1 Government approves eco-friendly PM-E-Bus service in 169 cities

The government   has approved the PM E-bus service  to increase the service of  e-buses in cities. Initially  ten thousand e-buses  will be run. After the Union Cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister  Anurag Singh Thakur  said that  Rs 57 thousand 613 crore  would be spent on PM-e-bus service.  Ten thousand new electric buses will be introduced in  169 cities . He said that this scheme will be applicable in cities with a population of three lakh or more. Mr. Thakur said that the PM-e-bus service will promote environment-friendly transport system.

2 The Economic Affairs Committee of the Cabinet approved the PM Vishwakarma Yojana to support traditional artisans and craftsmen in rural and urban areas.

Government has   approved a new Central Scheme – PM-Vishwakarma Yojana  to support  traditional craftsmen and artisans  with a financial outlay of  Rs 13,000 crore . The objective of the scheme is to strengthen and promote the traditional skills passed down through generations of artisans and craftsmen working with hands and tools. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the PM Vishwakarma Yojana for a period of five years. Initially  18 traditional industries  will be included under this scheme. These   include carpenters, boat makers, goldsmiths, masons, toy makers, blacksmiths and potters. under this plan Loan up to one lakh rupees  will be given at a concessional interest rate of five percent. More than 30 lakh families  will be benefited from this scheme  . Under PM Vishwakarma Yojana, craftsmen and artisans will be recognized through PM Vishwakarma certificate and identity card.

3 Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approves seven projects of Ministry of Railways at an estimated cost of about Rs 32 thousand 500 crores

 The Cabinet Committee  on Economic Affairs  approved seven projects  of  the Ministry of Railways at an estimated cost of  about  Rs 32 thousand 500 crore . The Central Government will provide 100 percent funds for these projects. The proposal for multi-tracking  will ease operations and reduce congestion while providing much-needed infrastructure development on the busiest routes of Indian Railways. In these projects  Uttar PradeshBiharTelanganaAndhra Pradesh, MaharashtraGujaratOdisha, Jharkhand  and  West Bengal consists of 35 districts.  These projects will increase the existing network of Indian Railways  by 2339 km . These projects will provide employment of 7 crore 6 lakh man-days to the people of the states. These are essential routes for movement of various commodities like food grains, fertilisers, coal, cement, fly ash, iron and finished steel, metal tailings, crude oil, limestone and edible oil. With the increase in the capacity of the works, an additional 200 million tonnes of freight will be carried every year.

4 Union Cabinet approves Cooperation Agreement in Sports between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Department of Health and Aging of Australia

The Union Cabinet has   approved the MoU on cooperation in sports between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports  and  the Department of Health and Aging  of  Australia . Contact programs in the field of sports between the two countries will help in enhancing knowledge and expertise in sports science, athlete and coach training and development and grassroots participation in sports. The benefits of mutual cooperation in the field of sports with Australia will apply equally to all sportspersons.

5 Center approves expansion of Digital India program with an outlay of Rs 14,903 crore

The Center has   approved the expansion of the Digital India program  with an outlay of  Rs 14,903 crore . After the Union Cabinet meeting, Communications and Information Technology Minister  Ashwini Vaishnav  said that the Digital India program  was launched in 2015  and has made a big difference in the lives of the poorest of the poor. He said that under the project,   existing skills of six lakh 25 thousand IT professionals would be enhanced and new skills would be taught. Shri Vaishnav said that two lakh 65 thousand people will be trained in information security under information security and education awareness programme. He said that one thousand two hundred startups will be promoted in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.

6 Union Cabinet approves signing of MoU between India and Suriname in the field of Regulation of Medical Products

The Union Cabinet  chaired by  the Prime Minister  Shri Narendra Modi  has approved the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO)  of  the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare  and  Suriname  in the area of ​​medical product regulation.  was apprised of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on June 4, 2023 between the Health Ministry of It was signed during the visit of the President of India to Suriname. The objective of this MoU is to facilitate constructive dialogue on laws and regulations relating to medical products as well as other important matters. This MoU provides for establishing a framework for fruitful cooperation and exchange of information between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and the Government of the Republic of Suriname in matters relating to the regulation of medical products consistent with their international responsibilities.

7 India’s first space mission to study the Sun Aditya L-1 ready for launch this month

Indian Space Research Organisation-ISRO  is preparing for the next launch of  Aditya L-1 satellite  this month  .  This will be India’s first space mission to study about the Sun. The satellite   will carry three instruments to study the solar atmosphere, solar magnetic storms and its impact on Earth’s environment. It will be sent to the hollow orbit at the L-1 point between the Earth and the Sun. The satellite will take about 109 earth days to reach the hollow orbit after launch and will cover a distance of more than 1.5 million kms. Aditya L-1 spacecraft   prepared at  UR Rao Satellite Center  in  Bengaluru and Satish Dhawan Space Center at Sriharikota for launch has reached. Dr. M. Sankaran, Director, UR Rao Satellite Center briefed AIR about the Aditya L-1 mission.

8 NHAI sets up Design Division to review design and construction of bridges and other structures

 For  effective review of design and construction of bridges, special structures and tunnels , NHAI  has established a  Design Division . has been set up to formulate policy and guidelines for planning, design, construction and maintenance of bridges, structures, tunnels and RE walls on National Highways across the country. The division will undertake project preparation, construction of new bridges, condition survey and rehabilitation of existing old/distressed bridges, review of the condition of vulnerable bridges, structures, tunnels and RE walls. It will independently review bridges and special structures which are at DPR stage where DPR will start after June 2023. In addition, the Division will also review the prestressing methods and construction practices of selected bridges and structures with a span of more than 200 meters on random basis, temporary structures, bridges developed and in use. 10 G-20 Digital Economy Working Group and Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting begins in Bengaluru

Alkesh Kumar Sharma,  Secretary   ,  Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology formally inaugurated the G-20 Economic Working Group meeting   in  Bengaluru . The G20 Working Group meeting and the Digital Economic Ministerial meet will continue till August 19 in Bengaluru. Various issues related to digital information, service delivery to citizens and growth in digital economy will be discussed during the deliberations under the G-20 chairmanship of India. Along with these meetings, the Digital Innovation Alliance meeting will be held on 17th and 18th August. 11 Indian Army Quiz 2023 – ‘Battle of Minds’ launched on the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas

12 A-HELP Program

Recently  Union Minister of Animal Husbandry and Dairying inaugurated the  ‘ A-HELP ‘ (Accredited Agent for Augmentation of Health and Production of Livestock) program. This program is  the initiative of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence  and  Pashudhan Jagruti Abhiyan  and  Rashtriya Gokul Mission  promoting  livestock growth . Part of the goals of Pashudhan Jagruti Abhiyan focuses on important aspects of livestock health, disease management and animal sterility. Rashtriya Gokul Mission focuses on sustained increase in bovine productivity through use of advanced technologies, high genetic merit bulls and home-based artificial insemination while promoting scientific conservation of indigenous cattle and buffaloes. Trained women agents have been empaneled for animal disease control, artificial insemination, animal tagging and livestock insurance under the ‘A-HELP’ programme. Aimed at empowering women and increasing livestock, the ‘A-HELP’ program will contribute to the socio-economic progress of rural communities.

14 Goa is the first state in the country where free IVF will be available in government hospitals.

15 CSIR-NBRI launches an exotic variety of Lotus ‘Namoh 108’

 CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute  (CSIR-NBRI)  launched an extraordinary variety of the national flower Lotus , named ‘ Namoh 108 ‘. This unique flower has an astonishing  108 petals  and was dedicated to the nation on the eve of Independence Day, underscoring its importance in the cultural and religious tapestry of India. 17 Center appointed R Duraiswamy as Managing Director of LIC

18 Govt hikes windfall profit tax on domestic crude oil, diesel exports

The government   increased  the special additional excise duty  on  crude petroleum to Rs 7,100 per tonne  . This order  will be applicable from August 15  . In the last fortnightly review, windfall tax on domestically produced crude oil was fixed at Rs 4,250 per tonne. In addition, the Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED) or duty on export of diesel will be increased from Re 1 per liter at present to Rs 5.50 per litre. At the same time, a duty of Rs 2 per liter will be imposed on jet fuel from 15 August. At present, there is no specific additional excise duty on jet fuel. The special additional excise duty on petrol will remain nil. India first imposed windfall gains tax on 1 July 2022.
