Bank , the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has authorized the appointment of Meena Hemchandra as the temporary chairman of Karur Vysya Bank for three years. Hemchandra’s application for the post of non-executive independent (part-time) chairman of the bank was recommended by the bank to RBI in May. Hemchandra’s (64) term has been approved for 3 years from the day he assumes office . He has more than 35 years of banking expertise in various areas of RBI as a Career Banker. From June 2015 to November 2017, Hemchandra served as the Executive Director of RBI. Shares of Karur Vysya Bank were trading at Rs 47.40 per share, down 0.63 per cent from the previous close on BSE.

17.Nomura cuts India’s growth forecast to 4.7%

Nomura has cut its 2023 forecast for economic growth in India, with Nomura forecasting 4.7 percent growth in gross domestic product (GDP) amid fears of recession and rising interest rates , compared to 5.4 percent earlier. World Youth Skills Day is celebrated across the world on 15 July every year . On 18 December 2014 , the United Nations General Assembly unanimously approved Sri Lankaadopted a resolution under the leadership of the Government of India and declared 15 July as the World Youth Skills Day. Sri Lanka started this resolution with the help of G77 (Group of 77 countries) and China to highlight the importance of youth skill development at the global level. Its objective is to achieve better socio-economic conditions for the youth which will act as a means of addressing the challenges of unemployment and underemployment. World Youth Skills Day is traditionally organized by the Permanent Missions of Portugal and Sri Lanka to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Organized together with the International Labor Organization and the Office of the Secretary-General. World Youth Skills Day is also important because rising youth unemployment in the world is seen as one of the most serious problems facing the economies and societies of developed and developing countries. There are currently about 73 million youth unemployed, of whom 40 million enter the labor market every year. To tackle this problem of unemployment, at least 475 million new jobs need to be created in the next decade.
