3. President appoints Justice Dr. Justice Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud as Chief Justice of India

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Indian Constitution , the President has appointed Dr. Justice Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud, Judge of the Supreme Court, as the Chief Justice of India with effect from November 09, 2022. Justice Chandrachud will have a relatively longer tenure of two years andwill retire on November 10, 2024 .

7. Multidimensional Poverty Index released

The Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) was recently released by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) . MPI 2022 to “ Unpacking deprivation bundles to reduce multidimensional poverty“Issued under the title. 1.2 billion people (19.1%) in 111 countries live in acute multidimensional poverty. Of these, 593 million (50%) are minors below the age of 18 years. The developing region with the highest prevalence of multidimensional poverty is Sub-Saharan Africa (about 579 million), followed by South Asia (385 million). About 45.5 million poor people do not have access to cooking fuel, housing, sanitation and nutrition. Most of them live in India and the rest are in Bangladesh and Pakistan. For the first time, this report dedicated a special section focusing on the 15-year trend of poverty in India. Over the past 15 years, the number of poor people has declined by 415 million. However, India still has the poorest population in the world and Nigeria has the second poorest population. Although poverty among children has decreased rapidly, India has the largest number of poor children. 97 million children (21.8% of Indian children) in the country are poor. About 94 million (8.1 percent) people over the age of 60 are poor. The figures for 2019-2021 showed that about 16.4 percent of the population in India is poor. Of these, 4.2 percent live in extreme poverty.

8. Ukraine war pushed 4 million children into poverty: UNICEF

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with The Auraiya Gas Power Plant has a total installed capacity of 663 MW with four gas turbines operating in combined cyclic mode.

As part of the project, it will become the largest nuclear power generation site with a total capacity of 9900 MW. French company EDF last year submitted its binding techno-commercial offer to Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) to build six European Pressurized Reactors (EPRS) at Jaitapur.
