China  ‘s  badminton team  maintained  its dominance in the game by winning the men’s Thomas Cup  and  the women’s Uber Cup  . The 2024 BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Final will be held on May 5, 2024 in  the Chinese city of Chengdu.  was played on May 5, 2024 in . The Thomas & Uber Cup is held every two years and is organized by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the world badminton governing body. Both the Thomas and Uber Cups feature three singles and two doubles matches. However, if a team wins the first two singles and first doubles matches, no other matches are played. The 2024 edition of the Thomas & Uber Cup was held in Chengdu, China from 27 April to 5 May 2024.

2 Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman swears in Sanjay Kumar Mishra as Chairman of GST AT

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman  administered  the oath of integrity and secrecy  to  retired judge Sanjay Kumar Mishra  as Chairman of the GST Reconsideration Tribunal-GST AT  in  New Delhi . Justice Mishra’s appointment marks the beginning of operation of the GST AT, a key body to resolve GST-related disputes. The GST AT is the reconsideration authority to hear various petitions under the Central Goods and Services Tax Act.

3 Kareena Kapoor becomes the national ambassador of UNICEF India

On May 4,  United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) India appointed  Bollywood actress  Kareena Kapoor Khan as  the  national brand ambassador  . Kareena has been associated with UNICEF as a celebrity advocate since 2014. Kareena has worked with UNICEF for the education and living life development of children. 43-year-old Kareena started her film career with the film Refugee released in 2000.

4 School on Wheels project inaugurated in Manipur

School on Wheels scheme  was launched  in   Imphal  , Manipur on 5 May  . Governor  Anusuiya Uike  inaugurated it. Through this scheme,  children living in relief camps of Manipur  will get education.  Vidya Bharati Shiksha Vikas Samiti  started this scheme. Under this, study material will be delivered to displaced children through buses. Computer lab, library and many games are kept in the School on Wheels bus. Children living in relief camps will be able to use these. This bus will visit relief camps at various places in the state. About 18 thousand students are living in 480 relief camps.

5 Netanyahu bans Qatar’s media houses

On May 5,  the Israeli government  banned Qatar  ‘s media house  Aljazeera  in the country  . Israeli police also raided the office of Aljazeera. Many items including cameras have been seized. Aljazeera’s office in Israel   is in the Ambassador Hotel in Jerusalem . Israel took this decision due to dissatisfaction with the channel’s reporting on the Hamas war. Israel accused Al Jazeera of being a mouthpiece of Qatar.

Jose Raul Mulino  has   won Panama’s presidential election after his three nearest rivals conceded defeat  . Jose Raul Mulino, a 64-year-old former security minister, won with nearly 35% of the votes, more than 92% of the votes counted. With this, he has made an unassailable lead of 9 percent over his nearest rival. Outgoing President Laurentino Cortizo congratulated José Raúl Mulino on his victory.

7 Indian men-women relay teams qualify for Olympics

On May 6,  the Indian women’s and men’s relay teams  qualified  for the Paris Olympics  in  the 4×400 meter relay  .   The Indian women’s team finished second in the second round heat at the ongoing World Athletics Relay in Bahamas . The men’s team also qualified for Paris by finishing second in their second heat. Among the women, the quartet of Rupal Chaudhary, MR Poovamma, Jyotika Sri Dandi and Subha Venkatesan finished second with a timing of 3 minutes and 29.35 seconds. Jamaica’s team stood first with 3.28.54. Among men, the team of Mohammad Anas Yahiya, Mohammad Ajmal, Arokia Rajeev and Amoj Jacob finished second with a timing of 3 minutes and 3.23 seconds. The USA men’s team finished first with a time of 2:59.9.

National record holder Tejaswini   stood at the top by jumping 2.23 meters high . With this he also equaled the best performance of the season. 9 Discovery of Peucettia chhaprajnirwin in Tal Chhappar Wildlife Sanctuary

Recently  arachnologists  have  identified the green lynx spider  , which was never discovered before. This newly identified spider species,   found in  the Tal Chhapar Wildlife Sanctuary  in  Rajasthan , has been named Poucsetia chhaparnirwin  . This nocturnal spider, due to its green color  , hunts small insects by hiding in the leaves of the acacia  tree (Vachellia nilotica) and acts as an important predator in controlling insect populations and maintaining ecological balance. Is. The extreme temperature climate of the sanctuary underlines the adaptability of this spider. Green lynx spiders are part of a group of active hunter-gatherer spiders (Oxyopidae), which do not normally build webs. These spiders, often found in vegetation, are known for their keen vision and use ambush or stalking tactics to capture prey, often waiting on flowers for insects to approach.

10 Mumbai City FC beats Mohun Bagan Super Giants to win ISL 2023-24

Mumbai City FC Football Club  defeated   Mohun Bagan Bagan Super Giant by 3-1 goals to win  the 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL)  final   played at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium  in  Kolkata (West Bengal) . This was Mumbai City FC’s second title. Incidentally, Mumbai City FC won their first ISL title by defeating Mohun Bagan in 2020-21. In the final match, Jorge Pereira Diaz, Bipin Singh and Jakub Vojtas scored for Mumbai City FC, while Jason Cumming scored the only goal for Mohun Bagan Bagan Super Giant. ISL 2023-24 winners Mumbai City FC received Rs 6 crore as prize money and runners-up Mohun Bagan Super Giants received Rs 3 crore as prize money.

11 Iga Swiatek, Andrey Rublev win Madrid Open tennis singles titles

World No. 1 female tennis players  Iga Swiatek  and  Andrey Rublev   won the women’s and men’s singles titles respectively  at the 2024 Madrid Open . World No. 1  Iga Swiatek of Poland  won her first Madrid Open women’s doubles title by defeating  Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (9/7)  in the final  . Russia’s Andrey Rublev  defeated  Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime  4-6, 7-5, 7-5 to win the ATP Madrid Open Masters 1000 singles title. This is his second ATP Masters title. The Madrid Open Tennis was held in Madrid, the capital of Spain, from 22 April to 5 May 2024. The Madrid Open was a 1000 event, meaning that the winners of the men’s and women’s titles would receive 1000 ranking points.

12 Lando Norris wins first F1 race

On May 5,  F1 racer Lando Norris  of   McLaren  won  the Miami Grand Prix race. This is the first win of Lando’s F1 career. Lando Norris, 24,   is  a Belgian racing driver . Max Verstappen of Red Bull  Racing   remained in second position.  Ferrari  team racer  Carlos Sainz  got the third position.  Mercedes  ‘  Lewis Hamilton  remained at 6th position and George Russell remained at 8th position. Lando Norris won the MSA Formula Championship in 2015.

13 Real Madrid Football Club won the 36th La Liga title

Spanish football club Real Madrid  has   won the title of La Liga 2023-24 season by defeating Cadiz  3-0  . In the other match, the outcome of which could affect the title round, Verona Football Club defeated Barcelona 4–2 to ensure Real Madrid’s 36th La Liga title. Brahim Diaz, Jude Bellingham and Joselu scored for Real Madrid in the match against Cadiz. La Liga is the top domestic men’s professional football tournament in Spain. Real Madrid, also known as Los Blancos to its supporters, leads the 2023-24 La Liga season with 87 points with four matches still to be played. Real Madrid has created an unassailable 13-point lead over its nearest rival, Verona.
