1.BSE inks cooperation pact with Egyptian Exchange :-

BSE joined hands with Egyptian Exchange (EGX) for cooperation in exchange of information across business areas.

The exchange aims to cross list and trade securities that would provide new investment alternatives to investors in both markets.

 

2.Dhinakaran, Divakaran close ranks; EPS hopeful of merger :-

A death in the Sasikala family on Friday brought her warring nephew-cum-AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran and her brother Divakaran closer, with the two momentarily burying the hatchet denying any difference of opinion.

After V.K. Sasikala, the AIADMK (Amma) general secretary, was convicted in the disproportionate assets case, she had handed over the reins of the party to Mr. Dhinakaran much to the chagrin of Mr. Divakaran, who enjoys the support of over a dozen MLAs from the delta region.

 

  1. Shikha Sharma reappointed Axis Bank MD and CEO :-

The board of directors of Axis Bank approved the re-appointment of Shikha Sharma as Managing Director and CEO of the bank, for a period of three years with effect from June 1, 2018 to June 2021.

 

4.Sri Lanka to sign port deal with China :-

Sri Lanka will sign a deal with China on Saturday to lease the southern Hambantota port, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said.

Sri Lanka’s Cabinet earlier this week cleared a revised agreement for the Chinese-built port after terms of the first pact sparked widespread public anger in the island nation.

 

  1. Indonesia to host AFC U-19 championship :-

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Competition Committee officially awarded Indonesia the hosting of the AFC Under-19 championship next year.

The AFC U-19 championship is scheduled to be held from October 18 to November 4 of next year.

 

  1. Arundhati Roy’s ‘The Ministry of Utmost Happiness’ in 2017 Man Booker longlist :-

Arundhati Roy’s latest work of fiction, “The Ministry of Utmost Happiness”, has made it to the longlist of this year’s Man Booker Prize.

The book came after a 19-year-long hiatus since the author’s debut novel “God of Small Things” that won the Booker Prize in 1997.

Roy has published several works of non-fiction, including ‘The Algebra of Infinite Justice’, ‘Listening to Grasshoppers’ and ‘Broken Republic’ with ‘The Ministry of Utmost Happiness’ her second work of fiction

 

7.Panamagate graft case: Nawaz Sharif barred from holding public office for life, resigns PM post :-

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from holding office for life. This was stated by Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf.

A spokesman of Prime Minister House said that Mr. Sharif resigned following the judgment despite having reservations on the verdict.

Following the judgment, the Pakistan Cabinet stands dissolved.

 

  1. Former Karnataka CM Dharam Singh passes away :-

Former Karnataka Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh died of a massive heart attack.

Singh headed the Congress-JD(S) coalition government from 2004 to 2006.

A nine-time MLA and a former Member of Parliament, he had also headed the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.

 

9.Abhinav, Kohli tighten the noose around Sri Lanka :-

A sunny Friday featuring a rain-interlude ebbed away with a rainbow in the sky.

Inside the Galle International Stadium, India’s fortunes mirrored the inter-play of nature. It featured Sri Lanka’s resistance before Virat Kohli’s men secured a 309-run first-innings lead.

When the third day of the first Test drew to a close, the visitor, powered by Kohli’s unbeaten 76 and Abhinav Mukund’s 81, scored 189 for three in the second innings and was ahead by 498 runs.
