1.RBI tightens norms on bank performance :-

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has come out with a revised prompt corrective action (PCA) framework for banks, spelling out certain thresholds, the breach of which could invite resolutions such as a merger with another bank or even shutting down of the bank.

The revised norms have set out three thresholds. The breach of the third one on capital “would identify a bank as a likely candidate for resolution through tools like amalgamation, reconstruction, winding up etc.,” the RBI said.

2.Women can retain maiden names in passports: Modi :-

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that women are free to retain their maiden names in their passports now after the marriage.

Stating that he wanted women to be at the centre of the developmental schemes, Mr. Modi said his government is working in different ways to empower them through various schemes like Mudra and Ujjwala, among others.

3.Allow anchor investors in SME IPOs’ :-

Investment bankers want the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to allow anchor investors in public issues of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) while also enhancing the upper limit for paid-up capital of such companies to allow relatively larger firms to enter the capital market while ensuring institutional investor participation in the dedicated segment.

4.Dipa, Sakshi and Mariyappan receive Padma Shri :-

Indian trailblazing gymnast Dipa Karmakar and wrestler Sakshi Malik on Thursday received the Padma Shri Award from President Pranab Mukherjee in the National Capital.

Karmakar, hailing from Agartala, missed the bronze medal by 0.150 points as American gymnast Simone Biles won her third gold medal at the Rio Olympics last year.

5.The 2002 semifinal win over SA is my finest Champions Trophy memory: Harbhajan :-

For Harbhajan Singh, it is an opportunity to “pay back” to the game by ensuring the fans fill up the stands at the Champions Trophy to be held in England. 6.Sai Praneeth, Sindhu enter last eight :-

P.V. Sindhu, B. Sai Praneeth and K. Srikanth entered the $350,000 Singapore Super Series badminton quarterfinals on Thursday.

Sindhu prevailed 19-21, 21-17, 21-8 over Indonesia’s Fitriani.

Praneeth beat China’s Qiao Bin 21-15, 21-23, 21-16, while Srikanth beat Ihasan Maulana Mustofa 18-21, 21-19, 22-20.

7.PIL questions govt. insurance firms’ investment in ITC :-

A public interest litigation (PIL) filed in the Bombay High Court has challenged the large investments made by government-owned insurance companies in cigarette maker ITC, which is the country’s largest fast moving consumer goods company in terms of market capitalisation.

8.BJP wins five out of 10 seats, Congress bags three :-

The BJP on Thursday won half of the 10 Assembly seats in bypolls across seven States and Delhi while the Congress bagged three and the Trinamool Congress and the JMM one each with all but two of the seats being retained.

The BJP retained one seat each in Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Assam winning from Bandhavgarh, Bhoranj (SC) and Dhemaji respectively.

9.Kulbhushan Jadhav death sentence: New Delhi says go slow on visas for Pak nationals :-

New Delhi is quietly moving ahead with curbs on visas for Pakistani nationals visiting India, with artists, singers and actors likely to be the first group to be singled out for maximum visibility and impact, South Block sources have told The Indian Express. This is, possibly, the first retaliatory step from India in the wake of the death sentence handed out to former navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav by a secret Pakistani military court on charges of spying. India has maintained that Jadhav is an “innocent Indian kidnapped by Pakistan”.

10.Supreme Court: Conduct NEET in Urdu also :-

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Centre and CBSE to include Urdu as a medium of instruction in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) from the academic session 2018-19.  The bench, however, accepted the submission by the authorities that it was not possible to include Urdu as a medium of instruction for the all-India medical entrance exams this session.
