1 World famous Dhanu Yatra started in Odisha

The world famous Bargarh  76th Dhanu Yatra   started in  Odisha and  will continue  till January 25 . The Dhanu Yatra, symbolizing the victory of good over evil, was  started in Bargarh in 1947-48  as a part of the country’s independence celebrations  , and is now organized every year. This festival  is based on Krishna Leela  and it   will showcase the mythological story of Krishna and his maternal uncle Kansa .

The 76th Army Day Parade of the Central Command of  the Indian Army   was organized   for the first time in  Lucknow .The parade of this command, known as Surya Command,  was held at 11 Gorkha Rifle Regimental Centre. Army Chief General Manoj Pandey inspected the Army Day Parade and honored the soldiers who displayed bravery and sacrifice with 14 Gallantry Awards. Defense Chief General Anil Chauhan and other senior army officers were also present on the occasion.

4 IISc brings heat-tolerant vaccine against existing strain of SARS-CoV-2

A heat-tolerant vaccine  developed by researchers at the Indian Institute of Science (   IISc  )  be effective against all currently existing strains of SARS-CoV-2, in addition to being effective against future strains. Ability to quickly adapt to variants as well. According to IISc, current vaccines have proven effective against most SARS-CoV-2 strains but the efficacy of the vaccines has reduced due to rapid mutation of the virus. After analyzing various proteins found in the virus, the researchers selected two parts of the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, the S2 subunit and the receptor binding domain (RBD), to develop their potential vaccine.

5 NITI Aayog said – In the last nine years, about 25 crore people came out of poverty.

 According to  NITI Aayog, about 25 crore people in the country have come out of poverty in the last nine years  . NITI Aayog   has released a report on multidimensional poverty in India since 2005-06 . Under this, studies have been done about reducing the poverty rate in various dimensions. According to this report,  poverty has reduced from 29 percent to about 11 percent in the last nine years  . The highest decline in poverty  has been recorded  in  Uttar Pradesh . About 6 crore people of the state have come out of poverty in the last nine years. after this  are Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan  . NITI Aayog has said that poverty in India will soon come down to 10 percent this year. Around the year 2005, more than 50 percent of the people in the country were struggling with the problem of poverty. NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer B.V.R. Subramaniam said that reducing poverty by 50 percent in about 8 to 9 years is a remarkable achievement and its impact will also be reflected in India’s sustainable development goals.

6 National Highway Authority of India launches ‘One Vehicle One Fastag’ initiative to improve National Highway experience

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has  launched  One Vehicle, One Fastag ‘ initiative to increase the efficiency of electronic toll collection system  and provide seamless movement facility at toll plazas. The initiative aims to discourage user behavior such as using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags for a particular vehicle. NHAI requires FASTag users to update their latest FASTag by updating KYC as per Reserve Bank of India guidelines on ‘ Know Your Customer ‘ ( KYC) .NHAI is also encouragingFastags with incomplete KYC along with outstanding funds will be deactivated/blacklisted by banks after January 31, 2024.

7 Indian Army started Operation Sarvshakti

Indian Army  has  launched Operation Sarvshakti  in   Jammu and Kashmir . This   includes security forces from both sides of the Pir Panjal range . Its aim is  to eliminate the terrorists who ambushed Indian soldiers   in  Rajouri and Poonch. isOver the past few years, 7 soldiers have been martyred in ambush attacks in Kashmir and more than 20 soldiers have been martyred in attacks in the Rajouri-Poonch belt. Officials suspect that terrorists responsible for the 2023 ambush attacks on security forces in Rajouri-Poonch are hiding in these remote areas. Security forces sources indicate that most of the remaining terrorists are currently active in Jammu and Kashmir.

8 Kerala launches ‘Operation Amrit’ to tackle AMR

The Kerala Drug Control Department  has recently   launched Operation Amrit (Amrith – Antimicrobial Resistance Intervention For Total Health) to prevent excessive use of antibiotics in the state.  It aims to conduct surprise raids in pharmacies to detect over-the-counter sale of antibiotics without doctor’s prescription. AMR refers to the ability of bacteria and germs to resist drugs used to prevent or kill them. Considered a “silent pandemic,” AMR was linked to nearly 5 million deaths globally in 2019, with 1.3 million deaths directly attributable.

9 2023 Global Water Monitor report released

The 2023 Global Water Monitor report  shows that  more than 77 countries have suffered their highest average annual temperatures in the last 45 years  . Unprecedented heat is seen in all seasons,   affecting water as well as rainfall patterns . The study authors say the global water cycle last year   was influenced by an emerging El Niño phase change in tropical rainfall areas. Rising ocean temperatures due to climate change also increase cyclone strength and rainfall intensity, leading to serious human and economic costs through flooding. Despite hot and dry air, annual soil moisture levels increased by an average of 3.5% over 1998–2005 due to several potential factors such as the development of agricultural practices. But total terrestrial water storage, including snow and groundwater, still declined in January–September 2022 compared to the 2000s.

10 17 districts of Jharkhand affected by drought

The Jharkhand government  recently  declared 158 blocks in 17 districts drought-hit after below average rainfall  , affecting about  15 lakh farmers  . Barely 4 out of 24 districts of Jharkhand recorded normal monsoon rainfall in 2022 . During the crucial Kharif planting period, the state witnessed nearly 40% deficit of average rainfall. As a result, crop acreage was significantly reduced – rice planting was limited to only 17% of the target 1.6 million hectares. In the more than 20 years since Jharkhand was formed, 10 drought years have been officially declared – which now falls approximately once every three years in the state. Drought was declared in 88% of the districts in 2022 itself. Its frequency has increased alarmingly, causing immense distress in rural areas.

13 Simmtech will set up semiconductor plant in Sanand, Gujarat

South Korean  company  Simmtech  has   announced its plans to set up a manufacturing plant in  Sanand  ,  Gujarat . With an investment of Rs 1,250 crore  , Simmtech aims to contribute to building a strong semiconductor ecosystem in the state. 14 Shanghai’s NDB will give $500 million loan for Gujarat’s infrastructure development.

15 Tata Consumer buys 100% stake in Capital Foods for Rs 5,100 crore

Tata Consumer Products  has  acquired entire 100% stake   in  Capital Foods . Capital Foods is famous for marketing products under the Ching’s Secret and Smith & Jones brands. This deal has been done for ₹5,100 crore. The board of directors approved the acquisition of 100 per cent of the issued equity share capital of Capital Foods Pvt Ltd, Tata Consumer said in an exchange filing. The FMCG company said it will initially acquire 75 per cent equity shareholding, with the remaining 25 per cent to be acquired over the next three years.

16 Argentina’s inflation increases by more than 200%

According to recently released official figures  , Argentina’s annual inflation rate  exceeded  211%  in  December 2023, reaching the highest level since the early 1990s  , where the country was emerging from a period of hyperinflation and  food shortages.
