1. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj inaugurated Panini language laboratory at 11th World Hindi Sammelan in Port Louis, Mauritius

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj inaugurated the Panini language laboratory at the 11th World Hindi Conference in Port Louis, Mauritius on Sunday. On the second day of the conference, topics related to language and culture are being discussed today. Films have played an important role in the spread of Hindi. Famous Hindi lyricist and film writer and poet Joshi through the films ‘ protection of Indian culture ‘ is chairing the session on the subject. Simultaneously , intensive churning on communication media and Indian culture , migrant world language and culture and Hindi hair literature and Indian culture are being done. Representatives and scholars from 20 countries including India and Mauritius are participating in these sessions. Apart from this, a seminar was also organized on the future topic of technology. A cultural program will also be organized in the evening.

 

2. Former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan dies, President Ramnath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences –

Former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan died in Switzerland on Saturday at the age of 80. He was the United Nations General Secretary for two terms from 1997 to 2006. He was the first black civil secretary of the United Nations. Rashtrapati Ramnath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief at the passing away of Nobel Peace Prize winner and former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan.

 

3. In the 8th Asian Games, India got the first medal, shooter Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar 10m. Air rifle mixed team wins bronze medal in competition –

India won the first medal in the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia. In the final of the 10 meter Air Rifle Mixed Team Competition, the pair of Ravi Kumar and Apurvi Chandela scored their bronze medal with four hundred 29 decimal nine points. Manu Bhake and Abhishek Verma pair could not qualify for the final in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event. In the freestyle category wrestling Sandeep Tomar , Khatri and Bajrang Poonia have reached the finals , while Sushil Kumar has lost in the qualification round. In Swimming, Mr. Hari Natraj Sau Miyak Baixstroke and Sajan Prakash have secured the place in the final of the 200m butterfly contest.

 

4. Johnson’s stormy bowling, taken retirement –

Former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, which means he will no longer play in the IPL. Johnston said while announcing the retirement, “I was hoping that I can play in T20 in different countries from next year, but the fact is that I am not supporting myself in the body. This year, during the IPL, I had to face back pain problems. Johnson said that whenever I played cricket I gave my 100 percent and now when my body is not joining me, I am leaving cricket. The Australian fast bowler said that I have bowled my last over, my last ball and I have taken the last wicket.

6. Agriculture minister proposes UNFAO to declare an upcoming year as “International Year of Millets” –

The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Radha Mohan Singh has written to Mr. Jose Graziano da Silva, Director General, United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) and proposed the declaration of an upcoming year as “International Year of Millets”. The Union Agriculture Minister stated that India is celebrating 2018 as the National Year of Millets and is promoting cultivation by amending cropping pattern of areas which are especially susceptible to climate change.

 

7. Pakistan Cricketer Nasir Jamshed Banned For 10 Years For Spot-Fixing –

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has handed a 10-year ban to Nasir Jamshed on 17 August. The ban was imposed by the board’s Anti-Corruption Tribunal for his involvement in the spot-fixing row during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2016-17 season. The ban means Jamshed will be out from any form of cricket during the aforementioned period. Jamshed was banned for the second time in the last two years.

 

8. Rajasthan to observe September as ‘month of nutrition’ –

Rajasthan will observe September as the “month of nutrition” to create awareness among people living in the state, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said. The government had introduced a scheme to provide milk to students in government schools thrice a week last month. From September, the students will get milk on a daily basis for which additional funds of Rs 203 crore will be allocated, she said.

 

9. nternational Conference on Recent Advances in Food Processing Technology –

International Conference on Recent Advances in Food Processing Technology (iCRAFPT) got underway at Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, Thanjavur in Tamilnadu. The conference was inaugurated by Sh. Jagadish Prasad Meena, Secretary, MoFPI, Sh. Bijaya Kumar Behera, Economic Advisor, MoFPI and was later joined by the Guest of Honour Sh. K. Parasuraman, Member of Parliament, from Thanjavur Constituency. Dr. C. Anandharamakrishnan, Director IIFPT also presided over the inaugural session. The Secretary, MoFPI in his inaugural address highlighted that the bumper production and diversification of agriculture has brought in new challenges for everybody in view of the large scale food wastage on one hand and seasonal & regional demand & there supply issues of many commodities.

 

10. Telecom companies have made big changes since September 15, now they will get SIM cards –

Indian Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI) has announced to implement the system of face recognition in phased manner in verification of identity for telecom companies. It will start from September 15. If this is not the case, companies may have to pay a fine. Earlier this arrangement had to be implemented from July 1. The date was later extended to August 1. Due to lack of preparation for the companies, it had to be discontinued again.
