1  World famous Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath begins in Puri, Odisha

The world famous  Jagannath Rath Yatra   began in  Puri, Odisha .  According to  the Hindu calendar, every year this journey starts from the second date of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month and  continues till Dashami of Ashadh Shukla. Lord Jagannath  sits in this Rath Yatra  . He is accompanied by elder  brother Balabhadra  and  sister Subhadra  . The Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath leaves the temple of Puri and   goes to the Gundicha temple . Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra stay for nine days in this Gundicha temple. The Puri Shrimandir administration is expecting around three lakh people to participate in this Rath Mahotsav.

2 United Nations Convention for the Protection of Marine Life in the Deep Sea, 193 member countries approved without any objection

 Members of  the United Nations today  adopted the first treaty to protect marine life in the high seas . United Nations Secretary-General  Antonio Guterres  has appreciated this historic agreement. 193 member states The delegates approved the treaty without any objection. Guterres told the delegates that the treaty comes at a critical time when the oceans are facing threats on many fronts. He said that the treaty is very important to remove these threats and urged all countries to ensure that the treaty is signed as soon as possible. The sea outside national boundaries is called the open sea, where negotiations for a treaty to protect biodiversity have been ongoing for more than twenty years, but efforts to reach an agreement have repeatedly stalled. The open ocean covers about half of the Earth’s surface. The new treaty   will be presented for signature during the annual meeting of world leaders at the UN General Assembly  on  September 20 and will come into effect after 60 countries have ratified it.

3 Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope developed by IUCAA handed over to ISRO

The Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT)  developed by  the Inter-University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA),  Pune  has been handed over to  the  Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)  . This unique space telescope   will be integrated with  ISRO’s Aditya-L1 mission which  will be launched in mid- August 2023 . SUIT aims  to study the Sun’s ultraviolet (UV) emissions and capturing high-resolution images of the Sun’s atmosphere, known as the corona, at different UV wavelengths. It will operate in the far and near ultraviolet regions, covering wavelengths of 200–400 nanometers. It will observe the hotter and more dynamic regions of the Sun’s atmosphere such as the transition zone and the corona.

4 NewSpace India to enhance maritime communication with MSS terminals

NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), the  commercial arm of  the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), has  launched  a project to  improve communication with ships at sea  and  enhance surveillance of Indian waters . The company plans to  install Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) terminals   on  about one lakh motorized and fishing boats  in  13 coastal states.is to be installed. The MSS terminals will enable monitoring and control of fishing vessels at sea. The system will be powered by India’s own navigation satellite system, the Navigation in the Indian Constellation (NavIC). This ambitious initiative aims to strengthen emergency communication capabilities and tracking of assets in the maritime domain, thereby promoting safer operations along India’s coastline.

6 National Highways Authority of India launches a ‘Knowledge Sharing’ platform for development of National Highways

The National Highways Authority of India – NHAI  has launched a ‘ Knowledge Sharing ‘ platform  for  the development of National Highways . The initiative will help the authority   share experiences and knowledge with experts and citizens on topics such as road design, construction, road safety and environment . This platform will contribute towards sharing of best practices from across the globe and towards overall development of National Highway infrastructure in the country. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has said that the best suggestions received on the ‘Knowledge Sharing’ platform can be uploaded on the web portal of NHAI. According to the ministry, NHAI is rapidly developing the National Highway infrastructure with the help of innovation and modern technology.

7 Bureau of Indian Standards, BIS license will be mandatory for 24 footwear products from July 1

Bureau of Indian Standards, BIS license  will be mandatory  for  24 footwear products  from  1st of next month . Pramod Kumar Tiwari, Director General, BIS,   emphasized the importance of quality control orders issued by the government recently for footwear and other products. He said, the quality control orders for 24 footwear products falling under footwear made of leather and other materials would come into effect from July 1 this year. Shri Tiwari said that BIS license would be mandatory for manufacturing, importing or selling the products.

8 NHPC participated in the Annual Meeting of the International Commission on Large Dams at Gothenburg, Sweden

India’s largest  hydropower development organization NHPC Limited  participated   in the 91st Annual Meeting  of  the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD 2023)  held at  Gothenburg, Sweden from June 11 to 15, 2023  . The NHPC delegation presented several papers and posters on the issues being faced by hydropower developers, which were highly appreciated by the participants. The topics on which NHPC presented papers included issues relating to management and safety of dams, seepage control measures, seismic aspects and repair and rehabilitation of dams.

11 Karnataka government launched “Griha Jyoti Yojana” to provide free electricity up to 200 units to residential houses

 According to the statement issued by the Energy Department of Karnataka , the registration process has been started to take advantage of “ Griha Jyoti Yojana ” in the entire state.  A special page has been created on the Seva Sindhu government portal for registration  . Under this scheme, the Siddaramaiah government   will provide free electricity up to 200 units . Before the 2023 state assembly elections, the Congress had also included this in its election promises. 14 IndiGo orders 500 aircraft from Airbus, the biggest deal ever in aviation history!

IndiGo  has placed a record order for  500 A320 Family aircraft  with   European manufacturer  Airbus .  This is the largest single purchase agreement in the history of commercial aviation . IndiGo’s order book includes A320NEO, A321NEO and A321XLR aircraft. The airline will take delivery of these aircraft between 2030 and 2035. The agreement takes the total number of Airbus aircraft ordered by IndiGo to 1,330, making it the world’s largest A320 Family customer. Earlier this year,  Tata-  owned  Air India  placed   orders for 470 aircraft  from  Airbus  and US manufacturer  Boeing .

15 Intel and Germany sign deal for $32.8 billion chip plant investment

Intel  and  the German government  signed a deal under which  the US  company   will invest more than 30 billion euros ($32.8 billion)  in a chip manufacturing site in  the German  city  of Magdeburg  , with financial backing from  Berlin . 18 SEBI bans 6 entities from securities market for violating insider trading norms

SEBI  has  banned  6 entities   from the securities market  for violating  insider trading norms . The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has   taken action against six entities for violating insider trading norms in the case of Shilpi Cable Technologies . The entities have been barred from participating in the securities market for one year and ordered to pay a total fine of Rs 70 lakh. Additionally, SEBI has directed him to withdraw illegal gains of Rs 27.59 crore along with interest at 9 per cent per annum from May 2017 till the date of payment.

19 Central government’s decision, sale of rice and wheat stopped under OMSS

The central government  has stopped the sale of rice and wheat under  the OMSS (Open Market Sale Scheme)   to  the state governments  to check inflation  . The decision has already been communicated to the Karnataka government, which had sought 13,819 tonnes of rice at Rs 3,400 per quintal for July for its own scheme under OMSS without e-auction. According to a recent order issued by the Food Corporation of India (FCI), “the sale of wheat and rice under OMSS (Domestic) to the State Governments has been discontinued.”
