1.Bangalore signs off with a win :-

A vintage Virat Kohli, and — by his standards — a not so vintage Chris Gayle. The spectators, who took almost every seat at the Ferozeshah Kotla, enjoyed the game, the last of this season of the Indian Premier League at this venue.

The result did not matter. Both teams had lost the race for the playoffs. This was a battle for pride, if not redemption, and Royal Challengers Bangalore emerged smiling with a 10-run victory.

2.Transport strike hits commuters in T.N. :-

Trade unions of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, except the one affiliated to the ruling AIADMK, announced a bus strike across the State on Sunday after failure of talks held with the government at Pallavan House, the headquarters of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation in Chennai over pending wages and PF. Several rounds of talks have been held before this between representatives of the unions and Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabhaskar over the past few days.

3.Violence across Bengal civic polls; Congress, BJP pull out :-

The municipal elections in West Bengal were marked by violence on Sunday, with party supporters roaming around with firearms, bombs being hurled at polling booths, voters beaten up and EVMs damaged or snatched from polling personnel. Although there were no reports of death, several persons were injured in the violence.

Mediapersons too were heckled at places, allegedly by ruling Trinamool Congress activists. A joint delegation of the Congress and Left Front that went to meet State Election Commissioner A K Singh was turned away.

4.Nawaz Sharif signals for dialogue with India at BRF summit :-

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday signalled his country’s openness for a dialogue with India, and offered to accommodate “all countries” in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) — a part of the Beijing-led Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

“Let me make it very clear that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor is an economic undertaking open to all countries. It has no geographical boundaries,” Mr. Sharif said while speaking at the high-profile Belt and Road Forum (BRF) that opened in the Chinese capital on Sunday.

5.Arjun Maini is first Indian to win a GP3 race :-

Arjun Maini, driving for Jenzer Motorsports, created history by becoming the first Indian driver to win a GP3 race when he claimed the sprint race on Sunday.

The 19-year old  scored his first win in two years while finishing six seconds ahead of Frenchman Dorian Boccolacci and teammate Alessio Lorandi of Italy.

Maini, who had had a tough race in the feature race on Saturday, started from second in the reverse grid sprint race. The Indian immediately took the lead on the opening lap passing pole-sitter Raoul Hyman.

6.Naidu, Palaniswami flag off underground stretch of Chennai Metro :-

Operations on the first underground stretch of the Chennai Metro Rail commenced today.

The maximum fare has increased to ₹60 for the 17-km stretch from Nehru Park to Chennai airport. Currently, Metro fares range between ₹10 and ₹50 for the general class and ₹20 and ₹100 for the special class.

This would be the third Metro stretch to become operational since the project was launched in 2012.

The existing routes — Koyambedu to Alandur and Little Mount to Chennai airport — are elevated.

7.Pakistan shelling continues in Rajouri sector, 1,000 evacuated :-

Pakistani shelling was reported in Rajouri sector till 8 am on Sunday, and people were busy collecting their belongings from the rubble of their damaged homes to move to safer places. In Nowshera sector, the shelling had stopped since Saturday evening but the civil and police administration were battling a new problem — forest fires. There have been no report of casualties on the Indian side so far.

Defence Ministry spokesperson Lt Colonel Manish Mehta said: “Pakistani troops initiated indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars from 6.45 am along the LoC in Rajouri sector.

8.Hamilton wins Spanish Grand Prix, Vettel comes second :-

Lewis Hamilton won the Spanish Grand Prix from pole position on Sunday to cut Sebastian Vettel’s overall lead in the Formula One championship to six points with a quarter of the season completed.

The Mercedes driver’s 55th career win was hard-fought and tense, however, with Ferrari’s Vettel seizing the lead at the start and in the hunt all the way to the finish as the tyre strategies played out.

The British driver took the chequered flag 3.4 seconds clear of the German, who did all he could to beat him.

9.North Korea missile test posed no threat to Russia :-

The flight path of a ballistic missile fired by North Korea on Sunday was a considerable distance from Russian territory and posed no threat to Russia, the Russian defence ministry said.

Russia’s missile alert systems detected the launch at around 2330 (2000 GMT) on May 13 and tracked the missile for 23 minutes before it fell into the Sea of Japan around 500 kilometres (310.69 miles) off the Russian coast, a ministry statement said.

10.Emmanuel Macron takes charge as President of France :-

Emmanuel Macron was inaugurated on Sunday as France’s new President at the Elysee palace in Paris, and immediately launched into his mission to shake up French politics, world economics and the European Union.

The 39-year-old Macron is the youngest President in the country’s history and the 8th President of France’s Fifth Republic, which was created in 1958. A former Economy Minister with pro-business, pro-European views, Mr. Macron is the first French President who doesn’t originate from one of the country’s two mainstream parties.
