1.HDFC Bank shares extend gains; mcap tops Rs 4 lakh crore :-

HDFC Bank shares went up over 1 % on Thursday, rising for the eight consecutive day, taking its market valuation past the Rs 4 lakh crore mark.

The stock gained 1.28 % to end at Rs 1,567.25 on BSE. During the day, it went up by 1.6 % to ₹ 1,572.30 – its 52-week high.

2.Vinod Khanna dead: Fans, friends and film buffs mourn the heartthrob’s demise :-

Veteran actor and former Union minister Vinod Khanna died in Mumbai this morning at the age of 70 after battling cancer for years. He is survived by his wife Kavita Khanna, sons Rahul, Akshaye and Sakshi, and daughter Shraddha Khanna.

3.Trump says “major, major” conflict with N.Korea possible, but seeks diplomacy :-

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday a major conflict with North Korea is possible in the standoff over its nuclear and missile programs, but he would prefer a diplomatic outcome to the dispute.

“There is a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea. Absolutely,” Mr. Trump told Reuters in an Oval Office interview ahead of his 100th day in office on Saturday.

4.SC dismisses Centre’s plea against judgment for probe into encounter deaths in disturbed areas :-

The Supreme Court dismissed a curative petition filed by the Centre seeking to urgently re-consider its July 2016 verdict which ripped open the cloak of immunity and secrecy provided by the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act of 1958 (AFSPA) to security forces for deaths caused during encounters in disturbed areas.

6.Rupee retreats from 21-mth high, falls 5 paise to 64.16 :-

Snapping its three-day rise, the rupee eased from a 21-month high to end 5 paise lower at 64.16 against the US dollar on Thursday  on fresh demand for the American currency from importers.

7.Modi to meet revenue dept on May 2; black money, GST on agenda :-

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will next week hold a review meeting with the revenue department to take stock of the anti-black money drive post note ban and tax collected thereof, as also steps taken for the GST rollout.

The meeting schdeuled for May 2 has been convened with an aim to review the work of revenue department under the finance ministry, with specific focus on taxation matters and initiatives against black money, official sources said.

8.India asks Pakistan for certificate on Jadhav’s health condition :-

India has sought from Pakistan a certificate on the health condition of Kulbhushan Jadhav, sentenced to death by a military court there, the External Affairs Ministry said on Thursday.

MEA spokesperson Gopal Baglay said that the well being and state of Mr. Jadhav’s health is a “matter of great concern” to India as the former Indian Navy officer has been in Pakistan’s custody for more than a year on charges of espionage.

9.Woman force for girls on Valley streets; EC wants 75,000 troops for one seat :-

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday reviewed implementation of a Rs 80,000-crore package for Jammu and Kashmir and directed the state government to raise an all-woman India Reserve Battalion (IRB) to deal with incidents such as stone-pelting.

10.Indian cricket team yet to get match fees for 6 months :-

Members of India’s cricket team are yet to receive their match fees and the Rs 1-crore incentive promised to each for the highly successful six-month home season because of a tussle between the Committee of Administrators and the BCCI’s office-bearers, and the board’s face-off with the ICC over revenue, sources told The Indian Express.
